Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Active Time Report - CNN reporting live from disaster scene

Probably the engine cost and before the reboot work have become a sunk cost/write off cost now.

Yeah, that all adds up to a giant pile of money. Versus is no more but money that went into that is still a part of this project.

I think significant amounts of DLC are more likely than a full blown sequel, if the development tools are that stunted.

That's possible but if the game is finished they can reuse assets and it wont take as much time and money to make. But if it means having to touch Luminous again then I can see DLC being more possible.

They don't seem too happy with it.

The game is designed without the airship in mind. We don't need an airship if it's going to be just a cool gimmick.

After the demo I've lost all excitement for FF15. I'm sure I'll still buy it, but they hype train has completely died for me. I'll check back when reviews finally drop.

Honestly, we really don't need an airship we have the car and if that's not enough we can always do fast travel.

Tabata should make it easier on himself and just leave it out and add fast travel.

Yeah. The car is central to the gameplay experience. Clearly, the airship is just an afterthought. It doesn't need to be in the game if it's that expensive to put it in.

I dunno, might be just the fans' expectations that are making him say this. They probably want it in regardless of how useful the airship would be.

Feels weird reading "The car is central to the game experience" about a Final Fantasy game. Just me?

Eh, it's just a fast form of travel. You could walk across the world map in classic FFs since it was scaled. I think the car in this game is basically the substitute for travelling at the same speed as you would in a scaled world map.

It's a pretty elegant way to handle it, IMO.

King Regis redesign did it for me, this is no longer a "fantasy based on reality", that king is full blown fantasy. I loved the yakuza look of king Regis and the others before the redesign, and his relationship with Noctis looked a lot more interesting than what we were shown in the Dawn trailer.

This isn't the game Nomura wanted to make, it's something else entirely.

I got over the redesign but this is the part that worries me. I hope they didn't remove that dynamic as well.

Hopefully the scene of them eating together is still in.

I think the current relationship he has with Noctis is infinitely more interesting. He basically knows his son is doomed but he's having to hide all of that pent up emotion for 15 years. Heck, he might be the one who doomed Noctis and offered him up as the chosen one. The old Regis was definitely more suave, but what else was going for him?

Obviously, the old prologue could have had old Regis be interesting as well, but saying that the relationship between him and Noctis based on E3 2013 and the Duscae ending was more interesting is a bit of a stretch. It was actually very barebones and we knew very little.

But I like "full blown fantasy". FF Tactics was full blown fantasy. FFIX was full blown fantasy. I wish Noctis and others' design was more full blown fantasy.

My favorite FF "look" remains VII, and I love the melancholy of X as well, but Yakuza or full-blown fantasy, both styles for XV look good to me.

pretty much how I feel.

I am excited to see what they ruin next.

Seems like an impossible amount of work to be done if they're serious about releasing in 2016.

If the pimp my ride feature is still in and we can drive on the highways, tokyo street racer mini-game. But yeah, they better have a bunch of guys creating side quest.

Updated the world map. Game is still going to be huge even if they end up cutting out half the map...

Does anyone have the image of the map that overlays Duscae from the demo to the world map?

Yea, the Regis redesign for "w/e" really made me check-out of this. I'm still likely going to get it day 1, but it's pretty clear that Tabata is not trying to be "faithful to Nomura's story" or whatever lip service he gave last year.

Apart from Type 0 which had Airship combat, most FF airships have just been flashy fast travel.

I'll never forget my first Airship unlock in FF VII, VIII, and IX. "Cool! I can now travel to X or Y anytime I whis. Oh, perhaps I'll check that small island at the edge of the map too!
Perhaps, they're just flashy fast travel, but airship is such an important part of Final Fantasy series.

I'm not sure I agree with this. I'm willing to admit a large part of it is probably because when I was 11 years old and given the reins to the Highwind my mind exploded, but there's a timeless good feeling to be had for me from piloting those airships across the world maps manually.

Fast travel ain't got nothin' on dat.

My favorite airships are from the SNES actually (and Type-0 for the combat, I guess).

I always liked to see their tech with the 2D world map. =X

But airships are more than just flashy fast travel, they are actually a method of transport that allows you to reach places you couldn't before.

Most FF games have something that you can only get to via airship, so they are designed with them in mind (to a certain extent, of course).

I wonder if this concept is still in the game. I kinda expected him to be the main villain of Versus/XV

This is my last bit of hope for XV. If this is gone too, I officially have nothing to look forward to in this game.

Yeah. Regis & Noctis is obviously still very important and I'm looking forward to seeing how that whole story plays out.

There seemed to be a bit of an Abraham & Isaac aesthetic going on in the trailer.

Heavensward.

Agreed. I played FFXIV since 1.0's release, and I always loved A Realm Reborn, but Heavensward pushed it to where it's kept me around for more than just story. I nearly was moved to tears when I went to
Matoya's Cave. ;_;
So much love for the series in that game.

Yeah, I didn't mean to insinuate the experience(or implementation) was the same, just from a functional standpoint. If FFXV is only a year out, and airships are still not locked in, they can't really design much specifically around it, but I don't think they need to.
Because as you point out, the feeling they give can be enjoyable enough.

Though I wonder if Tabata would add them in if they're purely just for transportation. Reason being, he was adamant that the reason they couldn't do swimming was because of combat. Honestly, for me, I just want swimming for exploration.(same with the airship)
