Would she have clicked with you if they went with this art style instead? Would that have charmed you?

Hipster archers are the best.

Perhaps we should esteem your opinion, (which is void, since you have not played Zero Dawn) over his, who has played it.....makes sense right ;) SMH...

I'm pretty sure, if his opinion was Zero Dawn's story is absolute shit, his opinion should be lauded amirite?

Who cares if the second part of your post is true, why can't they show a bit of skepticism?

I definitely agree to a point, though I don't see myself disliking it when I eventually end up playing it later in the year. My highly subjective opinion is that the vibes could be stronger. If the game is wasn't as technically good as this seems to be the 'feeling' wouldn't be part of the equation so that's not a slight on the game itself, just my feelings towards it. Though maybe I'm just a weaboo because Overwatch was the only game that I loved the 'feeling' of last year.

For me, everything seems great but the more I look at it the more I feel like "eh". I mean it wasn't like the feeling I got playing DA or Skyrim for example (which was amazing ), I don't know, I hope I am wrong.

Its not about her character design, its more of how she comes off as a character to me. She's like .. so boring in every scene I saw her in. I know its early to judge and all, but that's just my impression of her from videos/streams. I really really hope I am proven wrong since I am planning to get the game anyway (massive RPG fan here).

The only thing I have against her is that if she is running around talking to herself all the time throughout the whole game I will sooner or later get extremly tired of her.

Let me answer on that one , If i have skepticism , i will check the link and the guy we are talking about and than post whether if its genuine or not. Its obvious the comment is made without even checking the Link. Nothing wrong with Skepticism but atleast try to do some research before posting.
Also the person has not responded after it , so let it go i guess.

Yeah this is something I want to know about, because if it's like the E3 demos throughout the entire thing that "Voice" volume slider is going down for general gameplay.

Yeah, it's not a big deal but the defensiveness is irritating. I've done it in the past and you often get clouded by pre-conceptions that make things overly blunt.

That's a very fair criticism that I was also worried about prior to the impressions. I can't say how you'll feel about her in the end but the impressions combined with the intro video made me more confident in her character. There's stuff there that just really hasn't been shown to the public in a meaningful way.

I imagine it's a case where you have to allow the game to properly set up her character. At least, that's the impression I'm getting from people currently playing the game.

She is narrating something as she herself experience the things for first time , But its all silenced when you are in combat or in previous areas. But yeah she is talking but not like "let me get two fire traps" i hope this helps.

This. They got the feedback after the first trailer and made her talk less, but then once again, in recent footage, she's narrating nearly every single action she's doing.
Really tiring.

I think you haven't watched much of the footage and i have explained in my above post.

Ah, that should be fine then. I was worried that lines would repeat over and over.

Predicting metascores is like this gen's nervous twitching the way E3 used to be when exclusives existed

Do leaked copies streams count?
She's really talking a lot more than your average video game character narrating its life (not counting Deadpool-like characters and VNs for obvious reasons).

I won't lie, part of that had to do with Witcher's combat. Like FFXV and GR2 are recent games I played where I ended up putting up far, far more than 50+ hours in each of them. Yet I beat them within weeks, because well... I found it more enjoyable to play generally speaking.

It's weird how the nuances of combat systems can make or break someone's experience with a game... RPG's in particular. I loved the dragon age games excluding 2, loved skyrim, hated FF15 and have a "eh, it's fine" feeling for Witcher 3 in terms of their combat. Now that I'm thinking of it, those feelings really altered how much of those games I've played.

I've played much more skyrim that Witcher 3, yet Witcher 3 is a much better game in almost every aspect when compared to Skyrim, barring its somewhat odd-feeling combat, love of AOE attacks and somewhat vague, busy crafting systems/menus.

I think this will be a day 2 purchase for me. If I hear a generally positive consensus and no major technical issues, I'll grab a copy.

Oh yeah, this is a Dutch game, wonder how the Dutch will score it :P

Not that much comes out of Australia, but fuuuuuck borderlands: the prequel. I think the most popular game to come out of this country is fruit ninja FFS. Patriotism isn't really a thing with games, I don't think.

she talks just enough. I don't think she's overly crazy chatty. Just environmental comments and things that don't detract too much.

Someone should compare her to Nathan Drake. I recall him being fairly chatty I think, even with no one around.

I'm about dunno 20 hours in? It's a fine fine fine game. You'll have a lot of fun with it. It really is one of the best games I've played in a while. The quality just shines out of it.

Sounds great, thanks for the input. Have copies leaked en mass? Or are most people using streams as a point of reference?

That i already explained , yes she is talking , but she is not narrating every single actions she be doing . For ex.

Boss battle comes up , she says something like,
"Well time to place some traps"

But after you are in combat there is not much talking, like
"time to get another trap or let me fire another arrow to the knee"

I am particularly talking about the video slasher and lamp posted. again if she is experiencing a new place , she is talkative more than other characters that we known of so far in games, so that might be a problem to someone.

There wasn't anything in there about performance or mechanics... not really what I want out of a review but I am excited about the game!

my copy came via playstation australia. Not leaked.

My first sitting to play the games was easily 10-12 hours and I played about 10 hours in 2 sittings today.

It's hard to put down. The world. Hnngggh!

First reviewer hides behind a "no-score"? Heh.

They hide the score in the text but don't want to flat-out display a score number. Not a good sign.

Fucking cowards.

First they enact a score-less review policy, forcing people to read words and think critically.

Then they write a "glowing" "review" "effusive" with "praise" but refuse to make exception to their review policy by giving Horizon a score -- the only metric by which one's thoughts on a game can be measured -- thereby hiding behind a "no score".

Not a good sign.

Oh, cool cool. Thanks for the info dude, it's appreciated!

I think scores are basically worthless anyway lol. You get more from how people describe sound design, level design, character depth or any other factor than if it's a 4/5 or some shit.

Again, I know that, I've seen quite a bit of footage.
She still feels really overly chatty for me. If she was talking even more, I probably wouldn't even think of getting the game tbh.

It's less Drake and more Geralt I feel.

In terms of tone, yeah. In terms of time, closer to the former.

The review score is the highest point of criticism. It lets gamers know immediately what kind-of game they are dealing with. To replace a score with words is obfuscation and time wasting. I do agree that the words, like you've written, are indeed the highest explanation of criticism.

Um, no. Just stop.

Is this serious?

The words explain things far better than a number can. You know, an explanation of what the reviewer thought. It isn't hiding anything. It is putting the reviewers thoughts at the forefront.
