Best thing about casual?

When you are 40min in a mission and a dude dies from 1% critical and you don't feel mad.

I already have enough gray hair as it is these days.

Ugh, screw this. I'm starting over on Normal/Classic. I must be a damn idiot or Fire Emblem difficulty is super fucked.

EDIT: Is there any way to default all battle animations to the sped up versions? Holding down A every time is really annoying.

Going to have to bench Vaike and Donnel since those guys keep trying to play the "who can die first" game because they can't take a hit in hard mode. Sully and Stahl haven't been doing that well either.

At least my Lon'qu and Cordelia pair have been doing wonders and next chapter I get Tharja, so my Mark can now lay off the bromance with Chrom for awhile.

What exactly is your trouble? There's a jump in difficulty early on for Hard and you're left without good grinding options (the early Risen encounters are like ... Level 10 when you're around 6ish).

Frederick alone gets you through a lot. Pair him with someone just for the STR/DEF stat boost and possibly do the same with Kellam. Create choke points and play defensively.

Edit: If all else fails, you can grind a little bit on the first DLC Chapter. It's fairly easy and the enemies kind of sit around / feed themselves to the AI. Don't be put off by the levels. Plus, free loot from the villages end up being nice stuff sometimes.

I want to use say, Sumia, but there are always archers within range. Some characters like Sully or Virion do 3-4 damage to every unit, seemingly for no reason. I just played the first Spotpass map, on the map with the bridge, took maybe 30 minutes of characters hiding behind Fred and Kellam and having people shoot from behind them, boring as hell. Pairing Lissa up works great to keep her safe, but then anytime I'd need to actually heal someone, they're near the front and doing so puts her in danger of a one or two hit KO by the front enemy line. All skirmishes I have available save for the first Spotpass (and only the one on the bridge map) have me surrounded in two turns. The only way I can keep some of my weaker guys alive is by pairing them up, but then I have half the turns because everyone is paired and the enemies swarm me. Add to that I am constantly finding that whoops, I moved a single square too far forward, and 4 enemies run into attack range and kill someone like Sully who doesn't seem to be good for anything.

I'm playing this game on Hard/Casual , its got the "Just right" difficulty for me. Reloading my save to make sure units didn't die was always something that pissed me off. I have no idea how I was able to finish Radiant Dawn because that game got hard as shit towards the end.

You can see the range of all enemy units by clicking on each individual unit. If you're careful you can usually get away with fighting only one or two at a time and controlling who they attack.

How? As soon as you move into the attack range of a single member of a group, they all rush you, if the entire stage wasn't rushing you already.

Also the music in this game is Kid Icarus Uprising levels of awesome. FE has always had good music, but this one just blows the rest of the series out of the water. One of my favorite tracks is the free battle music.

Yup. Oh and playing on hard/classic, whats the best way to level up healers?

You can try a bit of un-moving boss abuse. Remove weapon from a character who won't die from a boss, make him stand in front of it, repeat healing. There are quite a few bosses who do not move throughout the game.

Ah alright for now focus on a small group of units press the x button to find the entire area the enemy will move in as it will help you plan your attacks better

Pair up units that benefit the unit for example giving silly Fredrick as a partner or even vaike will give silly a bit of a boost for Sumia partner her up with Fred or chrom or the main character as they generall give good boosts to train archers and mages send them in when u have cleared a good chunk of enemies and they can are safe from harm but are able to get a kill or weakened enemies

Your healer is very important however always keep them in the back and only bring them out if they can be safe
If u have the cash serras spot pass shop sells physics so use them when Lisa can

If your units are hurting its okay to use a vulnerably or a concoction as it will keep your units alive

I hope this helps :)

Morgan on my playthrough has been amazing. Easily my best unit now at Chapter 18. She can barely be touched, has good defenses, has 9 movement (+1 move from her mom and Boots), and doubles basically everything.

Heal for the most minute of damages at every opportunity.

It's so easy to level up Clerics. I had mine to level 20 before anyone else was in their teens.

Ironically, I find Sumia really amazing at taking out Archers. Given that she can get to them freely, anyway. If it helps, pair her up with, say, Chrom and rush to an Archer with her mobility; you can swap to Chrom before attacking so you have his better defensive stats going into the next turn (+ not being weak to Bows).

Generally speaking, pairing up, say, Frederick with someone means having that unit still leading; for instance, Chrom + Frederick means you still have Chrom on the field, Frederick is just there for the +Stat boost to the unit (and potentially saving the day with Dual Strike). You're not using Frederick to run in there and kill things and hoping Dual Strike activates to get EXP for the person tagging along.

Some characters like Sully or Virion do 3-4 damage to every unit, seemingly for no reason.

I know this feel. My Stahl and Sully were useless for so long. Virion less so but I fed him kills until he got enough STR to actually do something.

Have you tried the first DLC Map? Champions of Yore I. It's free until March so you might as well grab it. Enemies there are around Level 7-8, if I recall, and, like I said, the AI Heroes you get will weaken a bunch of units / kill off a few before dying and then the rest of the map sits patiently until you get in range.

The skirmishes with Risen tend to just throw themselves at you at the start which makes it quite hard to use them to grind early on.

Pairing Lissa up works great to keep her safe, but then anytime I'd need to actually heal someone, they're near the front and doing so puts her in danger of a one or two hit KO by the front enemy line.

I can't find a good reason to pair Lissa up. Good positioning keeps her safe enough and unpaired means you're not "wasting" a person on her.

All skirmishes I have available save for the first Spotpass (and only the one on the bridge map) have me surrounded in two turns.

Yeah, the early skirmishes are rough on Hard. A level advantage and better equipment. ;_;

yeah pretty much heal anything, heck heal the 1 hp a unit gets when they lvl up lol.

Whats the best way to lvl up weapons abilities? Does using higher class weapons increase the boost, or should i just give everyone bronze weapons so they can attack twice (otherwise they kill in 1 turn).

Thank you very much for your post. Is Normal really that much easier? I only played the first 2 chapters and they were dirt easy, while chapter 2 on in Hard has me tearing my hair out. Would Normal/Classic be a decent way to learn the game and then I can jump back in on Hard/Classic?

What does saving all the villagers in Paralouge 3 get you? The stupid AI keeps suiciding even though I have them at complete safety. I've managed to save one, is it worth going back to save the others?

Sure, it's easier to learn on Normal because your mistakes cost you much less. I find the harder difficulties are tougher in the beginning because your units are pretty basic and you're not wielding good weapons. So even though enemies get tougher later on, you're really outpacing them.

Just items. I saved all three (Rescue Wand + fast units), but for the life of me I can't remember what items they were. Nothing worth pulling your hair out over.

One gets you a Seraph Robe. The other two gets you meaningless weapons [Log/Twig, IIRC].

As long as you save one, that's really all that matters.

What is the difference between difficulties in FE games? Like are the numbers in the background different, or are the enemies just higher level/better gear?

That's wierd. I've only saved one but I got both the seraph robe and a log. Oh well, not putting myself through that again if it's not worth it. Thanks!

Yeah, I wanted be a manly man, so I'm doing Classic, but yeah, the Casual Mode really is a boon. I mean, really Classic -- the way most of us tend to play it -- is the same thing but with the repetition of having redo battles over and over so that you don't lose anyone. It's unfortunate that the word "casual" has such a stigma attached to it in gaming discussion.

One gave me an Angelic Robe. The other two gave me a frying pan and a log.

Yeah, I saved one and got a Seraph Robe and Log, as well. I was under the impression that you needed to save two for two items.

But it still stands. The Seraph Robe is the most important item, so focus on saving one and if a few die in the process...SO BE IT!

Edit - Or was it an Angelic Robe? I am confident it was a robe.

I honestly couldn't tell you. I started straight on Hard. My gut feeling would say that Normal would help you learn how to use the mechanics (just by virtue of more time spent using them) but they won't be necessary so how valuable they are won't really hit home from the enemies.

But, yeah, Chapter 5+ is where Hard kind of sucks if you're not ready for it. At least as far as the early game is concerned.

What is the difference between difficulties in FE games? Like are the numbers in the background different, or are the enemies just higher level/better gear?

Numbers, AI, Enemy count, Lunatic+ has new skills as well I believe.

Awakening's Reclassing also has a difficulty counter attached to it. Basically, the game remembers half of your levels when you reclass (e.g., Reclass at 20 and it still remembers +10 of them) when determining the EXP you gain from an enemy; this counter doesn't reset and just keeps incrementing with each Reclassing you do. It does cap, however: +20 for Normal, +30 for Hard, and +50 for Lunatic (and I think the same cap for +?). So you'll get less and less EXP per action as you Reclass more and more on the harder difficulties.

Guys, in case you're thinking those E-ranked weapons with 1 Mt you're finding are worthless, try forging them. I just forged the Slack Bow for Donny (just promoted to Bow Knight) and it cost me only 1000G. They're AMAZINGLY cheap.

Whoa, I was just running through the DLC to get some units caught up, and lo and behold, a shop actually has some Master Seals.

I bought one, but I didn't use it yet. There seems to be a lot more conflicting reports about waiting to promote this time around (although, the consensus seems that for reclassing purposes, reclassing, getting the skill, and then do something else seems to be acceptable). Regardless, I made two saves just for this occasion.

Although, the FE fan in me wants to just level everyone up to 20 anyway, and deal with the slower EXP growth later.

don't they barely have any uses?

btw: outside of taking out flying guys good, what other benefits are there for bowmen over mages whom have wind magic which is good against flying dudes?

Are there 'longbows' with more than 2 space range in this?

How do you marry people? I'm at chapter 13 and haven't seen an option before.

Is it just 'pair up with a character a ton of times, and the option will end up happening in support'?

I have the same problem. basically I've only been upgrading either when someone hits 20, or if they've been a bit under-powered (or if they hit hard and have no defenses) and needed a boost.

You can upgrade Archers into Bow Knights, so not only do they get swords to make up for that dead zone where they can't attack, but they get more movement than a Mage.

How do you get more weapons for people? Stahl just broke his Iron Sword and I don't see any more in my inventory. Should I buy him a new one? I only have 5000 G from the start of the game and I'm on chapter 6; how do I get more gold?

Risen maps give a bit if gold
Only buy more for stahl if there is no other weapon to use

All I have is Bronze weapons and named stuff. I've been fighting Risen a few times outside of the story but still have only 5000 g?

Just spend the money as you need to. You'll get bullion that you can sell if you need cash.

Have you sold any of the bullions that you sometimes find from enemies. They are the main way of making money.

If you fought Risen on the World Map, they should have dropped items called a "Bullion". They come in Small, Medium, and Large, and each sell for different amount [Small = 1000 Gold, Medium = 5000 Gold, Large = 10000 Gold].

Check your Inventory/Convoy, chances are you have some to sell!

Bows deal physical damage, better for taking out enemy mages than your own mages.

I'm glad that I don't find myself wanting to pass down Galeforce to everything.. yet. Grinding for skills so far seems unnecessary. I'm sure the harder DLC will provide a better reason for doing it.
