Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

So we're halfway through December with no word of the December Pro Patch...

Think it might be delayed to Jan?

I'd expect some news within this or next week. Jump Festa is in a couple of days, but barring that, I'd expect an ATR or something soon for the Holiday pack. We'll get details about both soon, i'd expect.

What...the hell?

What is it that's making these shots look so good? Extra motion blur?

Sweet if true, glad they're at least bringing Gilgamesh back. Though...wonder what exactly will be going on in Gladio's episode in that case. o_O

weird thing, when gladio left I just assumed he wanted to talk things over with his sis and help out with them setting stuff up in Caim. When I met back with him and found out he was hunting on the side, I got a lil peeved.

I felt peeved he left without even explaining anything to begin with lol. >_< Clearly if it was something as harmless as pitching in for the Attissia preparations he shoulda been able to tell us, buut he was like nope, gotta go, see-ya! *roadrunner dash*

Awh nice. Caught wind of it from another source saying it came in some special book and that Episode Gladio would feature it but at this rate it certainly looks official. Consider me interested -- just hope they implement it...well. And that they keep the combat interesting enough, since I assume we'll be limited to only the greatsword, shield, etc.

Honestly I would have been fine with him just leaving tbh. I didn't do any sidequests after iris left the party, so him leaving felt very much like a subtle "hey, I need to talk things over with my sis for while. It's gonna take time, so I'll meet up with you later" kinda deal.

Wondering if the dlc will go into anything much relating to his story. He's the only one in the team who doesn't have some major revelation of alteration of character, so he needs it.

How do you even get these camera angles? Wow!

The first shots are from the start of the fight, and the last shot is the parry animations :P

I didn't care for Gladio the moment I began XV, and I grew to hate him when he started telling Noctis to grow up or move on. Just felt forced and rude.

Gladio is the least interesting and likable of the bros, which seems to be a popular opinion (comments on his appearance aside). There's room for growth there, though. He's a jerk to Noctis because it's his job to make him into a strong king. By the time we see him moping on the train after Luna's death, it's been weeks. Gladio knows full well that he's suffering, but he knows he has to be stronger than that if he wants to be a good king, so he lays it on hard.

I think his DLC will give him a chance to shine and grow on people in a positive way.

Yeah I reasoned that as well, even if it turned out completely off the mark lmao and made me go ?? twice-over. Still random either way but hey, if the DLC is fun, I'll gladly call it worth the shoe-in. xP

Also I thought Gladio's passion for cup noodle was very deep, touched me on a level I could only explain if I pull out this cup noodle of my own and...cook it....

I didn't care for Gladio the moment I began XV, and I grew to hate him when he started telling Noctis to grow up or move on. Just felt forced and rude.

I thought gladio was fine. Each character has a role in the party and compliments the other. Ignis and Noct have an oddly mother-son type of relationship with Ignis being fully responsible and Noct being kinda hot-headed at times (interestingly, look at how they drive. If Ignis drives, his parking job is a lot cleaner and he will never crash in a u-turn, while noct will do sloppy parking and his u-turns have fucked my car up more times than I can count. Also: maybe its placebo effect, but I feel like landing the type-f with ignis is so much easier than with noct). Gladio serves as a core-center for the group making sure they care about each other and what is ailing them, while Prompto looks to do similar by waning that center by having jokes and making light of things.

I did have a problem with Gladio in chapter 10 when he was being a jerk to noct about him sulking (though tbh, Noct could have put a lil more interest into Ignis' blindness rather than be self-obsessed (though to be fair again, grief in the face of more grief can be hard to swallow when you're love dies) [Its this layer in a layer stuff that's the reason i like chapter 10's character interaction]

I overall thought gladio was fine, maybe a bit crude and an ass, but understandably so. Could have used a lot more compassion for a Casanova, but then again, now we know why he's single despite being a lady's man.

yeah, basically this.

I honestly don't expect the dlc to be... any good story wise. Idk, nagging feeling in the back of my brain is telling me Gladio's dlc will have a half-assed story, but Ignis' will be okay and Prompto's will have the most work put into its narrative.

Yup, I honestly think people forget that the scenes where he's being hard on Noctis were weeks after Luna's death.

I think Gladio's heart is in the right place, but he's wired by a sense of pride and impatience/intolerance with Noctis' slacker persona. After all, he (Noct) is a prince-turned-king, a man who will have to take responsibility for innumerable lives, and he struggles to live up to that role -- this is pretty much the centrepiece of Noctis' character development throughout the game, accepting his role as king instead of happy-go-lucky, future-deprived prince. The symbolism of the ring also plays into that -- until he accepts his father's and Luna's death and the burden to follow as king, he can't even bear to look at it let alone wear it.

So from Gladio's perspective, he's obviously had enough because as his role as protector and reality-checker, he's not given much of a leader to follow, which clearly he knows Noctis can and should embody.

Does that mean he goes about it tastefully? No, in a way, he does take it a bit far in ch. 10 and the fact that the deepest layer of Gladio is shown in that manner feels a bit forced and off-putting -- but it's also clear that Gladio isn't meant to be seen as correct or incorrect here; just a guy who relies on a punk to give him faith, not just 'mope', and expresses his dismay...harshly, lol.

how the fuck can you guys let this be excused? all of these fan boys settling for an unfinished game? MGSV5 was a fucking unfinished game and you are just going to these companies pump out unfinished products just because they cant make deadlines? FFXV sold over 5 million copies and made empty promises. If you dont get your voice out there, then these companies are going to keep pulling the same shit over and over again. Many people were left dissapointed.

"I want to create a very emotional ending to the game and want to make as many people cry as possible," he said. "You're spending so many hours playing the game, so when I finish a game and it ends on a sour note and it doesn't move me, it gets me disappointed. At least make me cry or give me some emotion! I want to give a moving ending for the consumers who invest so much time." - Hajime Tabata

So I just finished the game. I don't get the post-credit throne scene.
Are Noctis and Luna supposed to be alive?

The figure lies asleep in the fantasy.

Their dead and blissfully in a world of their own creation: a Final Fantasy

Its nice that you think that, but they are very different situations.
MGS5 is incomplete. There should be an extra chapter in there but its gone.
FF15 has a lot of cut content, but its story-complete. It has a clear beginning middle and end. Its narritive is messed up because of the cut content, and we all see that and accept it. Square has even gone on record saying they want to address the narrative's shortcomings.

As for that quote, idk why you mention it. The ending was great. It made me tear up a little and it was an amazing bookend to the game. The final boss could have been better, but the fight prior, the character interactions before and after, and the ending, post scenes and all are really well done. It has a great and emotional end.

or you know, just shitpost and not care about what actually is going on.

also, fun fact, this game was only in development for 3-4 years. There have been some leaks regarding how development went and some scenes that were cut, and it really looks like it was a "scraped for time" issue.

I had (and have, post game is addicting in its own way) fun with the game, despite its narrative problems. This is not an Incomplete story, but a poorly handled one.

As for you question: "How the fuck can you let this game be excused". Simple: I felt i got my $60USD out of it. For the most part, I got my 10 years of hype out of it, and oddly enough, square seems to give a shit about people's opinion of this game before, during, and after release of this game. Calm down, this isn't a Konomi situation.

The game is great. Many people found it to be great. Deal with that fact.

Ehh I thought all of Gladio's hard ass moments on Noct were fine. I quite liked them actually. I never thought he was being too hard on him, Noct had to move on and if getting rough with him was the answer then it had to be done.

Honestly many of us are at least a little bit disappointed, know what SE did wrong, and just hope they do too and will learn from it in the future. Thing is there's a lot of good in the game that fought its way to the surface and that is hard to wave off because for 10 years of troubled development, restructuring, and a rebooted development it's almost miraculous it's not trash through and through.

Sort of like a rose with thorns or thorns with roses kind of thing, at least for me.*shrug*

Are Noctis and Luna supposed to be alive?

They're dead. Maybe everyone is dead. Who knows.

Unless FFXV-2 becomes a thing. Then they'll rise from the
farplane
Crystal to have another roadtrip, and
Y
Luna will divorce Noctis for having a flirty link strike with Iris and we'll find out Ardyn had a twin.

I mean he definitely acts like a dick, but I found Gladio's treatment of Noct understandable given his character. Gladio watched his father dedicate his life to his King, and he's always planned to do just the same. It's something he takes pride in. But given the sacrifices he's willing to make for Noctis, he expects nothing but the same strength of will and dedication from the man he's sworn to protect.

I think it'd be cool if Iris was included in Gladio's dlc. Gladio probably wouldn't let her take on Gilgamesh though... lol

Game needs more bosses like the lv 99 Mech Superboss.

He is hard, but if you focus on certain parts, the fight becomes easier. Such as breaking off his anti air arm so you can airdance around him without getting shot out of the air within 3 seconds
Or hitting the invincible rocket launcher as he's opened the casing on it to do crit damage and break those eventually.
Just more interactive/varied stuff to change how the fight flows.

Were you ever able to break the arm of an iron giant and use it's sword against them? I swear I saw that somewhere.

This sums it up really well. The game has problems (more like holes, actually) that even most of its most ardent defenders have acknowledged, but underneath the swiss cheese narrative and odd juxtaposition between the open world and linear halves of the game is an unpolished gem. Some people are more willing to forgive its lack of polish than others.

The lv120 bosses, give them a try.

Yeah, "unpolished gem" and "rose with thorns" fit this game perfectly.

How do you fight that mech? I wanna give it a try :P Wonder if its harder than the level 110 hunt :P

Is there one other than Naglfar? I already killed him, didn't feel like anything other than a sponge with no tactical targets that change the flow of the battle on him unless I just killed him too fast to notice lol.

Have you tried the costlemark menace raid boss yet? I hear thats the hardest boss in the game, but I feel like i'm scared because "no items allowed"/

I just stood around behind hammerhead near the campsite, eventually one of the Magitech engines that harrasses you drops a Superboss "MA-X Angelus-0" on you with 90% damage reduction to all body parts. Only way I could reliably do damage to his main torso was by breaking off his anti-air and rocket launchers then I could comfortably take him down. It reminded me of the old style FF bosses where you had to kill the bosses appendages to have a chance at the main boss :D

I found it much harder than the 110 Ayakashi personally (hold parry to win? lol)

Lol, yeah okay thanks :)
I also had Aranea's help with the Ayakashi, so it pretty much went down like a chump (barring a few healing items)

Yes they are? Noctis was stabbed and Ardyn's body disappeared when he said "I'll wait for you in the afterlife". How aren't they dead? Vortex entrance and all that?
Yeah. You even see a physical sword impaling Noctis, his body slumped over. His father was there in spirit while he was being murdered. Was a pretty great moment, especially considering Regis knew that was how his son was going to die long ago.

And it was actually Regis who delivered the final blow that killed his son.

In a way, that moment was worse for Regis than it was for Noctis. Especially since it had been looming over him as something to dread for most of his life.

Plus Noctis doesn't seem too terribly concerned; considering how broken up he was just losing track of Prompto you'd think he'd be out of his mind in anger if all his friends were confirmed dead. Instead he looks all "You are a jackass but yeah this is fine, it's between us".

I'd like to think he came to the realisation that this needs to end now no matter what and that he knew his bros knew they could die on the spot and that they were ok with that. Helping Noct and friendship and all. I mean Ardyn was super powerful, wasn't he. What it to say he couldn't just kill them like that?

I was wondering about that, since it is his own sword in Noctis. That is fucked up. And awesome.

Its very dark and one of the parts of the ending I loved. Seeing Regis' face of hesitation in that scene was perfect. Seeing Noctis pleading to trust in him, to kill him was perfect.

It really makes the dawn trailer so much more powerful imo.

I was wondering about that, since it is his own sword in Noctis. That is fucked up. And awesome.

Yep, the moment where (I think?) the last Lucii king right before him goes for Noctis, the look that shows up on Regis' face just punches me -- and then finally when Noctis tells his dad to trust him and he takes up his own form...the whole last half hour of the game is an emotional climax, lol.

I don't know why it didn't click that the final one to stab him was Regis. Even though I realized it was his sword. I thought those figures were the old gods, not the old kings. Makes me like that scene a lot more now that my eyes have been opened.

I now give Final Fantasy XV a solid 5.5/10 from my initial 5.

Which is why it's a shame they didn't put the dawn scenes in the beginning of the game somewhere. Would've made a great bookend.

Honestly they could have just sprinkled a lot of random scenes as dreams or nightmares for noct and have them trigger at random with a flag that if triggered it doesn't trigger again. Would have made open world exploring and even just normal sleeping better imo.

Having a scene while randomly camping noct is sleeping and dreams of his dad holding him lamenting his future would be great indeed./

......Oh man new areas beyond Lucis? Sweet. This dlc sounds exciting hmmm

Gladio's is most definitely in Lucis. Probably in an inaccessible area in the open world.
Ignis's will probably be in a part of altissia we haven't seen before while shit is going down.
Prompto's will probably be completely new in the other continent

Is there one other than Naglfar? I already killed him, didn't feel like anything other than a sponge with no tactical targets that change the flow of the battle on him unless I just killed him too fast to notice lol.

Nothing in this game will ever be difficult. It's impossible to lose unless you run out of items. It should have been Game Over the second Noctis falls to 0 out of danger so at least then you have "get the item off" pressure should you get hit.

There is one no item dungeon with a bunch of attrition fights and a single boss that is entirely mitigated by Thermal suit.

What even is happening to Loli Luna in that Dawn trailer. Is that Loqi manhandling her?

Another cut thing I guess.

I think I saw someone say it was that older guy that you kidnap who escapes immediately after. lol

My thoughts exactly. When I heard that they had extra stuff and didn't know where to put it I was like seriously? Just have a few mandatory camping scenes where Noctis dreams about the past or something! haha

get back to us when you do the Costlemark menace raid.
