Reposting for the new page. So he gets another warning before he gets slapped.

beastmode, stop.

I realize you are not happy with the response you have received from other posters and there is apparently some disagreement / misunderstanding about the phrasing you were using, but it was not defamatory. And it is not a reason to come into a community thread and import an argument from a completely different thread. If you want to continue discussing it, leave it in the topic where it began or take it to PMs. Don't derail this thread.

To get back on track...

Do you guys have any recommendations for sneakers to wear when I'm doing HIIT?

Before I transition to 11mph sprints in the next month, I'd like to get some quality ones. Some people online say the Nike Free line is fine, but I figured I'd ask here.

What type of HIIT? For Insanity its recommended some good cross trainers, I went with asics. Insanity involved a lot of movement on different planes, jumping, left right etc so I doubt you could go wrong with a good pair of cross trainers for any type of HIIT. If you're just doing running then I'm pretty sure even just a good pair of running shoes would be good, no?

Getting back on topic again.

Going for 275x5 on deadlifts today. It will be nice to have two 45s and a 25 on each side. Sometimes that type of visual is a big confidence booster at least for me.

The bolded is what I figured. I'll have to check DSW for some sales.

Recently my gym got those big rubber weights where the 35's are as thick as steel 100's. The visuals are great.

Yeah, we have two platforms. Most places have 100lb plates, no? I only use them for leg press and shit like that.

Interesting. To be fair the plates are the exact same ones the place had when I was in high school.. which was a pretty long time ago.

Do you ever get frustrated when you feel like she's not pushing herself? I swear she can do more but any push just turns into whining that she's trying her hardest.

yes. constantly. she seems to mistake 'effort' for 'too hard' or 'hurts'. yes, it 'hurts', but you need to let me know when something really hurts, not just when the effort is taxing.

we don't work out together much anymore because it always leads to fighting. she goes to her zumba/step/xf, I train.

Welcome to gf workouts. Too low weight, too high reps, "Am I doing this right?", frustration/exhaustion, back to the cardio equipment.

it sucks because it wouldnt be hard for her to get the exact body she wants, especially her ass, but she simply doesn't have that 'drive' to push herself when it 'hurts' (is hard). that and she finds it 'boring' when there's time between lifting. the time in getting psyched for my next lift, she is whining about wasting time.

but she loves her group classes, so I just let her do them, and keep the peace.

Are we dating the same girl?!

I'll admit, I'm proud she squats 110 (her body weight) but I tell her she has perfect form she should be able to do 115. This, of course, leads to fights because "I'm going 100% at 110".

I took my ex to the gym once. She was a dancer so I just left her to do her own thing. She didn't like my gym because it wasn't a girl gym.

my g/f isn't that tiny. she's about 145 at 5'4, thankfully a lot of that is being blessed with a chest that won't fit in most DD bras properly, but she's also played hockey her whole life and such, so she has some thickness to her for sure. she was squatting like 135 at one point, but then it just became the constant 'it hurts', when it was obviously finally just getting to be the weight she should be doing.

we had some brutal fights at/after the gym, and eventually I told her we simply couldnt workout together, because she doesnt like 'gym me', who doesn't want to coddle and act like that. at the gym, I'm there to push you. you know?

she can't seperate the 2, and just prefers group classes.

Brother recommended this "50" rep alternative workout thing. Gonna give it a shot with back tonight. He says it really beats his ass and that's what I'm looking for! haha can't wait to try it out tonight.

Yeah we got in 2 or 3 pretty bad fights. One of which she called me an asshole and left and sat in the car until I was done.

And yeah I pretty much said the same thing. Done working out together.

Yeah, I don't just do behavior therapy with my clients.

I refuse to reinforce temper tantrums like that.

Yep. plus, I'm not fucking up my gym time.

I told her from day 1, this is my thing. you want to join me, great, but you will not fuck up that time for me.

Holy fuck, I bought those TK knee bands and I feel like just getting the bastards onto my knees was workout enough. I might need power tools to get these off my knees after this workout.

Was hoping you guys could help me with a decision on what to buy. I want to get something to measure my body fat percentage. Should I go with a electronic device like this

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FYZMYK/?tag=neogaf0e-20

or something more old fashion like this

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002VAPHXW/?tag=neogaf0e-20

I"m looking for something that is easy to use and very accurate. Obviously I'm more interested in the electronic device, but I wouldn't want to get it if it gives me inaccurate results. I know there are plenty of reviews for both devices, but I was hoping you guys who have used one of them or both could chime in on this.

Why not?

He's just lookin' to get hooge.

I do a lot of reps myself.

Nah, I've mentioned before his line "if I'm going to beat you on the leader boards I need to start squatting"

There's no logical sense of progression

45x10
45x10
95x10
95x10
135x10
135x10
155x10
185x8
185x8
205x6
205x6
225x5
225x3
135x15
135x10
135x10

Then a similar bench routine on his other workout days, four or five times a week.

Who the hell has time for that?

Glad to hear the GF at the gym talk. My girlfriend is the same way. We've had a few workouts together and they went well for the most part. Couple weeks ago she wanted to do her arms, so I gave her 2 10lb dumbbells for curls (hoping that we would go UP from there) and she couldn't even finish a set of 15. Then I gave her 8lb dumbbells and she struggled to even finish a set of 12. I tried to be supportive of her, but i find it so hard to believe that ANYONE can't lift 10 lbs 15 times. Then she went and did her own thing, so she grabbed 2 3lb dumbbells and did like shoulder raises or something. :\ 3lbs? Like what's the point?

She has lost weight though, and does look good. Problem is when it comes to actual weight training she's pretty hesitant. She does zumba/other cardio and she takes these fat burning pills. :\ It kind of pisses me off that she does all that and hardly pushes weights because I feel like all she wants to do is take shortcuts to get the body she wants.

Even though she is losing fat with that she's doing, I constantly tell her to do weights and squats and other things so that she can actually TONE her body, but I feel like it's falling on deaf ears.

It is a real confidence booster for sure. I just recently did 365 for 5, and it is an amazing feeling when you break that off the ground.

Just let her do her own thing. When she doesn't see the results she'll come to you.

I don't think she will. She has a trainer right now, but from what she tells me, all they do is stretching and cardio and Pilates shit. I think because she's losing fat, she's gonna keep doing what she's doing. I just don't think she realizes the importance of lifting weights.

Most women, hell, most men don't realize the benefits of weight lifting. Try and explain the advantages weight lifting will have on her bones and how this will help her into old age. Maybe that approach might make something click?

One of the wisest things I was ever told by another trainer was "don't train your GF/wife, don't date your clients."

Training your significant other is one of the most painful, excruciating things, somebody can do. You will get frustrated, you will say something stupid, and you will end up in a fight. If there's any way you can back out now, for your sanity's sake, I'd do it.

The reason is that training your significant other means you have to judge them. On form, appearance, etc. Eventually, that judging is going to get a bit more direct than you intend it to and you might say something like "you want to lose that last bit of weight, right" or "you just need to push harder" or "this is what you have to do to have a great ass" etc. etc. etc. Then, the depths of hell open up and swallow you inside them.

I'd tell her she can't get bulky, explain that if she could do that easily you'd look like arnold with zero effort, and leave it at that. Or, get her a trainer with more expiereace than a gym cert.

Great advice. I help my wife and comment on form but that's about it. I'm mostly there for encouragement and the occasional spot.

So I feel that I've been dieting well, I run about 11 minutes before lifting weights 3 times a week, following the beginners routine in the OP. My body is starting to see results after about 2 months of sticking with it but there's one area that seems to be lagging behind - my abs. I still got a good pudge. What's the best way to burn this fat off? I'm thinking of running 5 times a week instead of 3. Maybe run even more if it's ok for a beginner.
