Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Active Time Report - CNN reporting live from disaster scene

I was literally shaking with anger during that presentation. Tears formed in my eyes and my fists were clenched. "Announce something," I shrieked at my computer. My mom knocked on my bedroom door and had to ask if I was ok. Then, they started showing me a bunch of losers drinking beer and I just turned it off. It was actually unbelievable.

Now, I'm 31 years old and this was, without a doubt, the worst presentation I've ever seen in my life. It's clear that SquareEnix is not just done with this game but done as a company. There is no recovering from something this bad. They'll talk about Final Fantasy XV at another conference, but people will ignore it after remembering what they did to poor Stella.

I loved this company and put my heart and soul into dedicating my gaming life to them. But now, I have nothing. I'm an empty shell.

lol so good

The most important lesson for the FFXV PR team should be this: DONT SHOW UP UNLESS YOU HAVE NEW STUFF TO SHOW.........

I feel you, had pretty much the same reaction. I hope people post their anger and what's Square Enix doing wrong on those official forums when they open, because I don't think Square is getting it.

ATR also felt so rushed, how they dared to do that live is beyond me

I don't get it.

They released a demo 5 months ago with Regis giving a message to Noctis at the end of it. They obviously did have a voice actor.

I'm finding it really hard to believe that they shipped the demo with that, and then in such a short time redesign an entire character and prologue. Oh, and lose the voice actor too. It doesn't add up.

That's modern Square Enix for you. I don't know why they keep changing the story. It should have been nailed down before they restarted development.

Can someone sum up what is going on?
I'm eating BBQ chicken right now.

People are mad that FFXV has been changed from Versus XIII, and some think the game is now going to be bad mainly cause the director made Type-0 and they think Type-0 is a shitty game. Therefore FFXV will be shit.

Nomura once mentioned he was going to have FFXV as a musical. I'd rather have that damn it than this sad excuse of marketing cause "please be excited" just translates to me as "please fucking wait forever".

Ugh :/

Seems he's updated on that: https://twitter.com/voleur5

TBT: DAWN trailer + gameplay footage to show development progress and XV's various areas.

Rin@ATR
So not just standalone DAWN trailer. There'll be more footage, everyone! #FF15

Regardless, that's a bad trailer and they shouldn't be parading it around.

When they were rambling about how it's to get everyone up to speed or on the same level, i was really puzzled, because the trailer doesn't show anything and doesn't clear up anything regarding the story nor the premise.

It's a random girl being tossed around, a dog and an old man with a kid crying, that's it, it doesn't do anything.

The past trailer for JumpFesta was much better at laying down some basic framework for what the story was going to be.

This one was just nonsense, unless you already know who these characters are.

I want to hear Tabata's reaction to the meltdowns. It won't happen but he needs to understand that this was going to happen and it was probably never a smart idea to change a story and characters that people have become attached to since they had nothing else to attach themselves to.

Although I'm curious to see how much of the story Nomura left complete and revised for Tabata to use.

Well, they did know. They adressed it at the beginning of the ATR.

Kagari's team at GC asked Tabata if they'll announce a date at Gamescom before they even started broadcasting the ATR stream. Probably got asked by other media at GC as well; them addressing it doesn't indicate they knew about it when they made the date plans for the release date reveal.

Then they're more naive than I thought.

Report: Final Fantasy XV Release Date Confirmed for 2016

" I think we'll be able to tell you when we're making the announcement around PAX Prime, at the end of this month."

Wait... Is he saying they'll just tell us when they're announcing the release date at Pax Prime, and not the release date itself? An announcement for the announcement of an announcement?

I think there should be a comma between "tell you" and "when":

"we'll be able to tell you, when we're making the announcement around PAX Prime"

EDIT: Or maybe not >_< The statement sounds redundant with a comma.

Perhaps between when and we're makes more sense?

"we'll be able to tell you when, we're making the announcement around PAX Prime"

I think I'm clutching at straws here.

Tabata could have meant that DLC = patch, but that ATR was a PR disaster in all the ways it was worded.

If he just said "We have a prototype airship already working, but we're still researching different implementations." all would be fine and dandy.

Really all he has to say. Tabata keeps shitting his own game without knowing it.

I feel this.

There's no way that this is actually a thing. It has got to be some mistranslation or... something. I mean this would be so terrible that it would make Ubisoft blush. No developer or director in their right minds would consider making a staple (well, what used to be a staple) in these games as DLC. It doesn't even make any sense. If the game world is so big that there needs to be an airship, surely gaining one would come naturally just as it did in past titles.

If they were to truly make this DLC, even free, it'd be one of the most offensively stupid things this side of My Hands and would piss off approximately everyone. Surely anyone with a working brain would know this and not even consider it. I just refuse to believe that something this stupid could ever happen.

What does airship DLC even mean?

"Oh i finished the game going around in the car, but now i'll play it again zipping around in an airship!"

I haven't played many FF games, but usually the airship was unlocked at a specific point, to allow you to reach previously unreachable places.

Paid airship DLC does seem crazy. I could imagine it as a "patch" though. Or even as part of a Wrpg-type expansion pack. Like: you've finished the game, now, in episode whatever, travel to the mysterious island kingdom of whatever in your customizable airship. Which, bonus, also works for travel in the main map, and may even allow players to find a few secret areas blah blah.

The marketing team clearly fucked up, they thought it was ok to tease the game a little more as the start of the marketing campagin, which is really stupid, because when you start the marketing campaign you start with something big (a new bombastic trailer or a release date), not another giant tease. Everything would've been different if they just put a simple 2016 at the end of that trailer.

I hope they'll address the fans negative reactions during the PAX Prime's ATR.

I went back to the ATR and they said that they have prototyped and can implement an airship that flies (at least) at an altitude of a bird, or eyeline of Ramuh.

So this high.

But he'd like something that flies even higher, and they're looking into that possibility, and it could be done later on if it's not possible on release. "It's a when, not if question".
There's a good chance it makes in, but can't promise it until later point of development since they have other priorities.

Also Tabata didn't say DLC exactly, that was translator's wording. I assume he really meant a patch that improves existing airship functionality.

You could also gather from this that they have a tight release schedule without the luxury of postponing it for more stuff. Make of it what you will.

The constant dying during battle is worrisome. They should ramp down the difficulty somewhat. It's quite telling that the last thing you see in new gameplay footage is Noctis dying. :|

You realize no matter how easy the game was he would have died within 3 seconds too, right?

I haven't been able to watch the streams and keep up, but are the prime complaints that the game seems to have changed from the stuff they showed 8 years ago under a different name? And a mistranslation about DLC? I'm kind of confused here.

I am slightly concerned about the state of FFXV. At one hand we have the great Duscae demo on the other I fear that it will be the most fleshed out region in the full game thanks to the fact they want to release the game no matter what as soon as possible. I wouldn't mind if there wasn't any airship or dozens of regions, if they will be as good as Duscae then I could live with 8-10 of these plus 2-3 semi-large cities, no need to bloat the game. I would rather have them focus on quality.
