I admire Star Wars fans' crazed devotion to the series, but it's also kind of sad now that the movies have gotten bad lol. I remember when Triumph did this:
They were all pretty good sports about it, but I mean, what choice did they really have? They know they're super dorks, but they wear that shit like a badge of honor.
I wouldn't be surprised if the initial plan was to turn Rey to the dark side and have Kylo Ren redeem himself by pulling her back to the light.
Then once the "cultural" reaction to Rey really got going they realized that turning her evil would have gotten them tons of backlash.
I'd love to know to what extent the content of episodes 8 and 9 was influenced by "The Culture War" as it seems like the producers and directors etc went out of their way to obviously pick a side in this fake online battle.
Even small things like Hux going from an evil Space Nazi in Ep7 to basically a bit of a clown and a joke character in Ep8 seems in line with then not wanting to show "a Nazi" as actually having "power" on a cinema screen in 2017. Unfortunately, this means he is no longer a credible threat to anyone.
As we've seen with Joker, the idea of putting a legit villain on screen will draw harsh criticism if certain people feel the portrayal is "glorifying" or "problematic". I reckon that if Kylo Ren had bested Rey in TLJ then there would have been PLENTY of criticism there. Is it irresponsible for a movie in current year to show a man getting the better of a woman?
So they will fight for a bit and then they will team up to beat the emperor and then Kylo Ren will probably die and that's it.
Rey will take on the name of "Skywalker" and they all lived happily ever after.
They should have never done a sequel trilogy.

Probably just the fact that fake, over the top, reactions to movie trailers is a decent way to "go viral" these days.
As far as content goes it's just pure cringeworthy shite but there is an audience that just gobbles that shite up.
It's just like E3 or Nintendo Direct. Fake people making fake reactions to trailers and announcements. That's what we've become.
No doubt that when I saw trailers for stuff like Star Wars prequels and Lord of the Rings back in the day I was thinking "holy shit I can't wait to see that".

it all feels so dour and portentuous. the slow Star Wars music. the miserable rainy DS ruins. you can just feel the lack of imagination. they have nothing to offer but rummaging around the ruins of 40yo films.
once again im very disappointed in the set design. a bunch of Earth looking places, a bunch of SW looking places, and then there is the generic as hell things like this
like what is she standing on? it looks like the floor of a film studio. where is the art design? props i guess for not ripping off Lucas here but a featureless colorless plain with a bunch of scratches in it.... not doing it for me!
then again people were "amazed" with Crait and that was a similar featureless plain w a bunch of mountains pasted in the bg. it's all just so uninspired...

if this was ep 2 of the trilogy, maybe i would see it in a theater. but it isn't, TLJ did a lot to waste my time and make me not care for any of the new characters or the old ones. it proved the series is not in good hands, something TFA was able to hide.
then again, it's the Death Star again, LOL, maybe i would not have seen it and just clowned on JJ for doing that again. that was my big pain coming out of TFA, they went with another Death Star. and here is another another Death Star.

Looks OK I guess but I don't give a crap about any of these characters or their story. There has been no fun cohesive plot to follow, unlike Episode VI and III this doesn't feel like some sort of big conclusion they have been building towards, there's no "The final showdown between Luke and Vader/Emperor as well as Rebels vs Empire" no "Finally Anakin turns evil, the jedi fall and we get the final showdown with Obi-Wan"...... this is just another movie that exists because they already said it was 3 and it's too late to cancel the whole thing..... the fact they are introducing the "real" villain in the third movie AND it's the same dude from the old movies is proof enough

Yeah, not really feeling it. I also wish this was episode 8 not 9. TLJ has killed it. I'm interested to see what they do to wrap it up, but I think I'm going to have to treat this sequel trilogy the same way as the prequels - completely ignore them.

yeah it's a shame, anyone not named Kylo Ren or Rey is a side character. they had 3 heroes and only 1 of them matter now.
does it matter? Emperor is in here and he's been dead for 40 years. Luke is talking here and he died in the last film. it's not like being dead means anything.

It's JJ, as if he has other ideas beyond recycling stuff from the old movies.
The safe bet is that toward the end Kylo will turn good and sacrifice himself to kill the Emperor (either directly or at least making an opening for Rey to finish the job because there's nothing Rey can't do and she won't allow some man to get the killing blow)
It really is. And as an ex storm trooper he also had the most interesting character setup but they pretty much did nothing with it

Rey's makeup is weird and off or something, like her forehead is too shiny. the hairdo is kind of ugly. also she also seems like she is still confused about her place in all this, which is just really tired. she is just a stock standard Chosen One only with a "villain is your father" twist. LOL at the first part of this showing us her training sequence that TLJ denied. haha retcons away!
Kylo is just full on pout mode, looking as miserable as ever. i don't care for this whiny, miserable murderer. it is not a deep character. it is repetitive as fuck. at least Vader had to switch it up from situation to situation, person to person. he is always full on Pathetic Affluenza Creep. maybe he should have kept the mask on the whole time.
Rose looks bad character design wise.
