Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

This is the exact reason. Loved how they alluded to it. Pretty subtle.

I think it's also potentially why Cid ended up having a falling out with Regis. Seeing as Insomnia products are hard to come by outside the city, especially potentially life-saving items and the fact that Regis ended up erecting a huge wall around the city, you can see why Cid ended up leaving the guy.

The only thing worse than three Red Knights and a Naga are four Red Knights with items disabled. Thankfully I was level 99 when I attempted that so Armiger killed 2 knights easily. Still had a wipe there once though.

Would you guys say this game has the most tragic/saddest game in the mainline FF series?

It is certainly up there, sure, although FFX's ending impacts me more emotionally and a certain demise in VII feels sadder to me. In both cases a lot of it has to do with superior cohesion and build-up.

It is up there, though, aye.

I think I was sadder when I got through Crisis Core's ending, even though I knew it was coming. Just the fact that Zack stops messaging people already kinda hurt. Then the ending sequence comes along and I'm like ;0;.

If XV had been a properly completed game, I think it would have topped Crisis Core's ending easily for me. The ending made me emotional, but then made me think that it could have been so much more.

X definitely still wins for me. XV is otherwise the most tragic though, X still was mostly hopeful but XV is like a big reset on civilization along with the death of the protagonist, his family line ending, and the possible deaths of his companions.

I would also say IX was sad since Vivi "stopped." :(

When it was originally shown to the public then on, it always possessed a very brooding, melancholy atmosphere, so yes it's to be expected I think. Looks like the end result was made chippier as a part of the restructuring, but it's still up there with VI, VII, and X for me.

Of course not. The only earned tragic moments in the game are Ignis' eyesight and the Regalia being destroyed.

The tragedy of the storytelling hit me most.
/half-sarcastic

I feel this way, but in reverse. I hated XBX, and its storytelling and gated off gameplay was even worse than this game.

Unless you literally mean Xenoblade, as in the first one. There might be a case for that (as XB has a very strongly told story despite its huge and open world)

Of course I mean Xenoblade, that's the game I said. Would've added an X if I meant the second game. Even specified it came out before proper development on XV started, which was after Xenoblade's 2010 release.

Finished the Leviathan part and the next scene: what fucking bullshit. Was enjoying it then Square shit the bed. Just wow. Someone needs to be fired.

"Woman in the refrigerator" indeed.

Good god did Square fuck over Luna.

Usually I get choked up at these kind of scenes but that game didn't earn that death. What a fucking load of shitting writing.

I knew I shouldn't have come back to the FF games but I had hope. They haven't been good since 10.

Fucking stupid.

It's definitely the darkest one with the largest stakes/most suffering/most deaths. Although personally I was more affected by X's story. I actually felt more for the Regalia's demise than Luna's death. Stood right by the car for a few minutes before moving on.

On another note, I would like to add how much I love the argument scene with Noct and Gladio. It felt really close to home for me because earlier this year two friends of mine had a really heated argument and I was like Prompto trying to mediate them and make sure they don't outright fight each other while trying to maintain optimistic throughout a shitty situation. The game captured the awkwardness between the bros extremely well.

I think X has the most emotional ending, but its not quite as tragic as XV. XV is about people not having agency over they're fate to die, having to accept that and live with that and still do the right thing. Its about people being wronged and accepting they've been wronged and dying as a result. No one has a choice.
(actually, now that I think about it, Old noct and how resolute (yet sad) he is oddly like Luna prior to her death. huh...)

Yeah, but with IX it was much more "fill in the lines" with vivi. The game never straight up says he "stopped", but its heavily implied.

I mean, I'll agree that the death wasn't earned, not like other games, and certainly not like FF7's... but I don't think the game's worth writing off because of that. Unless you really, really, really hoped that Luna would have a bigger part?

Just (another) sign of shit writing.

It's sad when the female character with the most dialogue and screen time is the one with the less clothes.

Luna is just a plot point, even worse her only purpose was to die to further motivate Noctus, thus very much a "woman in refrigerator" archetype.

Cindy is the actual main female character. Wow.

Smh Aranae does not deserve disrespect like this

I wonder if LR and XIII-2 really hurt the story telling standard of the series.

There is A LOT in FFXV that's reminiscent of these two games, especially LR.

What was once the series' most important goal has become secondary.

As long as they slap together a few death scenes to indicate drama, they can just call it a day and ship the game.

Got the Plat. That turtle fight was easy. Just time consuming. Took around 45 min.

Guess I'll wait and see if the DLC is good.

FFIX Vivi arc was pretty sad.

Every FF has a sad scene.

It's more like... Does FFXV have the saddest/tragic overall arc in the entire mainline FF series?

The way I see it, all the FF arcs have high spirits and positivity up to the end. FFXV on the other hand is a spiral descending to hell and even in the end, all things are lost with everything restarting again.

FFXV is basically a representation of the development of the game.

No kidding, even Noctis completely changing to a different thing after 10 years is a representation of the development too!

I think X is way more sad, compounded by how you find out what exactly the end goal is.

If the characters in XV had any depth, maybe their end would've been better, but ultimately there's not much reason to care about their fates.

In all honesty I have to say that I found the ending "unsatisfying". I understand it completely and accept it, but:
- Luna is dead (for no real reason IMO and it adds no real value for me narratively)
- you are dead, (it's like they felt they could only make the role of the king/oracle feel "deep" by killing off Noctis/Luna which just felt cheap to me)
- your bros status is left ambiguous (I'm gonna optimistic and assume that when Noctis completed the process all the demons were driven back by the light).
- Ignis is still blind, you never get to see Cidney, Iris, Aranea etc again.

Yeah, you save the world, but none of it actually gets to feel like a victory. And then they just kind of hit you with a "here is an imaginary scene of Luna & Noctis' wedding"... for which you are supposed to feel? ...Cathartic? Despite the game giving them literally nothing except a handful of flashbacks and a notebook exchange. I can't feel anything for grade school romance for people in their twenties that never went anywhere, and an ending that isn't even "real".

The more I think about it, the more I am unsatisfied by them killing off Luna (especially when it's something that's been handled better by previous FF games). I just feel like everything about her and your lack of interaction with the game's heroine was just lacking. She deserved better and the game feels weaker and less satisfying for it.

The bro road trip aspect was great though aside from trivially kicking them out of the final fight and then leaving their ending ambiguous. I was actually really gutted that the game/PS4 wouldn't let me screencap that image of the four empty seats on the campsite from the end. That was a great image and would have been a good one to keep.

Such a shame.

I'd like to know what Ardyn meant when he said, referring to Gentianna "that's the face you wore the day..."

Did he mean the day they killed her or did he meet her in his past?

In the Italian subtitles you can read "Bellissima come il giorno in cui ti ucc..." which translates directly to "[You are] as beautiful as the day I kill..." (killed you?)

We caused so much destruction to achieve the meh status at the end of the game.

Luna and Noctis destroyed the entirety of Alitissia to get Leviathan's power...How is this any better than what Niflheim's doing to get the Crystal from Insomnia ?

It was a beautiful thriving kingdom.

Not to mention the deaths on the train ride.

At the end of it all,the summons weren't even needed! We beat Ardyn solo anyway, though we do get some assistance against Ifrit.

I'd classify X-2 as an extended fanfic epilogue.

Actually come to think of it, none of the summons really did anything. Leviathan killed plenty of people for no good reason, Shiva gave Noctis a trident and Bahamut told Noctis a bedtime story. I'm still lost at why Luna had to form the Covenant with them to begin with. I mean, Ardyn was the problem, so why doesn't Bahamut tell Regis to kill him or something as opposed to being super vague in the Omen trailer?
