I bought a lot of the samples and while Chocolate Mint was good my fav still has to be vanilla! Just for the fact that it actually tastes decent AND it mixes well with everything. You can mix fruits with it, peanut buttter (and whatever other fats you want), put it in your cereal/oatmeal etc. basically vanilla goes with so many things and is really versatile, whereas Chocolate Mint, atleast for me only goes well just straight with milk nothing else.

Crossposting from the weight-loss thread, gonna start hanging out with you guys more now ;I... just give me a couple of years before I get the hang of squats.

Well I give up for now, I'm calling it quits and gonna try to bulk and regain some of the massive amounts of strength
I've lost during my weightloss.

Need better before and after pics, and pics in general I'm surprised at how bad my iphone camera is, but can't find anything else at the moment...

Before :
Weighing """only""" 110 kgs (240 lbs) in this pic, I gained another 5kg (11 lbs) reaching almost 115 kg (~255lbs)
before deciding to lose the weight.

untitled22trdr.png

After - featuring Robin Williams-level of body hair... :

untitledt8qu5.png

Current weight 66 kg (145 lbs)
Down ~50 kg (110 lbs)
110 cm (~44") waist down to 72 cm (28")
Duration was 2 months each summer for the past 3 summers... so a total of 6 months dieting/working out spread out over the past 2 years I guess. Now to do start doing actual DLs and squats :I...

That's amazing Corky. How tall are you?

PS! Guys... first day on new training program. Feels weird wrapping it up after 45 mins (following the Total Body Beginner routine from OT) as there's only four exercises. Wednesday/Friday are longer though.

Nice one Corky.

That's an amazing progress.

It does feel strange but as you keep ramping up the weights, your resting time will increase between each interval and it'll increase to an hour or longer.

I just started Insanity. Im dead!! LOL!!

A little background on me:

5 "11"
170 lbs.
My gut has been steadily increasing even though I do a lot of exercise daily (not formally, mind you, but Im a FedEx delivery driver, so you do the math).

I thought that because I worked at a place where Im constantly walking, etc, Insanity would be a little easy for me... boy, was I wrong!! This thing just kicked my ass!! And it is only my first day!! :(

Sitting on your ass driving all day doesn't get you a gut and doesn't make you out of shape. Give yourself an hour or two everyday and you won't have to blame your job. Sorry if I'm coming off blunt. I'm tired.

Had some girl problems. Crazy how it messed with my motivation or lack thereof to hit the gym. No excuses of course.

I'm on back on the saddle this week.

Oh, Im not blaming my job at all. My eating habits are pretty shitty right now, and if anything my job has keep me in some kind of shape ( I could be way worse!). I have to completely modify my diet if I want this to work, and dont worry about being blunt, I can take it like a man. :)

For a moment there I thought I would die, but now that Im done with the 1st day it wasnt that bad. I do know that there are a lot of though days coming ahead ( my wife already completed an Insanity cycle ). What I really need to do is work on is to eliminate my bulgeoning belly! :/

Shogun, great pictures. I like the one where it looks like your son is going to tackle you into the water.

Corky, you certainly look like you have some muscle on you. What was your weight loss schedule like?

My schedule was basically this

exercise consisting of :

30-40 km ( depending on route, tried to switch things up ) biking on varying terrain 5 times a week
gym 4 times a week, heavy weights low reps compound exercises

diet :

breakfast : fried eggwhites , 100g
after gym : protein-shake
lunch : 70g bacon, 25g cheese, greens, flaxseeds
meal : 50g nuts, cashew, almonds
dinner : 100g salmon, sundried tomatoes, greens
before bed : protein-shake

I can't find the file but this netted me around ~~1400 kcal and ~~ 150 g / 150 g / <20g of protein/fat/carbs

Pretty amazing how we had very similar diets and you got great results and I stalled. Ain't the body neat?

Im already excited for next weeks weigh in. Hopefully I go into the 170 range; I'd be happy with 179. I'm also thinking of increasing my HIIT endurance a little this week. Right now I do 5 at 10mph, 4 at 10.5 and 1 at 11. Maybe I'll do 2 more at 10.5. The treadmills have a speed interval button making HIIT really easy. Push the button and the speed goes up or down for you. I could definitely use new running shoes though. Any suggestions?

Great job Corky, I remember you from the FGC on gaf. We'll be bulking bros in no time, just one more week left on my cut. Today is the first day of Starting Strength for me. Can't wait. Also I joined fitocracy so is there a list of members from fitness gaf? Need to follow some vets so I can learn a thing or two. :3

Same here but we have to keep in mind that he had full on diet breaks that could have helped kickstart weight loss. I'm still making progress on my PSMF even though weight loss as slowed down to around .2lbs a day but I expected as much.

Don't forget Corky's results are over years of work. Slowly chipping away each summer. Great results but really hammers home the point that there's no shortcuts.

I kept hitting plateaus all the time, the only thing that kept me going was that knowing that if I stuck to it I'd break through.

Thanks :)! Yay, lets go for that Fuerte-esque physique.

Definitely, there wasn't really any other reason for me stopping each summer OTHER than hitting a wall and just not having the fortitude to keep doing the diet in conjunction with university and other stuff. It takes time, but when it starts rolling it's fun and doesn't feel like a chore at all...

I've been on a plateau weightwise for a couple months now. But, my strength is increasing at every workout and I know that with how my body works, eventually the switch will turn on and the weight will start to come off. Starting my 4th week of lifting up again tomorrow, thinking of taking a long bike ride today as I haven't done it in a couple weeks. Did HIIT sprints on off days last week.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuudge I need to quit slacking. Alcohol, leave me alone on the weekends please.

This is what happens when you don't goof around with a million different exercises and keep focus.

However on that note, I've been sick for the most week. Training has come to a stop for the last 7 days, and my eating hasn't been up to par. It's really amazing how dull and lethargic I feel when I'm unable to go the gym.

I get stretch marks on my bi's mainly.

So my legs have gone crazy skinny having not been able to work them for a month and a half, i need to ease them back into gymming.

I was doing SS and making steady progression, have only been back 2 weeks and working back/bi and chest/tri.

Can anyone recommend a good 3-4 day program for working everything bar legs? Obvs i'm keen as butter to get back into legs, however i can't squat for another ~3 weeks.

Wait, why can't you squat for 3 weeks?

Should I do BBB even if I could get more out of SS? I haven't kept up in the gym lately because of lack of car, my strength has stagnated, and when I do go I barely focus on moving up in weight. In the next week, I'll be back at school and able to go to the gym whenever.

You want to do 5/3/1 on top of BBB, which is about 3-5sets of 10 instead of 3 sets of 5 because you lack of car and can't focus on moving the weight up? What would be the reasoning behind this?

Can't you prevent stretch marks by using those creams like coco butter? Once you get them its hard to get rid of them, only time will really heal them or some procedure. But I thought you could atelast prevent them by rubbing coco butter on your skin every day?

Ask pregnant women. I'm not sure what's in coco butter but my mom told me some lotion when I was getting them and they kept them from progressing. I'll get the name when I get home.

This is some crazy shit. I was retaining a hell of a lot of water.

I went on vacation weighing 218, I came home a week later (just this past Saturday night) weighing 229, I weighed in this morning at 220.

I guess I didn't gain shit on vacation, hell at least 1 pound of that 2lb increase is probably water after going from low carb to normal carb diet will inevitably put water back in youtr system. That's some crazy shit yo.

I'm curious what he's doing now. He was out of the game for a while, this was back in 2008. Still impressive as hell though.

It probably won't ship, but GNC right now has 2 5lb tubs of Vanilla Whey for $12, free shipping with code 15611.

I don't like th added ingredients they put in shit like this. That's why ON whey protein is better.

Anyway, I think I'm going to go back to taking protein supplements. Are there any other alternative and cheaper products than ON whey protein with the same ingredients (meaning no celluse and xanthan gum)?

Nice back Anton!

Here is where I am as of last month: 5'11" 75kg. I'm going to start training for triathlons so I am probably going to limit weight training to twice a week. I am still aiming to do my best to put on muscle and get stronger though!

I hope to have 17.5-18 inch arms by next year. I'm at 15.75 right now. I think that is possible. Only problem for me is that my arms won't look nearly as cut as yours. It is just a 'solid chunk' even when I lean out. It is okay though. Macho Man was never real lean. Just strong. LIKE ME. ORA ORA ORA ORA!!!!!!!!!!!

Incoming shirtless beach pictures.

Definitely could have been thinner for these. Gonna work on that for next summer. ;)

Love it. You already know my thoughts.

Question for the thread:

1) I can't remember for 5/3/1 and I know we discussed this already but after completing a cycle, lower body lifts are increased by 10. Upper body by 5. But is it to the estimated 1RM or your training max?

2) Power cleans and 5/3/1. Is there an acceptable answer for this? Again, we briefly talked about it but I really want to have this be a part of my workout. Remove OHP? Do it after deadlifts/squats? Before?

Same shit happened to me, I was low carb and then I celebrated on my birthday weekend starting off at 190. I hung out with some friends ate "regular" as opposed to low carb, the nicest I ate was at this nice mexican restaurant called the pink taco. weekend was up and I weighed in at 200. I went to bed ran my normal 3 mile route and the following day I was 191 or something.

Question: Can I use power cleans (or something similar) in this program? If so, where would you put them?

Answer: Yes, this is a great idea. I’d recommend doing power cleans, hang cleans, power snatches or hang snatches if want to choose an Olympic movement. If you want to do these along with the regular training, I’d recommend doing them before you perform your squat or deadlift workout.

Keep in mind ToughPants has been lifting for over a decade so.... temper your expectations of how easy it is to look like that.

Yeah, that too.

Anton, you've got Bane-sized back, but your chest is seriously underdeveloped. =\

Yeah, I've always prioritized pull movements/back development over chest, aesthetically and functionally, but I'm looking to balance it out with more accessory work for my press starting with my next cycle. I don't think I have the genes for a broad, big chest, though :-\

I tend to agree, and I'm actually well-stocked with True Nutrition Recession Whey, but I figure with prices skyrocketting there were sure to be a few Gaffers who could use 10lbs of Whey for $12.

Anyways, just finished my second day of the 5/3/1 BBB challenge. Holy shit, my back/legs are dead. The deadlifts weren't bad, but even at 50% of my max, 5 sets of 10 reps on squats absolutely killed me. I literally felt my legs shaking towards those last reps.

This is going to be fun.

I've seen 2 versions. I'm doing the one where on your 5/3/1 deads day you do BBB Squats and vice versa. Don't know if it's "better", but I don't think I could handle the monotony of so many sets of just one of them.

It feels painfully awesome!

I do the same on my 2 day rotations. 5/3/1 Squat, BBB DL (and swap) then other assistance.

I'm also doing the same for upper body. I really like the full week for cardio/rest and just going nuts on the two days I lift. Starting my second cycle on this new routine today.

Edit: Oh, and doing BBB you're gonna be sore. All those people saying "the soreness goes away when you've lifted for a while" have no idea, lol.

Yeah, that too.

Word.

I really want to get to the gym but will go tomorrow. Off day today. Hate this random bloated feeling though of eating. Too many carbs.

And I decided to pull back on BBB. I will stick with 3-5 sets @ 10 reps for deadlifts/squats but change it up for OHP and Bench. Will try my best to do power cleans before deadlifts. Might try it before squats as well but that seems scary as hell to me lol.

It conveniently ends for me right before the day I work what was sore, so it just kind of "renews" itself. If it ever started overlapping I would definitely switch it up.

Regarding DOMS, I'm inclined to believe that it mostly goes away for small muscles, but not nearly to the same extent for large muscles. My biceps, triceps, and shoulders virtually never get sore, whereas my chest, legs, and back are always sore after.

I would agree, although those same "small" muscles are still a bit sore for me the next day, but DOMs doesn't last nearly as long in them. It's probably just the fact there's more "area" to "clean" out than the smaller muscles, but I'm no kin/bio major.

Everyone is different though, I haven't gotten sore since my first 5/3/1 BBB cycle and I know I'm at max effort because I failed on OHP this week and completed my 1 rep for deads but then promptly passed out because I struggled so long to get it up lol.

Damn Corky, you look great. Good luck on the bulk, you'll look like a beast when you're done. Just like your annoying idol that we all hate playing against.

BTW, I'm also 5'7 and have been on a 2 week cut right now. I've lost 8 pounds total so far. Most of it came off in the first week(water weight). Hopefully I'll have decent results in the coming months if I can keep it up.

No need to jump on anbokr guys, it's a common misconception.

Anbokr, it's good to see your hard work is paying off. Unfortunately, 13 lb of muscle in 2 months is impossible even when you're on gear. It's likely a lot of water and some fat, along with maybe a lb of muscle.

That being said, if you're making progress in strength/size, then keep up the good work.

Question for you guys about deadlifts.. I don't have any videos yet of me doing it, but when I do deadlifts I feel the majority of it in my mid to upper back, and then of course in my knees as well. I guess it's probably about 50%/50%, of course I feel some in my core too. I'm trying to follow Rippetoe's video on it, just wondering if that is normal to feel that much in my back.

Yeah, for you cardio is more of a priority, so as shitty as it is to say, you more need to look as squats/deads as a secondary priority, at least IMO.

Feeling it in your lats is good (IMO), just be sure that's not a "focus" of where you feel it. Your knees shouldn't feel much of it at all. Remember it's a hip hinge movement. Your hams and glutes should be taking most of it.

Just got back from the Orthopedic surgeon for my MRI results.

I have a torn meniscus. He says we can do surgery now but it is possible that I could deal without it so I'm just going to try that. Also said my leg bone at the ball is all inflamed but not broken. Not even sure what that is from.

I also have Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome caused by imbalance in my quads and hamstrings.

Gotta go to physical therapy 2x a week but the good news is I don't have to stop squatting, at least for now. The last thing I want is to be out a few months because of surgery.
