Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

As dead as FFXIII was good
BTW: Never played XIII but have it on steam. Is the while game like chapter 13 or why do people hate is so much? I didn't mind the linear dungeons in XV. Other than chapter 13. That's just trash.

People try to convince themselves those were just anime spirits.

It is indeed textbook anime symbolism.
They appear for only a split second, only Ardyn sees them, he shakes his head in agony and they are gone again, like a mere illusion. It is Just Noctis and Luna who defeat Ardyn after that.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I hated it because the story and characters were downright terrible.

But the bros helped me in the afterlife to defeat Ardyn, didn't they?

I don't think that was the afterlife - the afterlife is Heaven where Noctis and Luna are together. I think that when the bros appear, it's their courage and spirit to support Noctis embodied as their presence and I think it is taking place inside the crystal, because it looks like the same background inside the crystal when Noctis was talking to Bahamut.

Linear, bad writing, horrible characters, terrible plot. Good music tho.

Guys it's all anime symbolism

all

except for Regis and Luna

It's anime symbolism except the actual ghosts in the same scene

yeah

all symbolism

Brotherhood was literally anime. So yes.

I watched some scenes. The scene where Noctis gets locked up in the crystal looks like the same place where Luna tries to heal Ardyn. The bros don't evaporate. I do think that they still live.

Didn't know I had to take Anime 101 in order to understand the ending lol.

I like to think they are dead as that makes it way more dramatic. They started the road trip together and they ended it together. If that's not the case I'd be just as fine with that though. Sure the developers will clear that up during an interview or something.

I don't even think Luna was *really* there (Regis had to be, since he was one of the Kings/Knights of the Round, but the vision Ardyn saw was ALL symbolism). Luna's thing with Ardyn seemed to be a continuation of when she grabbed him after she was stabbed, unless I'm wrong about that scene happening.

Kinda surprised how much people want the guys to be dead. It's not really that important, but I don't even think the game tries to make you think they died.

EDIT: Yup, here's the scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tC7tEJ_jvzc

Same arm and everything, and she even recites the prophecy as she does it.

Bit of a missed opportunity by interrupting Somnus playing in the final chapter. Should have let it play all thr way while the guys were reaching Ardyn. Would have had a stronger atmosphere and air of finality.

It was stupid how the enemies there instantly spawned. Should've had a nice moment with the song.

I posted this a few pages back - Im reposting it because I really want to hear some opinions on this:

It just hit me, all 3 supporting members were hit/hurt in the way that they supported Noctis. Ignis always watched out for him and went blind, needing people to look out for him.

Gladio was a bodyguard who, out on his own needed guarding.

Prompto was just a best friend, who was struck by his best friend and left all alone.

Deep...thoughts...:)

I'd be fine with that if they hadn't died like bitches to Ardyn casually waving his hand. Like, they didn't even move to block an attack aimed at Noctis or anything; Ardyn literally just goes "Nah 1v1 me scrub" and makes them fall down. This isn't the kind of story that would just casusally kill off 3 of the 4 main characters and not even call attention to it. Not with the kind of death scene Luna got.

Plus Noctis doesn't seem too terribly concerned; considering how broken up he was just losing track of Prompto you'd think he'd be out of his mind in anger if all his friends were confirmed dead. Instead he looks all "You are a jackass but yeah this is fine, it's between us".

Uh, they have more scenes after the Ardyn knockout thing.

I swear, some people weren't watching the cutscenes.

I actually know a bit about that stuff. I worked as a manga style artist and author for publishers like TOKYOPOP. I also learned/studied comic art, storyboard and animation.
The scene, how it is told and how it is shot, is very close to how that imagery and symbolism would be usually used in manga and anime.
If the guys were dead, that scene would play out very differently. I would tell and shoot it differently. The guys being mere illusions of Ardyn and only mental support for Noctis, I would however tell very similar to that.

The soundtrack beats Xenoblade, this, for me, is a fucking big milestone.

Shimomura outdone herself, only she can take the series where Uematsu took it, imo.

KH still remains her best work.

The music experience in this game is either battle music or the portable MP3.

Uematsu & Hamauzu achieved way more than Battle music.

Then again whoever decided not to play music in the fields tanked this OST for me.

Damn, that's grim.

Reminds me how in Chrono Trigger the Guru of Reason lost his sanity, the Guru of Life was forced to make and sell weapons to earn a living, and the Guru of Time literally got trapped at the End of Time.

But the bros helped me in the afterlife to defeat Ardyn, didn't they?

They literally flashed on the screen for a millisecond when Noct entered, triggering Ardyn's memory. They didn't do anything contrary to Luna or the ghosts that struck Ardyn.

They are very much alive and any other assumption is a HUGE leap.

What kind of shitty kingsguard live when their king dies?
Also all present parties in the afterlife are dead, the bros aren't conveniently escaping this because "anime". We're all well aware of how the power of friendship is usually depicted, this doesn't refute their death at all, they just don't have anything to contribute in the afterlife except their presence and support.

We see Insomnia and the dog left alone after the ending, bros aren't there. If they were alive they would have shown them react to the sun coming back, no reason to not show them. There are however reasons to not show their corpses.

Anyway we'll never know and if Tabata is asked he'll just say whatever people want to hear at that time.

I'd be happy if they're alive though, actually them being dead probably keep me away from replaying it

Don't believe the haters, form your own opinion on the game. The tired trope of "it gets good after the 20 hour tutorial" is really just a way of saying that the game waits until really late to give you total control over your party makeup. It is a little slow to start, but the game does some interesting things narratively with the party changes. I thought it was great, but I know I'm in the minority on that one.

Noctis and Ardyn aren't dead in that scene.

Which is ironic, considering the XV party makeup doesn't change for the entire game (and tbh the characters aren't significantly different outside of their health pools and which techs do the most damage) and no one complains about that.

Don't get salty. Don't get salty.

Regarding XIII. I noticed that the people who were exposed to X onwards tend to like it. I think the favorites also depend what generation you grew up on. Those who started playing FF in the 80s-early 90s put FFVI as one of their best. Those who started late 90s-early 00s tend to love VII or X. Those who started 00 onwards tend to like X or XIII.

Yes they are? Noctis was stabbed and Ardyn's body disappeared when he said "I'll wait for you in the afterlife". How aren't they dead? Vortex entrance and all that?

They were sucked into crystal and finally died after their bodies disintegrated along with the ring.

Read my post, I said I don't think they died.

I swear, some people don't read before they quote.

I'm referring to the first part of your post, where you imply that if they did die, it would have happened at the point where Ardyn attacked them. (Unless I completely misunderstood your post)

Ardyn is immortal and cannot die until the chosen king (with all the old Kings' power) takes him out, which happens at the end of that scene. Ardyn also specifically says he awaits Noctis in the "Beyond".

They're not dead until they actually dematerialize.

I always felt this was where the game took a major nosedive. The story comes to a screeching halt and all development on the fugitive angle goes out the window. Pulse was cool and all, but nothing important really happens there.

Ahh, see, that's what I meant. All good then. Thanks!

To be fair it's a prettier chapter 13 + "Moms are tough"

The systems don't open up completely until chapter 10. After that you can freely switch party members as well as use all the roles. Fights definitely got more fun after that point.

Accidentally took off into the skies when it was nighttime. Never been so scared before when playing this game lmao, I couldn't see for shit. Fortunately I was able to land safely.

Nah, I was saying that if the Bros had died it A. Would have happened in the throne room before the final battle and B. Would have been much, much more obvious. More obvious than him just knocking them out with some puny purple magic. Subtle storytelling has never been a big part of the FF formula, they'd have gotten a big death scene and probably would have died actually doing something proactive (like Luna) rather than just all getting casually one shot out of nowhere.

Even though they don't show up again after the fight it's pretty clear they weren't intended to be dead. Sort of like how it was always pretty obvious the crew of FFVII survived the ending despite not being in it.

The people that claim the guys are dead claim that they died in the scene before Noctis ascends the throne, when they turn to face the daemon horde. It just sounded like you had forgotten that scene took place.

Fights got more fun; but as someone who played the game primarily for the story, it was where my enjoyment started to dip. If they had let us use the whole party while still furthering the narrative, I think the game would have been much better.

No problem!

I got halfway through the no item Sealed Dungeon yesterday and because of my team members dying to random stuff and me not having the Comeback ascension, which lead everyone beside Noctis running around with 1000-2000 HP between floors, I gave up.
While this will probably be the end of my adventure with XV until the DLC comes, I wanted to ask about a thing I noticed when in the dungeon in question.

At one point I decided to switch to Easy, to just be done with this thing. I read that on Easy Carbuncle resurrects you, making it very hard to die. I never used easy mode before, so I don't know if it's normal, but in the no item dungeon, during every fight on easy, there's a big crossed out Carbuncle sign on the left side of the screen. I assume that it means that it won't come to save me (and it sure didn't, twice), but I wanted to know if there's a reason for that. As far as I remember I cleared the Platinum Demo and I think I got a Carbuncle confirmation when starting the game, so I'm very confused. Does this just mean that it's unavailable in that last dungeon?

There are simply some places where Easy Mode doesn't work for them. As seen by said icon.

I remember a popup mentioning that about hard hunts when I activated it. I guess that dungeon can't really be cheesed than. Thanks, I was worried that my Carbuncle was broken. :)

Shit story and characters, and most of the game is running down pretty hallways and fighting battles. No towns either.

OTOH the soundtrack is GOAT (literally best in the series IMO) and the battle system is really fun. It also has a really visually interesting world to explore.

Well worth playing IMO. I thoroughly enjoyed it for what it is.
