That is just one example. It really doesn't look like that at my local theater. If it did, believe me, I would not be going back
Wonder Woman and Mad Max Fury Road are movies that had embargoes moved up.

It's about half that bad here, which is still terrible.
If anybody bought a premium television and it had a red cast on the bottom corners and lower third of the screen they'd take it back; I expect no less from a premium movie screening.

The fuck is that? I regularly go to a Dolby Cinema @ AMC and have never noticed the red. The picture and sound is excellent, to the point where i'll take it over even IMAX unless the movie was specifically shot for that format.
Don't think it's typical.

Dolby Cinema was made to have the least amount of light in the room as possible. Their goal when they opened the first one in the Netherlands in 2014 was to make a screening room thats almost pitch black during a showing.
They even got rid of the emergency escape signs which caused them huge issues. Actually this point in their mandates is still preventing them from opening any Dolby Cinema screens here in Germany because we need to have the emergency signs on and clearly visible by law.
Ive been in the first DC shortly after it opened and it was incredible. There was zero light in the room except the one coming from the screen.
Everything was also cast in a light blue tone before the trailers started and Im pretty sure thats their original branding for it because blue has always been Dolbys color.
Too bad some AMC theaters seem like they just dont give a shit and just see it as a way to make some additional bucks on a ticket.

I saw this on a plane while ago and I was as glad seeing it as I was furious that I didn't go to cinema and instead watched it with plane noise bleeding through my headphones and from small low-res screen.

This is pretty exciting news. I won't be watching it in Atmos at the theater though, I will be watching it in my home in Atmos instead with the lighting or lack of lighting of my choice! I've been waiting to buy the new 4k release of Blade Runner and this is causing me to want to buy it sooner.
These are left on and it adds up to a red flashlight.
That's bizarre. The cinemas here in the UK basically have no lights on the floor when the movie is on.

Ok, I watched it. Fantastic movie. If he delivers with Blade Runner, he is there with GOATlan as the new directors to lead us to the promise land from this century.
Though I did see that Annihilation trailer from the guy that made Ex-Machina and.. I'm very intrigued how he will do as the new big director.

Any red light on the screen is bullshit though. Light spill is barely acceptable in a normal stadium, it should be completely unacceptable in a premium one.
The comparison above is a great one. If you bought even a cheap entry level panel for your house and the lower corners had a light red cast on them no matter what you would return that shit with the quickness and like 15 other people would hit the thread calling for the manufacturer to eat a class action.
But for some reason "a little red light on the bottom of the screen is no big deal" at 20+ a pop for a single ticket in a room designed to compete with IMAX for visual impressiveness.

Heh. Google "Dolby Cinema Red Problem" and you'll find dozens of people affected by the problem everywhere from Home Theater Forum to AVS and film projectionists forums, along with regular movie fans. Other similar searches will reveal other observations.
First of all, there shouldn't be a red light effect on the screen period, second of all it's a major problem in many installations.
Have you been to any of these theaters? That picture is complete hyperbole in my experience. It does not remotely look like that. Like do you really believe the theater looks like that? That there is a massive red haze on the sides of the screen? That it's so obtrusive that it literally effects the screen that strongly? That only enthusiasts would have recognized this pheneomon? I'm pretty picky myself when it comes to exhibition quality. It simply does not look like that. And I certainly would not recommend that someone actively avoid all Dolby Cinema auditoriums because of a phot someone took with their camera

I'm also going off your earlier post that the one you go to also has a red cast (not as pronounced) at the bottom of the screen.
Any red cast caused by the floor lighting on the screen at a Dolby Cinema screen should not be there. That should not be happening. That shouldn't be happening at a basic ass, 17 year old at his first job runs the whole multiplex dirt theater.
And it usually doesn't.
It's why I was so shocked/surprised by the photos when they initially got posted.

You can assume that it's some sort of weird fuckup at that one theater, you can assume there are similar variations on this particular theme (one you contributed yourself) or you can assume, as you're doing now, this is part of some weird conspiracy to damage the Dolby Cinema brand for ???
I agree with you that there shouldn't be any light bleeding onto the screen 100%. All I'm saying is bro look at the picture! Not a conspiracy, typical internet hyperbole.

Should have automation cues set up that communicate with the lighting system and notifies when to raise / lower the brightness.
The Dolby auditorium by my place turns the overhead lights off completely when the trailers begin so there is no red glare.
I will say AMC has a continuous presentation issue and I believe its because their wall lights are too close to the screen. In small auditoriums the wall lights wash out the screen even when relatively dim.

I don't understand. How can a picture be hyperbole? Do you think the picture was doctored? It seems that the picture is accurate to, at the very least, that theater-goer's experience. What makes it hyperbole?

The Cineplex VIP theatres in Toronto tend to leave the lights on during trailers so the servers can bring food and drinks to people before the film starts - and even that bugs me.
I'm saying it is not an accurate representation of the Dolby Cinema theater I've been to locally. And I doubt its representative if most. Lets just leave it at that.
I've been there to see a few movies this summer and it's honestly one of the best theater experiences I've ever had. I wouldn't swear off Dolby Cinema because of a pic someone posted on the internet. It will probably be one of the better ways to see Blade Runner

You didn't have to pursue this weird "FUD" theory where people were basically lying/exaggerating for ??? gain.
That said: If your Dolby Cinema experience includes a red cast at the bottom of the screen at all you need to point that out to the people at the theater/Dolby, because that shit should not be happening.
Nobody should be put off of Dolby Cinema because of that picture, because that just cannot be the norm. If your theater has something similar, do what Bobby says and make a complaint and get a refund. No harm done.

Since 2015 I've found that the cloud of "cinema blasphemy" stopping fans from venturing into that territory is a lot thinner than previously thought.
Basically - there's no reason not to believe people now could actually do things better than people then did. Blade Runner grew its legend, but that doesn't mean Villeneuve/Deakins/Green/Fancher can't blow right past it in the first week.

Exactly and it's not like the idea of 2049 somehow being a better film than its predecessor would ever actually diminish how utterly revolutionary the original film was either. It just means that we'd have a duo of films that are insanely great movies.
I mean, cinema is an artform that's still essentially in its infancy when compared to the other arts. Is it really a good idea to think that the best of what film has to offer is already behind us and that the filmmakers of today and the future can't potentially do better?

I hadn't heard of Denis Villeneuve until this week, except in the very vague sense that I knew there was a new Blade Runner film on the way and it would not be directed by Ridley Scott.
If this film lives up to its very strong online prerelease buzz, I don't think I'm the only one looking forward to tracking down his other films and watching every single one.
