First Castlevania DS scans

Not sure if I can post these scans but people do it all the time - I'll delete them again if it's against the rules.

Enjoy :)

Sarry kids. no american mag scans!

Yeah, I saw those in EGM. I'd take them down.

It does look pretty nice, though, but I know I'll never get to play it. :\ That's the first DS game I'm actually interested in. I couldn't care less about every other announced title.

This, and the Square-Enix games (that'll hopefully turn out interesting) are making me interested.

Casting spells with the stylus looks like a good idea, I was hoping they would make better use of the second screen than to just display a map.

Instead of pentagrams it would be neat if you had to draw words. You could learn japanese while playing games. Drawing of the (un)Dead!

Aria of Sorrow sprite rehash - check
Aria of Sorrow engine rehash - check
Aria of Sorrow retardedplot rehash - check
Dumb retarded gimmicky use of touch screen - check
Poorly thought out slap-it-on use of the dual screens - check

Glad to see Iga is following Nintendo's "awesome" example when it comes to making DS games. I expect no less from the assclown himself! :lol

Try that again after you actually successfully show how what I said is not true. :D

Looks neat, but I wish the main character sprite was a bit more detailed... Also can someone explain to me how casting spells with the touchscreen works?

The only truth is that is your "opinion". There are people there that doen´t think the story of Aria is retarded or that doen´t think in 2D in terms of "engines". My opinion is that calling "assclown" to anyone doen´t show very much of that person, if you want to hear it.

Actually, in a game as a Castlevania I really appreciate the map. For other games it could be stupid, but I will enjoy not habing to change the screen.

I love how it looks, rich 2D grahicps with bigger sprites. Hope Ds keeps going the 2D route this way.

Those aren't spells, not really anyway. After fighting a boss and and "defeating" it, you have to watch a pentagram form and then use the stylus to do it the same way after. If you succeed, the boss dies. If you fail, it regains some health and the fight continues.

I'm not getting into the fight about this looking like Aria of Sorrow again, go into the EGM scores thread if you want to see how wrong you are.

It would have been ultra cool if you could switch the gameplay to the top screen (screw casting spells with touching) and be able to toggle between the map, and inventory screen(s) on the lower screen, equipping and using items by touching/dragging them.

They could still use a touch-capable inventory system with the current setup though.

We've played it four times already

I think scans of screens from magazines are allowed. Just crop the images to remove all text and page layout.

crazy u_neek. There is a reason why people were asking for PMs of the scans. :O

what's with the haters for this game? Cause its on DS? Because AOS was fucking great. lamers. Looks cool and should play great.

I don't think having a constant view of the map is a "lame" use of the second screen. For most games, yeah, but I'll give Castlevania and Metroid passes on that.

How does this sell people on the DS?

Top Screen for Map
Draw shapes to defeat bosses
GBA quality graphics
I just don't understand

Exactly my thoughts, though it looks no better/ worse than the GBA offerings. Which isn't a bad thing, it's just not as cool as it could be.

Kinda sucks that the main action occurs on the DS's lower-quality (and quite likely scratched-up) lower screen. This might be a new trend to hate on.

Looks swell otherwise, if probably more of the same. I'm glad they brought Soma back instead of making yet another protagonist. That kid can wear impractical, flamboyant coats like few others.

Perhaps it's due to the fact that innovation and creativity isn't exactly something you can crack open a jar of? Face it, not every game is going to sport revolutionary uses of the DS' capabilities. The sooner people realise this, and deal with it, the better.

Also, last I checked Konami's primary concern is to sell their own games, and not the platform on which they run.

Because this game could be much more than just Aria with a map on one of the screens and a pointless "Touch!" gimmick, but we're having doubts from what we're seeing

What does Capcom have to do with this

You guys haven't read the article, stop assuming screens show it all. They're also going to use the DS's wireless capabilities to trade custom maps (!) and souls. They're also considering a multiplayer of some form.

As for it looking as good as SOTN...it does. IGA himself mentions in the article that the DS has superior 2D capabilities to the PSX.

Honestly, gamers' memories just suck. Either that or they don't understand that every single pic posted here is blown up beyond the actual size of the DS's screen.

Another one?

After Gradius V, Astro Boy etc. I have faith to believe that Treasure could deliver something beyond IGA's rehashes, perhaps add a bit of challenge too?

But nooooo, more metroid clones ;_;

Oh and if anyone's worried about another castle only title, there's some hope it won't be. While you can't see it in this thread anymore, there's a screen showing an outdoor environment in the snow.

I suppose this could just be a small build up to the castle perhaps, but the way the screen is laid out makes it look like more than that to me.

And for those who have the scans, I think if you look in the small image (pasted onto a DS), you can see a boss fight in the snow, which suggests it's a larger area. Or if not a boss, a large enemy.

Looks like a SP game with stupid touch screen functionality, it will be awesome fun though since I love castlevania but I expected something different for the DS.
