Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Active Time Report - CNN reporting live from disaster scene

I still don't get why Tabata said this in initial interviews. He was revealed to be co-directing FFXV when it was revealed in 2013, but I don't think he became the actual director until 2014.
Because Nomura was still working on it at 2013. Things changed behind scene after TGS 2013 where Nomura was removed.

What's portrayed to the public and what's actually going on inside the company are most likely and very often two different situations.

I think they just wanted to break the news about Nomura being off the project gradually.

If so, they did a pretty awful job of it considering they let Nomura introduce himself as the director at E3 with him insisting that FFXV was the same game as Versus XIII.

I also thought Nomura confirmed in an interview that he started working on FFVIIr shortly after leaving FFXV, and I don't think he started working on it until 2014.

It was before PSX, my guess would be either march or may.

What we know is

-when versus was re-revelad as FFXV at E3 2013, Nomura was still the main director
-at re-reveal, a lot of versus ideas were still in the game (the original story with playing Insomnia invasion, Stella, etc.) There were some character design changes like Stella.
-Nomura was still the director at least until TGS 2013
-They revealed Nomura was removed at TGS 2014.
-Nomura has said the reason for his removal was company's decision

I was just playing Episode Duscae again and made a couple of mildly interesting observations, maybe they're old but anyway.

All the cars have registration plates right?
They seem to mark the region where they are registered to. So we already know Insomnia, Duscae and Lestallum, but also Cleigne and Leide seem to be regions or cities like them. Cindy's tow truck is marked "Leide".

Cleigne plates also appeared in the new "Dawn" trailer.

Kr5Icxj.jpg

Then the airships patrolling in Duscae are marked SAF, which is most probably Solheim Air Force.

Solheim seems to be an imperial province like Tenebrae, a former independent country that had a crystal before Niflheim invaded them. It was mentioned just once in the 2013 trailer.

Damn, ur observations are really great. I wonder if we will get to see the the individuality of each provinces culture or if Niflheim already imposed itself such that you cant find traces of each provinces culture.

I was actually thinking about this while playing Duscae today.

It's worth reasoning that any place marked on a license plate would be a town or settlement.(or at least has a town or settlement in it)

There are other places that sound like names for regions. Cauthess is mentioned in the demo and there are signs in Lestallum advertising fish from a place called Caem.

There are loads of locations named, some may just be wild regions like Duscae and Lucil, but I think it's safe to say there is a ton more to see.

Yeah I'm interested to see what kind of places Solheim, Tenebrae and Niflheim are, as we haven't seen any of them yet.

"Solheim" would mean "home of the sun" literally and their emblem is some kind of flaming sword, so maybe it's a hot place, lol.

It's on both the airship and the robots that jump after you.

zv2iU00.jpg

Then according to the names Niflheim could be misty (or otherwise very bleak), and Tenebrae dark.

Niflheim ("Mist Home", the "Abode of Mist" or "Mist World")
Tenebrae (Latin for "shadows" or "darkness")

Niflheim ("Mist Home", the "Abode of Mist" or "Mist World")
Tenebrae (Latin for "shadows" or "darkness")

Niflheim has the same name origin as Nibelheim.

Though, I'm not sure how true to the name the locations' "geographical attributes" will be reflected. A part of me think that sometimes names like these are chosen just because they sound cool. But who knows, maybe we will get a misty region. I don't think Lucis reflect it's name sake, though. Lucis, for "Light" is just a city. City of lights? Maybe, but every city is a "city of lights". I personally think it's named so because of the theme of light in the FF series. Noctis's family and his ancestral warriors might be considered FFXV's take on "Warriors of Light".

What about Lestallum? Anybody know what that means? Both Accordo(to agree with; harmonize) and Altissia(the highest) have no real ties to their location. It's not like the country was called Aquataria.

I was actually thinking about this while playing Duscae today.

A lot of the signs inspire curiosity. I recall discovering that Exineris(to which there are flyers advertising positions for "female miners" is located at Lestallum(one of the occasions we see footage of the town, one of the buildings clearly has the Exineris sign outside). My theory is the Lestallum, while being a Havana-like place, also acts as the hub to a mining operation. That lift seen above the city might take miners to an area outside of town where the mines are located. It also would explain the connection with Titan(Earth-elemental), which they said Lestallum had, as well as the thermo-pipes seen coiling around the buildings, originating from the ground(probably heat vents from deep within the earth).

Also, i wonder about the Auralith Labs.

Jesus that's a lot of locations we barely know anything about!

I'm wondering know if any of the crystals that used to exist have any elemental properties. The crystal Solheim may have had for example could be related to fire. However if that was the case it would be likely that there were only 4 crystals to start with which seems unlikely in this world with evidence suggesting there are more than just 4 major kingdoms. Looking at it now it actually seems like there might only be 4 after all.

What if Altissia has the highest altitude? :b

Considering some of the locations on that map model, it doesn't seem to be the highest. By a stretch, you could say it's only the highest because it is suspended above sea level.

Also, considering we can visually see both Insomnia and Altissia on the map, either they didn't include the other cities, or those are the two largest cities in FFXV's world, and every other kingdom will pale in comparison. That means, don't expect Solheim, Tenebrae and Niflheim to be as massive and impressive as those two.

4 crystals? That fits with earlier Final Fantasies right? I remember there being a Fire Crystal in FFV (because that's where you get Cid near the fire ship? Memories) and Solheim seems a good place for that.

Yeah, four is the usual number as they'll stand for the elements. Off the top of my head, that was a big thing in FFIX. I'm sure it's in a few of the others too though. I believe it's a reference to either FF1, FF2, or both.

Final Fantasy I had four: Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water

Final Fantasy III had the same four plus 4 unnamed Dark Crystals that only appeared at the end in the World of Darkness.

Final Fantasy IV had four in the main overworld, 4 more in the underworld, and I believe several on the Moon.

Final Fantasy V had four based on the same elements as FF1.

Final Fantasy IX had one crystal that was split up into four fragments.

FFIX's was more a nod. I don't think the four pieces were that well represented of the "four crystals" of classic FFs, though all the stones used to learn summoning techniques always seemed more like "gemstones" than traditional FF crystals. In that game, the four elemental mirrors were more true nods to the four elemental crystals(even found in "Shrines" where FFIX's equivalents of the "Fiends" were encountered).

Would be interesting if XV has elemental crystals, though I doubt that's the case. If we give an element to four kingdoms, Accordo would be Water, Solheim would be Fire, who would be Wind and Earth? Lestallum is the closest location tied to Earth... so.... Lucis? Tenebrae would be Wind?

In the world of XV, isn't all the crystals destroyed/gone except for the one in Lucis. The remaining crystal being the reason why Lucis is modernistic and why Nifelhiem wants to take control of it since they're culturally behind.

Lucis could have a dark crystal like in FFIV.

The DKS3713 trailer is still my favorite. Simply amazing trailer.

There is Nothing either Good or Bad, But thinking makes it so.

Without any words noctis in that trailer had a mood of dgaf/super badass and I loved it.

I at least wanted a battle system where we switched swords manually and used them individually. I liked the design of the gear swords.

Not the ones we had in duscae.

The opening scene of the 2011 trailer is still my favorite piece of XV footage. Seeing that landscape shot with the royal building in the distance with airships hovering around it and Noctis acting casual about it is still amazing.

The main sword that Noctis has used since the first Versus trailer is still there, right? at least I assume it'll still be in the game because the Play Arts Kai of Noctis will come with that sword
That sword looks awesome.

“The stable master at the post is a bit cranky person, but he loves chocobo very much. He’s trying to gather people who love chocobo, and offering his place for chocobo enthusiasts. He place Gysahl Greens in his shop.” (Matsuzawa-san)

“Chocobos on FFXV are very fast. They can run vast area so quickly. They cannot fly but can jump quite high. In FFXV, you may use chocobo where the car cannot go through.” (Tabata-san)

The city in this image is designed based on Venice, and “is the most important place in the game.” (Matsuzawa-san)
“FFXV has its unique feature in cities. We design cities based on the real cities. Still, it’s Final Fantasy. There are places completely built up on imagination.” (Tabata-san)

The upper part of the image above shows a facility. It is designed based on shark called Hammerhead. “It is a mechanic facility. The owner is familiar to FF fans. The character hasn’t been introduced in FFXV. Please look forward to it.” (Tabata-san)
When looking closer, you see Cindy at the center, and there’s a guy in right side.

The bottom part of the image above shows the city called Lestallum, based on Cuba. “You may feel life goes on there and people living in there.” (Kamikokuryo-san)
The building behind the city is the key. “There’s a huge crater below the building, and at the end of it there lies meteor. The meteor crashed onto the ground forever ago, yet it’s still been burning. The prosperity of Lestallum is brought by the energy derived from meteor.” (Tabata-san)

The image above is drawn to show fields you see while on journey and the squad in there.
“The huge stone arch made the landscape outstanding.” (Kamikokuryo-san)
“We drew it to make you feel the power of the land.” (Matsuzawa-san)
“We especially do our best for meals(diet?)! You can eat various delicious foods in various spots. I myself ate sausage yesterday, and I want to eat white asparagus today. You could enjoy like this in the game.” (Tabata-san)

The image visual for Regis’s beloved car. “You could feel the dignity of Lucis. Still, there’s something FF-esque, right?” (Kamikokuryo-san)
“It would cost bazillion dollars if we were to manufacture in the reality. The designed is based on German and UK cars.” (Tabata-san)
FYI, Tabata-san drives German car.

Leviathan, one of the summons, “is very close to God. She’s highly intellectual, and Tabata-san ordered me to design her to make players feel her elegance.” (Matsuzawa-san)
The scene Leviathan appears is one of the highlighted scene in FFXV. “Summons in FFXV are deeply connected to the story.” (Tabata-san)

The image above was drawn as Genesis based on mythology in FFXV world. “A famous painter in FFXV world drew this several hundred years ago.” (Kamikokuryo-san)
“The old man in the right is Ramuh. Summons in Genesis, that means summons played a very important role in creating the world.” (Tabata-san)
There should be other summons…?

Fall of Insomnia is drawn in the above image. Luna can be seen. “Luna has escaped from the fallen crown city. She has a strong heart, and she never give up even in her predicament.” (Kamikokuryo-san)
Speaking of Luna and Noct, “the bond between them can be seen in the story. We’ll write it with respect; however, it’s not going to be like general love story.” (Tabata-san)

“Noct’s story begins from this moment. Plus, bond between the father and the son is shown, which is very important theme in the game. To Noct, this car is the symbol of his father.” (Matsuzawa-san)
This image means a lot to developers as well, “reminded and helped us to have strong will that we’re going to build the game that provide users what humans have for their values.” (Kamikokuryo-san)
!!Sorry, Kamikokuryo-san’s Japanese is kinda philosophical and very difficult for me to understand…:3 I can grasp the meaning but can’t translate it into English well enough. Anyway, we can expect to see “human” human in the game :3 …Right?

PAGE TWO

—How’s level up system?
Since Final Fantasy is RPG, characters get exp by fighting enemies and get stronger. Besides, one of the important elements is buddies. Cross Link also gets enhanced as their bond gets stronger, and you can render various attacks. (Tabata-san)

—Matsuzawa-san, what’s different between FFXV and other titles you have involved?
You can feel humanity in FFXV. You can feel that characters are actually alive. I’ve never felt like this before. (Matsuzawa-san)

—Can you tell when the game is wrapped up?
As a director, I know it should be released as soon as possible. Schedule for releasing information has decided and I cannot tell right now, but definitely before 2017. Soon we will inform you when we release the release date. (Tabata-san)

—I (Famitsu) especially like music with male chorus. Do you focus on chorus music or piano music?
It depends on situation. As you can feel in Episode Duscae, I’ve composed variety of music with chorus, guitar, etc. I’ll write music that suits with the situation. Please looking forward to it. (Simomura-san)

—Can we see Noct expands his swords in the air and fight against troops like we saw in FF Versus XIII?
The exact scene has canceled but you can see it in game system. (Matsuzawa-san)
!!I’m not sure. We may not be able to see the movie but we can render the similar attacks, I guess.

—Can we meet Tonberry and Cactuar?
Malboro, yes. Tonberry and Cactuar, not so far. Malboro will do, it has to. (Tabata-san)

—Will there be opening music by main characters like we see in FFX-2?
You want it? [Yay from the audience] I’ll bring this back home and research how much needs there is. Haha. (Tabata-san)

—It would be nice if “day” is 5 to 10 minutes longer than “night.”
We haven’t decided yet, but we’ll tune it. (Tabata-san) [Audience told Tabata-san that longer day is better.]

—Can we listen to music that was introduced in the longer trailer [includes gameplay]?
Yes. Released music so far will be included in the final game; however, if Tabata-san says no, then it won’t be. I’d appreciate it if all of them will be in the game. (Simomura-san)
I will use every music. I will. I said it twice. Haha. (Tabata-san)

—Auto save? Or we can save anytime we want?
Both. You can save multiple data as well. You can keep save data that you don’t want to delete. (Tabata-san)

—Could it be possible that, after the game is released, feedback of users’ voice be done?
We don’t have a plan for that but we’ll stay close to users. (Tabata-san)

—Can we listen to music with the radio in their car?
I hope I could since I love listening to music while I’m driving. (Simomura-san)
Music from FF could be possible since Square Enix has copy right, but other music would require some meetings. I’ll bring this back home. Haha. (Tabata-san)

—Can we see childhood days of Noct and his friends?
Usually, the story begins after the main character has grown up, but in FFXV, we’d like to write childhood stories to make the whole story deeper, and make users feel human emotions. Episodes of childhood days are put in the game in various ways, and we may show some like the trailer at this GC. (Tabata-san)

—Do you use FF-esque sound for FFXV as well?
I don’t usually keep in mind to use the former music, but I’d like to compose music that suits with FFXV world and its situation. Still, there’s famous main theme of FF and the like, and I’ve already been ordered to compose arrange music from Tabata-san, and I’ll do my best not to let you down. (Simomura-san)
We’d like to listen to FF main theme arranged by Simomura-san, right? (Tabata-san) [Yay from the audience]
I’ve got a souvenir. The huge pressure. Haha… (Simomura-san)

—It seems AI still has some problems.
I, too, feel that way. Still, it’s hard to improve AI technology since it has unique aspect compared to other technologies. Make AI smart is very difficult. AI sees the world, understands the situation, and decides what to do. We do it like we breathe, but programming it would take time. We’ll brush up it until the very deadline and provide sophisticated AI so that users won’t get irritated. (Tabata-san)

All of Noctis' swords are engine/car themed. That hasn't changed.

Well i guess i mean the swords and play style of the e3 2013 trailer.

IMO I thought the swords from duscae with all the different colors didn't feel right with the setting of the world. I guess it's there to differentiate.

So I am assuming that this "we will announce the release date announcement soon" business is to give them a high degree of confidence that they can hit it. I am curious what the determining factor is; perhaps a specific technical issue resolved, or an asset milestone?

The exact scene has canceled but you can see it in game system. (Matsuzawa-san)
!!I’m not sure. We may not be able to see the movie but we can render the similar attacks, I guess.

No aerial combat?

is this like black-haired-girl has an internal nickname = black haired girl has no name?

Wow, I was going to ask why hasn't a new thread been created for this...

And then I read it lol.

Still, thanks to Jirokichi for going through the trouble of translating it.

I don't like that most all responses has them thinking about adding a simple addition that a interviewer suggested.

"Will the game be fun?"

- "If there is a big enough audience we'll think about it. I'll surely bring this back home. Haha." (Tabata-san)

Eh, it struck me as a very Japanese way to answer the question, TBH.

I guess the Noctis flashback/childhood scenes are something that's been carried over. I guess it's expanded to a few other characters, too.

Surely, the voice acting will be at its worst there.

EDIT: I don't think these are interviews. There are literally answers from the QA sessions...

Who the fuck are these people in the audience?! No, Tabata, don't listen to them. They have BAD IDEAS!!!!

Other than that, I was right about Lestallum harnessing thermo-energy.

I thought the question was supposed to be read sarcastically, to criticize the ridiculousness of X-2's girl band singing J-pop and XV's cast looking like a boyband.

FFXVI have better be more inspired from this:
