First reactions to Jurassic World appear

The CG itself looks good, better than the original CG for the most part.

The problem is the entire movie looks fake, like every scene has CG elements and color filter applied to it that give it such an artificial look. It's a case of way too much CG being used too liberally. Past JP's used it when needed, it didn't seem like every stunt and scene was touched up like the trailers here make it look

that "sense of wonder" spiel has never worked on me. sense of wonder over what? two terrible looking cgi brachiosauruses? T Rex introduction is certainly better in JP but id argue Lost World does big set pieces better.

InGen dino capture/stampede is great.
returning the baby T Rex is great.
nighttime camp scene ending with the bloody waterfall is great.

gymnastics are great.
you guys are such troglodytes.

I saw Lost World yesterday and I still love it right up to the gymnastics part. After that it's awful but the first hour and a half are great.

Now this is something I can get behind.

The CG ain't bad, I don't think, but it doesn't come off very real. Maybe it's the colors? I dunno.

But again, it's not bad CG.

I'm just hoping that good kind of cognitive dissonance takes hold, where I know what I'm watching isn't real but I'm still fully invested.

Like the new Planet of the Apes movies. There are times where I'm like "that is definitely CG and I am aware of it" and other times where I can't believe what I'm seeing. I think it works because it has a great story and characters backing it up, which I can only hope for here, as well.

The best.

Source? Scream is from TLW and Goldblum is from.. ?

I liked Lost World. :| Though I like the first one more.

But anyway, I can't wait to watch Jurassic World surely it can't be worse that Jurassic Park III.

yeah my expectations are >> jurassic park 3. i honestly don't think it can top the lost world though but we'll see, would be nice to be pleasantly surprised.

From where I'm standing there's absolutely no way it's worse than TLW. The gifs above, the gymnastics kick, the entire climax sucking balls... nah dude they'd have to be on a mission to make something shittier.

pete postlethwaite tho...dude was so good.

raptors running with pratt is gonna be the gymnastics-kick of this movie. believe that.

I honestly think Jurassic Park 3 is better than Lost World, though I haven't seen Lost World in a while.

While Lost World tried to be like JP and Failed, it just felt like 3 was just trying to be as schlock "Dinosaur action Syfy original movie" as possible, which I enjoy more.

Lol, reviewing clips from The Lost World on Youtube I saw a standee for a movie version of King Lear starring Arnold Schwarzenegger

I don't think it looks horrible, but it also doesn't look real in the least.

To be fair, CGI almost never looks good in still images.

I think the problem here is that Jurassic World aspires to show us not only the "whole park experience" (something that would've never been possible when the first or second released due to tech limits), but a futuristic version to boot, both of which we've never seen before in any capacity.

Essentially, the film has to be far more CGI to show the scale and tell the story they want. So it's a lot more difficult to be immersed in that at times because CGI is a necessity, but at times it's very obvious making that suspension of belief harder.

So again, it looks fake at times, but it's because it's so ambitious in what it's doing. Hell must be cold today because I just payed this movie a compliment.

Charm is Jurassic Park, dude.

Yeah, that is true, but as mentioned I associate charm with being like a dismissive thing. To me it indicates lower expectations, but that's due to my personal interpretation of it obviously.

Someone link to the Amazing Spider-Man 2 first reactions thread, where all the previews were oddly positive.

You know I thought the exact same thing when these reactions were brought to my attention.

But I hope to God that JW isn't anywhere near as offensive, stupid, and poorly structured as TASM2. And I think the director has a better group of people surrounding him for me to think that it can't possibly be as bad.

Yup. It's just nice to see some positivity around JW, considering the hate brigade that wants it to fail (see: this thread).

I hope it does great. I've avoided spoiler territory, and my comment before regarding the CGI is my main concern. But I have high hopes for the story.

I think because I ended up watching the trilogy backwards over a series of years from when I was 14 is how I manage to find enjoyment out of all of them and have no regrets in buying the blu-ray collection with T. Rex statue

Spinosaurus is still badass.
The Lost World gets far too much hate.
Jurassic Park is the GOAT (hah).

I will line up early, I will watch it, I will enjoy it, I will laugh at Chris Pratt's childish antics in the events prior to the park going Pterodactylshit crazy, and I will cheer when the OG Rex from the first movie saves the day, because dammit all I cheer for her every damn time

Is using CGI cheaper than making robots or whatever technique they used in the original JP?

The dinosaurs in the original JP still look better than some of the CGI in movies today.

The vast majority of JW is CG, but there were animatronics/puppets built--just not sure how many/where. We know there is an I-Rex upper body, a apato head, and they at least build the four raptor heads--someone from the screening claimed they built the entire models, as well. The raptors were all "acted" by human beings wearing raptor heads, so there technically was "someone there" to act against, at least for some of the scenes.

Ironically, the shot you posted was CG in the film--that still is just a promo shot. Puppets/animatronics were used extensively during that scene, of course.

I highly doubt anyone WANTS the film to fail. I'd wager the opposite - seems to me like people want to like the movie but the film is making it hard.

Will be the worst movie anyone has ever seen and will have GAF foaming at the mouth with its CG that isn't even as good as the original film.

The new TV spots and clips look good and the CGI is worlds apart from the teaser shots, but it still feels like most of the negativity is coming from that admittedly shoddy teaser. The Claire and Owen clip was a weird out of context clip to release as a first look with temp music as well, but the newer clips I feel are better and more representative of the movie.

First impressions can truly be a bitch, but the movie is looking way better than what the teaser promised. Most of the footage in the teaser seemed to be made for the promo website as well. I'm not saying these people are going to like the movie, but it's looking way better than it did in November.

Is any of the original cast appearing in this movie?

BD Wong who played Henry Wu.

25% say it is the worst sequel. 0% say it is as good as or better than the original. This is no Toy Story series.

I agree. I for one think it looks pretty good and at worst feel like it'll be a decent popcorn flick. Admittedly I haven't followed production much and the last trailer I remember seeing is the one they made during the Super Bowl. Been on a media blackout of sorts.
