Because 30 years ago vs. today

And also again, you can play the old game and play the new one and compare them and maybe you'll understand maybe you won't

You’ve played the new one?

It´s not that the in game character isn´t beautiful. It just looks like 30 years older than the actress

Not too late for you to take advantage of the great deals SpecSavers has running for Black Friday/Cyber Monday.

Seriously, when is this bullshit trend going to stop in the Western developer community?

These faces are “voluntarily” transformed, so don't tell me it's the lighting, the polygons or some crap like that. At some point, you have to send a strong signal to these developers: don't buy or play their games. Attacking publishers' wallets is the only way to make your voice heard.

“I demand a 1-1 replica of this specific Actress in your game or I won’t buy it, even though in this case she’s a supporting character that I think is a woke inclusion”

It's just ironic seeing certain people being hyped for a SweetBaby/DEI mediocre-looking game after making a complete drama irt the same issues avout a game nobody even cared about.

Yeah, which people complained about woke and DEI for Concord only to turn around and express extreme hype for Indiana Jones?

You ran away when adamsapple adamsapple asked you to prove your accusations.

Concord and Indiana Jones aren’t in the same genre, play nothing alike and push for vastly different experiences. It’s perfectly fine for someone to be hyped for one and turned off for the other.

What made you think I ran away? Lol

I literally posted this:
So, since you got corrected on it not being fake, I accept your apology.

But SweetBaby influence isn't even an issue really, the game just looks mediocre af.

And if you pay attention, I'm talking about the same energy.
People like him can ask for quotes, but everybody here knows he and a group of others are sneaky enough to resort to laughing emojis primarily.
Then again, you're part of the hardcore Xbox defenders, so no surprise seeing you sticking up for him like this.

You guys need to drop the Sweet Baby bullshit, it's going to be in every AAA game going forward, whether it's under the guise of Sweet Baby or some other name.

People want to talk about the game, it's near impossible.
I’m not one to quote myself but today I’ll be kind enough to do it:
Do you work at an international corporation or government institution? If anything, they’ll invest more in DEI. It’s a booming business. I see more and more people from my team moving to DEI management positions across the company. You guys are in for a rough awakening if you think this is going anywhere.

DEI is only getting started.

Are all the Playstation bootlickers in this thread going to crawl back and apologise if there's nothing aberrant in the game?

Of course they're not.

If there's a sniff of a woman in this game they'll be all like "See! We told you! DEI!".

Whatever is needed to fit their hypocritical narrative.

You've been judged.

Yikes, joined 2023 with only 5 post and all in this thread. Alright, rat squad, spill the beans. whose Alt are we dealing with here?

Until Dawn has better facial animations than almost everything out there, but I don't play facial animations I play games. If you want to give the game 5/10 for facial animations then be my guest. 🤷‍♀️
Not just facial animations. But animations are a key element to a game's quality.

Indy combat looks stiff as well and environments sterile, though lighting and art direction looks good.

Like I said earlier, this looks like a typical pc-to-console port you buy at some sale.

Why deride a game for its looks? It looks good enough and the gameplay is king. Graphics, personally, are cherry on top. Considering machine games past, odds are the gameplay is brilliant. I wouldn't be suprised if this game scores a 85-89 in metacritic.

Plus, although Indian Jones doesn't have much brand appeal nowdays, people like me who like tomb raider and uncharted games, are likely to give it a go( especially considering there might not be any more uncharted game). The game could be a hit.

Indi has simpler animations during gameplay.

That ensures low input lag, 1 to 1 control.

Any game that has complex animation blending reserves a lot of milliseconds when you push the stick to get character going.

Anyone that considers gameplay as most important would prefer Indi approach.

"looks good enough" might just not be enough for all.

Had to look em up to see what games they made, but not surprised to see they made the last few Wolfenstein games.
Defenitely can see why Indy is off-putting to me.

That's fair. I can see how it's your cup of tea. No argument there.
But this game is like a cheap copy of Uncharted or Tomb Raider.

I was a massive Indy fan as a kid, but this doesn't interest me at all.

Anyway, I was already out until that Ozriel dragged me back, so I'll leave the rest to those interested in the game.✌🏾

Even the CGI animations are sub-par to OG Until Dawn though.

And games like Tomb Raider and Uncharted don't seem to have a problem with having great animations at all.

Personally I like it this way, shows the focus is more on gameplay and not graphics. I assume you haven't forgotten hellblade 2. It looked amazing, had great animation and was trash as a game.

Persoanlly, I don't think I will enjoy it as much as uncharted games but you never know. Trailers don't reveal the complete story after all.

I can get that. Maybe reviews and word of mouth will catch your eye?.

I honestly still don't get why they went with a first person perspective over third person. It doesn't make sense to me in an Indy game.

I really want to hear whoever mandated this explain their design choice.

There are a lot of youtubers that seem to think this "non buynary" movement is something they can artificially make happen. I mean, people are not buying woke games because they don´t like them. You don´t have to "convince" them not to buy those games. Just tell them why they are woke and people will do whatever they feel like.

It´s like trying to convince people back in the day not to buy GTA5 because it promotes violence, women objectification, depicts minorities in a way that might confirm negative stereotypes, trivializes the use of drugs, etc

It wouldn´t work, because people find games with those characteristics interesting. A campaign against the game in those terms might actually increase sales

But if you tell people a game is woke as in it makes women deliberately ugly so you don´t objectify them, make the main character weak so you don´t idealize him too much, make the female sidekick better in every way to the protagonist to empower women players, make violence dull or fake so you don´t get too excited about killing people and so on and so on...
They will not buy it because they don´t like that kind of game.

You could hide those facts about the game, which is what woke devs appear to be trying to do, to fool people into buying them. But in the end, people want to play what they want to play, and you can´t force them to play games they don´t like. You can fool them once or twice, but once they see the pattern, it´s over. And that´s what´s happening now

So, don´t tell people not to buy woke games. Just tell them when a game is woke, and let them make their own decision. That´s what they are going to do anyways

Probably because devs previous games were first person? Since they experience with fps combat mechanics why risk third person? Plus going third person comes with the risk of people unfavourably comparing it to uncharted( which people are still doing).

What are you talking about?

Maybe you don’t notice it.

Try playing Monster Hunter Rise then move on to Wilds (beta).

Rise being a Switch game was a lot more responsive.

MH being a gameplay focused series, they still didn’t went overboard with animations in Wilds, yet its immediately noticeable how simpler game feels so much better in controls.

They really shouldn't have gotten intimidated by Uncharted comparisons, if that's the case, given Indy has largely served as the root inspiration for series like Tomb Raider, Pitfall and Uncharted. Instead, they should've proudly embraced those comparisons and worn them on their shelve with the ambition to out do those derivative competitors.

There's something about this that looks so stiff and lifeless.

I just don't care about stuff like this anymore. These companies have burned away too much good will with nostalgic properties to trust any of them anymore.

What are you implying? That Tomb Raider and Uncharted have unresponsive gameplay?

Simple, all Zenimax had was 1st-person centric devs so they went with it.

Probably because devs previous games were first person? Since they experience with fps combat mechanics why risk third person? Plus going third person comes with the risk of people unfavourably comparing it to uncharted( which people are still doing).
1st person works best when the devs fully commit to it, that's how you get the most out of the immersion offered by that camera perspective. Titles like Bioshock, Mirror's Edge, Dishonored the new Dooms etc all prove this.

If you do unnecessary 3rd person camera transitions or make lots of cutscenes in 3rd person (this game does both), then you lose the immersion without gaining what 3rd person offers (being able to see the character, being able to see more around you without moving the camera, being able to judge distances etc). You basically get the negatives of both worlds with minimal positives from both.

They really shouldn't gotten intimidated by Uncharted comparisons, if that's the case, given Indy has largely served as the root inspiration for series like Tomb Raider, Pitfall and Uncharted. Except these competitors have largely improved on the Indiana Jones formula and managed to deliver with far more consistency not only in games, but also in film.

There's a reason that even a middling Uncharted film can outdo a new Indiana Jones film in the theaters.

They have a right to be intimidated, but it shouldn't drive their design of the game to this extent.

Animation quality has nothing to do with how long or complex it is. The walking animation the first two seconds is PSX CGI worthy. Those fists when Indy is running are pathetic. Indy looking straight into the wall when wall crawling is embarrassing.

Making excuses about how it's going to make it more responsive is moot when bad animation is present even in the CGI. There are also plenty of games with godly tier animations like NieR: Automata that completely defeat the notion of good animation being a deterrent for smooth gameplay.

Hardly. That's your pov, and I can respect that, but I largely disagree with them "improving" off Indy. None of the Uncharted games have really managed to recapture the epicness of the original trilogy imo. That's not to say they weren't fine games on their own.

Latest Indy flick wasn't probably what fans actually wanted to see, btw. But, hey, what do I know.

What is this “epicness” that was unachieved?

Look, this is just a matter of taste.

If you think the Uncharted series is superior and out did Indy in every capacity then that's great for you. I'm happy for you. There's no need to get defensive here. Personally, I think the individual adventures across the games weren't that overly imaginative, but were still enjoyable in their own right and warranted a playthrough or two. You're conversing with someone who has the platinum trophies in UC 1-3 if that eases your mind knowing that.

But, I digress. This is a thread about the latest Indy game. Derailing it into an "Uncharted vs. Indy pissing contest" was not my intent.

It isn’t COD tier. Or Wolfenstein 2 tier.

Japanese 3rd person action games are gold standard. Mostly because animations are over the top, which helps in communicating actions taken by player/enemies.

Indiana Jones is grounded setting, so cannot expect it to match those. Even if it were a fictional game with character doing unbelievable stuff, still Western devs lag in this department.

……

With that said, enough about why these are bad. I would like to highlight what it brings to the table.

Those fist fights, they will feel absolutely terrible with input lag. There needs to be 1 to 1 response if they ever hope to make it feel good. It does take a bit to get used to in Riddick, but once it clicks, it works well. Mainly cause its precise.

synopsis:
In *Indiana Jones and the Great Circle*, set in 1937 between *Raiders of the Lost Ark* and *Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade*, Indy must stop various groups from exploiting the power of the Great Circle—an ancient map that connects mysterious, sacred sites around the world. As he journeys across locations like Rome, Thailand, Egypt, Shanghai, and the Himalayas, Indy’s traditional approach to archaeology is challenged by a diverse cast of characters. A strong feminist archaeologist continuously outwits Indy, advocating for women’s equal role in exploration, while an Indigenous ally pushes back against his colonial attitudes, emphasizing the need to respect local cultures and histories. Meanwhile, a morally complex villain with a cause—perhaps a nationalist or preservationist—fights to stop Indy’s treasure-hunting, believing the artifacts should remain untouched. A younger, idealistic academic critiques Indy’s exploitative methods, pushing for more ethical, sustainable archaeology. Throughout the adventure, there are subtle LGBTQ+ relationships, a nod to the growing awareness of gender and sexual identity in the 1930s, with moments that modern players will recognize but that fit the historical context. This blend of progressive ideas—feminism, racial awareness, LGBTQ+ representation, and environmental activism—would highlight modern values while reflecting the social tensions and ethical dilemmas of the time.

Can they pull this off for the "Modern Audiences" 🤔......

Yeah, you said that, and other points, “earlier” a million times. Say it once and move on.

The fact that you harp on and on in this thread shows some serious desperation. Great, you think it looks like ass. Point taken. When you’re dead, I’m sure your relatives will be so proud of this crusade in which you took part.

I was out and got mentioned by someone else.

Go blame them for dragging me back in here. Or just put me on ignore.
