The whole Leviathan battle was one big mess. Same for the other Astral battles and sadly the final battle too. The physics system, combat system and camera clearly weren't adapted well for those.
I kind of like some other, smaller things we've been shown though, like the dungeon with Aranea, Gladio's dickish attitude at several points in the game, and the part where you chase "Ardyn" on the train. Did people here catch
Ardyn humming the chocobo theme before the whole Prompto/Ardyn illusion thing? I found that quite funny since Prompto's always the one singing FF themes, so once you know that the illusion is going to take place, that kind of foreshadows it. See, this is why I allow myself to get spoiled, it'll allow me to spot those things and enjoy them when playing instead of dismissing it as another weird bit of dialogue and forgetting that it ever happened.
Also, I bet many players will regret their answer to the "Do you really mean that, Noct?" question when they realize it isn't Ardyn asking, but Prompto. Not me, though. I'll be prepared!
The fact that the illusion's not more obvious (or not made more obvious later on) makes it really weird, though. I mean, even Falk seems to have doubted that it wasn't actually Ardyn for a while there.
That's just bad storytelling at work. Like everything happening off-screen: the Insomnia invasion, Ignis going blind, Luna's death and... wait, isn't that most of the important plot points so far? I wouldn't be surprised if Ravus and the guys from the empire are all killed off-screen as well.
Despite my criticism I'm sure I and most people looking forward to this will still enjoy the game though, it's just that everything about the game seems to be exactly as unpolished as I expected it to be, and I'm a bit sad that I won't be able to recommend it as a first FF for my friends since it has a boring first few hours, starts with Cindy/Cidney (making a shamefully bad first impression on people who aren't familiar with typical FF designs), doesn't have a particularly great combat system or story, etc.
My niece who recently became a FF fan with FFVII and FFIX but got bored out of her guts by the long stretches of non-story in FFX and found Kingsglaive ridiculous probably won't be willing to play past the opening hours either.
My guess for the metacritic rating would be about ~80, which isn't bad at all!
What the fuck, you can't even fly during the main story and not freely ?
Looks to be as much as an afterthought as Type-0's airship. It's as if the majority of the game was created by Type-0's director and team which made much of the game feel like another Type-0.
