Why does GAF have a collective meltdown every time a publisher like SE fails at PR? Seriously. Hashimoto's "please be excited," the FFVII HS PS4 port announcement, this horrible ATR...never have I been able to understand the angst that follows these things.
As angry as people are at Tabata for doing a poor job at answering questions and leading a process that has resulted in a lot of changes, isn't it more appropriate to be angry at the fact that Versus XIII had such a shit development cycle in the first place? He's not the one that made promise after promise for the better part of a decade, while having literally nothing of substance to show for it. This isn't a FFXII situation. Versus XIII supposedly had a Dream Team working on it, but was never prioritized because XIII and XIV had so many issues that required extra attention, and whatever other reasons. I don't think we can say for sure it ever had a fully realized team in place. The "restructuring" it went through was essentially an entirely new team coming in, a shift in focus to a new generation of consoles, and a company shift in prioritization. Big changes should have been expected. This "does Tabata hate Nomura" talk is just ridiculous.
Like, Regis was redesigned? Maybe because the Regis character evolved as the game was actually put together, as the graphics were updated to fully take advantage of new consoles, and as the efforts of a new team slowly changed things to more reflect their own ideas and perspectives? Even throughout Nomura's reign, characters changed. And who knows if Regis was ever anything more than a CGI model and a vague prototype in-game model. Again, changes should be expected.
We know more about FFXV than we know about many other games people expect to hit in 2016, I personally was never convinced it would hit in 2016 in the first place, and the big complaint recently has been overexposure, not too little information. This ATR was a joke, but the mass panic is something else. My excitement for FFXV dipped dramatically some time ago, so I understand people heading in that direction, but man...
