Why the hell am I warping all over the place? How can I conjure up weapons out of thin air? How can I drive a flying car? Why do animals disappear after I kill them?

Hint: It is just a game. Stop trying to make sense of everything.
Shit guys wrap it up, it's a game and therefore must be dumb as fuck.
World building and story telling can't be done, not in a game.

The absurd amount of invisible walls and the lazy way they put fences/rocks/whatever just to prevent you to go where you want to go is the most annoying thing about this game.

If you're going to play the open world card at least do it right, especially in a game that revolves around a guy being able to fucking teleport. There, it sometimes feels like they came up with a new concept of "corridor open world"
Chocobos are more frustrating than anything since they get stopped by the tiniest tree or bush in your way, and there are plenty of those.

Also on multiple occasions the map and minimap are not clear at all. Good luck finding the only entrance of this gigantic area! Is it that way for 2 minutes? nope, wrong way but it looked quite possible though right? haha! Time to backtrack for two other minutes and then take another wrong long way!

Yeah, the open world adds nothing worthwhile to this game. FFXV would have been better with tighter game structure.

Oh please, stop trying to excuse the shitstain that is the game's delivery of narrative and direction.

Yeah, I'll remember that gem next time a game lacks coherence.

"Bu-bu-but it's just a game guys? Why do you even care? If you're looking for well thought out world-building and narrative delivery why aren't you just reading a book you poser?"

This is why I'm surprised hearing so much praise for the open world part. It was annoying in MGSV too.

I dunno, I'll rather have an open world with invisible walls that the shit corridor mess that was XIII.

I hope they improve the open world but I hope even more than they don't go to lineal design again for XVI.

Exact complaint I had last page. The hampering of you moving up a rock that should clearly be within your ability to climb up is just frustrating, especially when it seems like you should be able to do it to get to an objective or waypoint. Shades of MGSV and the unclimbable walls all over again.
is it really that big of a deal?
Yes, the entire existence of Jarred and Talcott is a big deal because they're terribly implemented.

I wish I could just click my fingers and dinner appears, that is one awesome ability Ignis has. My wife would be happy if I could perfect that lol

Anyone got tips for defeating Red Giants? I'm near their level (I'm 38 and they are 40+) but they still don't seem to take that much damage, even from my Quintcast spells.

a lot og these complaints seem like nitpicks.

yes you aren't able to just climb over everything. The devs obviously want you to still play within the boundaries they set. A lot of open world games have these weird boundaries for this very reason.

sometimes you need to just accept things and keep it moving. A lot of you seem to be actively seeking for things to trigger you IMO.

Why the hell is a child telling me where to find the supplies I need to fix a vehicle.

Stop Tabata, just stop.

Minor spoilers
because obviously he's one of those "grown up" children. Like the first quest you get from him has his grandpa note that.

The narrative explains it just fine. What more do you need?

I definitely see what people were saying when they said 2nd half of the game is very different. I'm up to chapter 12 now with 28 hours in. Can't get over how bad some of these later chapters are. 9 is by far the worst followed by 10. Still overall enjoying the game however.

Made it to chapter 5, 16 hours in.

I don't like the story at all. Mostly because there isn't one. I'm extremely disappointed.

That said, walking around and exploring is fun. The game is gorgeous. HDR is a game changer. I just wish it didn't feel so dead and empty.

How come the car never has bird poo on it! The second I clean my car in real world a bird poos on it! Come on square sort your shit out.

I'm going back to XIII

Just finished kingsglaive. It is definitely a must watch for the game (I can't believe Tabata san stated that you didn't need to see the movie). Nyx is the real MVP.

Now I am super hyped to continue playing FFXV.

Ah, yes. That's such an excellent explanation of his character.

Lmao, okay whatever. I get it. Some of you inexplicably think the narrative in this game works. Whatever floats your boat.

I don't think anyone has said this.

they just don't think what your freaking out over is that big of a deal..

It's literally a side quest character. Unless you are taking of Talcoot or whatever his name is and not the boy from the food stand.

This is all true but it seems unbalanced to call these people out without also addressing the other side of the coin. There are people who gush over it just because its a FF game, or they built a 'rep' around being a die hard fan. I mean earlier in the thread someone commented on almost crying at the beauty of a town. I mean fuck me, thats just as OTT to me.

Uh you do get more.
The boys frequently comment on how he is resourceful for such a young age and how it came to be.

Just because you don't like it doesnt mean it's bad. The trope of "grown up" kids who know more than even adults is pretty common and I see now issue with it. They don't need to explain that sort of stuff with elaborate back story over how he attained expertise in that field so quickly or went to university while he was a child and such.

He also shows up later in the story for a bit and you realise how his nature of getting involved in serious matter without really understanding the gravity of it leads to a tragedy. That's a lot already for a minor NPC.

Yeah Kingsglaive is a must watch and its part of the FFXV story whether you like it or not. So if you can't be bothered to watch it then complain that the games story sucks well, lol.

Anyway though, got to chapter 6 today and I'm absolutely loving the game, going to slow down for a bit and try to do some sidequests and savor as much of it as I can because honestly this is probably one of my all time favorite games and it connects with me in such a special way. I don't want this journey to come to an end and from what I hear its going to continue to get better.

C'mon Tabata, make a couple spin off FFXV games, this world deserves it.

Ah, yes. That's such an excellent explanation of his character.

The narrative is fine. Sorry not everyone on GAF is uber cynical and actually likes to enjoy things without criticizing them to hell and back.

yeah that is a bit strange but I can gaurantee that person didn't constantly harp on it either.

these things aren't the same to me. the constant negativity is draining. Constant positivity is not (and its rare as fuck nowadays). Also many of the same people "gushing" over the game even admit that some things are poorly done or outright bad...they just don't act like its the end of the world about it.

This idea that anyone that isn't freaking out is an apologist shill fanboy needs to stop. There are levels to this shit.

but personally I'd take someone being so hype that they are crying over a goddamn town over someone who is not having a good time everyday.

the internet needs more people enjoying shit

Man combat in this game is a total mess.
Camera is one of the most unrealible I've ever come across. Responsiveness with most weapons is dodgy. Dodging seems like a gamble a lot of the time, especially against large groups which the game loves to throw at you. WHY ARE RUN AND ATTACK ON THE SAME BUTTONS? Why can't I toggle lock on? Certain strings on weapons seem to active arbitrarily, and yes, I've watched the combat videos on YouTube. Why the fug don't enemy types stay analyzed between fights?

I mean...I'm having some degrees of fun with it but I feel like I'm stumbling my way through the game. 24hrs into Ch3 and I only feel marginally better at combat.

I've been talking about Talcott and Jarred this evening.

I don't care about the side quest characters, they're all unimpressive tropes, evident from the first time you realize that the
black man is just the ex-criminal stereotype and the mechanic is a pair of walking tits for you and the boys to spunk over.
Uh you do get more.

If a block seems like it should be red, but the story says "it's green," that's an explanation. That doesn't mean it's a sensible or well thought out explanation.

The same goes for Talcott and many of the other characters. Just because the characters themselves or those around them declare "so and so is X" doesn't make it actually work in the narrative. Talcott's role in delivering key instructions to you is as undeserved as the
emotional reaction to Jarred's death.
They're both awkwardly placed characters.

I'd prefer if you just let people share their honest opinions without jumping to insult them when if you disagree. Some people don't like parts of the game, get over it.

you can run by holding down the L3 button, no?

I am fine w/ people not liking things. Just not so when people are unreasonable about them.

Yeah Kingsglaive is a must watch and its part of the FFXV story whether you like it or not. So if you can't be bothered to watch it then complain that the games story sucks well, lol.

The actual way the early kingsglaive cutscene is stitched in out of nowhere makes it feel disconnected to the very game when it was meant to be an important event that happened--this creates an immediate detachment from the user since it was all off screen. Not to mention the entire crew of characters have no build up as the game starts so quickly so it's already hard to really get a feel for them.

It's supplemental material, and if the game proper fails to work with that it is entirely within anyone's right to be bothered by that.

I am fine w/ people not liking things. Just not so when people are unreasonable about them.

That was my point. You called out people with an unreaonable viewpoint on one end of the spectrum without considering the other. Not important in the long run, Im out of this for a bit as I have some time to play FF15 rather than talk about it lol. Pz

I am fine w/ people not liking things. Just not so when people are unreasonable about them.

Complaining about invisible walls and blatant flaws of design in not unreasonable. They're everywhere and people complain often because they often have to deal with those.

Few people are complaining about let's say, the bros because it's one of the things well done in this game. It's simple really.

The kid Talcott seems like usual jrpg funny things to me though.

Granted the camera can get awkward at times but what you are saying seems to be more due to you not getting used to things or trying things out than them being bad.

For instance you can run by clicking L3 making all your problems related to running and attacking go away. In the combat your responsiveness depends on the weapon you are using, slower weapon will obviously mean you get into an animation lock and can't do anything while the animation is on...thats like a usual concept in games and you shouldn't have trouble with it. It is why a major part of combat revolves around you having to decide when to use the slow weapons and when to use faster ones. You can also press R3 after locking onto an enemy to toggle the lock on.

About dodging, are you paying attention to your mana bar? You can dodge everything as long as you have mana, if you get the blink ability then you can dodge last minute and not consume mana but for that you have to not be in a weapon animation lock.

Having to analyse enemy type being analysed between fights ? When has there been an FF game where once you analyse an enemy you never have to do it for that enemy type ever again?

Seems to me that you are only limiting yourself and getting frustrated at the game for that.

So what's the recommended level before the final boss fight? I'm at 41 and I don't know if I should go do more sidequests before tackling it.

I agree with the invisible walls claims, since I hit it too. However, the frequency of them in the huge open world is still low. While I would love to see them removed, it is not something that I encounter during exploration 90% of the time.

The walls are also mostly for the railings on the road for some strange reason and to go over them, we usually have to take a long detour. This sucks for sure and hopefully they can patch it out.

At least the invisible walls are fine compared to Star Ocean 5's. -_-

Why do you need to run in battle when you can warp?

I'm not trying to run in battle, im running in the field or dungeon and Noct with just warp to a dude and start attacking out of nowhere sometimes. It's real frustrating.

The only thing you've told me that I didn't know was the locking on. So thanks for that. I'm not going to bother touching your other points except for analysis. It makes 0 sense to have to wait for Ignis to analyze the same enemy every time you face it, from both a gameplay and a narrative perspective. A bestiary at the very least would make sense here. I'm not limiting myself, I'm trying to come to grips with a clumsy battle system.

I thought that way at first but the more side quests I was doing the more frequent the issue was. It seems the game tends to put side quests in areas that highlight the issue, unfortunately. Some places even have invisible walls on rocks you're usually able to jump on.

I agree about railings, it's definitely the most annoying and something I hated even in the ps2 era. I thought we were past those but apparently not. Rivers have the same problem really. Only one bridge forcing you to make a long ass detour instead of maybe putting rocks here and there to jump on, or just fucking warp across it at determined locations.
Is there a list of treasures you should keep? I just assumed they were like the junk loot in FFXII and sold everything, but I heard you're supposed to keep the Ascension Coins or whatever. Oops.

Some things are needed for sidequests as well. Enemy parts for example. I keep at least 1 of everything just in case.
