pic is bullshit imo. It's simply skewed in a way to shit on bieber is all.

If you're going to use Arnold as an ideal(he isn't) then that means that todays ideal is Phil Heath.

Arnold was definitely the ideal man.

Holy shit, I just did 25 pullups in a row. Now THAT felt good.

Also, 100 rep challenge has been posted.

Looks like it's an enhanced version of what I've been doing already. Might give this a spin.

Thanks for posting that Alien. This seems like a nice diversion for 6 weeks.

Ah, I thought they were one day things, but I don't know shit about them. I always just threw shotput and discuss. ;)

In the 80s "arnold" was the "ideal" it was all big muscles, same with the 90s. It's not a linear progression, so no, today would not be Phil Heath. This is pretty spot on until it hits bieber.

Not that any of this matters.

No, I did two separate tris on my own in a three day period.

Looks interesting. Personally I'd recommend replacing the front lat exercises with another side and a rear delt exercise. If you're doing any compound chest exercises at all (esp bench press), there's a really big chance your front delts are overdeveloped compared to the other two.

Absolutely. This is just what was in M&F...I'm mostly taking away rep scheme / < 30 second rest periods...I'll probably do this for a month or so before I start to bulk up over the winter

not quite fair, as we would have to wait until bieber is of the same age as the other guys to compare them. Bieber is guaranteed to turn into a beefcake when he reaches his mid 20's

Girls our age don't fawn over Bieber.

They fawn over this guy:

Twenty-five pull-ups at 215lbs now? Elite status confirmed!

My favorite quote from the article:
And if you have any doubts, stop having doubts. You must expect more from yourself.

Good advice to heed.

Gym was a ghost town today. Only 8-10 people around 4:30pm, which should be when the place is getting packed with 30-50 people.

I've bought some Rogue bumper plates on Craigslist. Four 5kg plates and four 10kg plates for $180 (132lbs total @ $1.36 per lb... ouch). Great shape, though. And as if I wasn't uncomfortable enough spending that kind of money on weights, I went ahead and bought a pair of the 65lbs Gorilla plates on Rogue's site. If I like them I'll buy another pair or two. They're nice, anyways, but definitely a different feel than the steel weights I've been accustomed to. I feel like a Crossfit guy buying all this expensive weightlifting shit.

Was 218 at my lowest on the cut, I'm back at 223 right now, gained some between vacation and making sure to "eat enough" to get my strength back (eating dirty). Gonna reign it back in though. Thanks though!

I can't wait till I can make my own gym, then I can start doing like you and making my own crossfit gym. ;) In all seriousness though I'm jealous.

You mean bent over rows?

I mean barbell rows, specifically pendlay rows (which are strict barbell rows). But yeah, I've heard them called bent over rows before.

Couple of things.

Week 2 of 5/3/1 BBB starts tomorrow (got pulled away by friends yesterday :().

I've been talking with a bunch of people about contest preps. A guy up in Tulsa would help me get ready for a show in the late spring, but it's a really small show apparently. They actually said I could even do a show in November, but I don't think I'm ready for that (mostly cause I started bulking and my BF is up).

Also have a couple of other guys to call. One owns a local gym here and trains a lot of the athletes here at school and few pros in various sports. Has some bodybuilding connections. There's also a show coming up here on campus this month, I figured I'd go check it out and make some friends and see what else I can learn.

Honestly, even if they were just making a sale. It was nice to hear someone knowledgable say I could compete.

I should start vlogging my journey, lol..

I'm the 7-time Mr. Olympia motherfucka!

Lol but seriously, I'll post a pic after I fully cut I guess then if you're so curious. :p

Curious?

Dude, this is the god damn fitness thread. Where else are red blooded heterosexual men supposed to ask other red blooded heterosexual men to take pictures of themselves half naked so we can admire their body while we have even more pictures up of men so we can debate what type of frame women actually like?

@Alienshogun and MjFrancis - If there's one thing that Crossfit has done for everybody, it's opening more gyms than an area can handle, having to shut down, and putting their equipment up on Craigslist. No lie, if you want to get equipment cheep search for the cities within a few hours of you that have a CF gym and you're bound to find equipment within a month or two. Back when I lived in Knoxville they're were four CF gyms all within 15 miles of each other and all pushing 150-200 per month.

Are there any good cardio program's with kettle balls anyone knows about?nill be indoors most of this winter so don't wanna skimp out in cardio sessions

Should I squat with my injured hip flexor? It's been a few weeks now and I've continued squatting. I'm not sure if it makes it worse or not but I guess it's not helping is it? Anyone have any knowledge on the matter? What about deadlifts?

Walked out of the gym, saw a guy staring below the dashboard in his car furiously shaking his hand. I was thinking 'really bro? here in daylight?', then he pulled up his protein shaker and took a sip.

The stuff I got was from a guy who bought plates from a closed Crossfit place - so there was some markup involved, but even at what I paid for the plates it would cost more than double to buy them brand new and shipped from Ohio. On the other hand there's still places selling bumper plates for $2.20/lb brand new, too, and a healthy dose of posts asking for bumper plates or similar weight equipment at any give time. Sellers have no shortage of buyers here.

So, things are a little different in the Seattle area. It's not uncommon to find a listing that has already been bought within hours, and many good deals are gone in a day. I've been watching Craigslist like a hawk and seen things bought out from under me fairly regularly. Our Crossfit meltdown isn't happening just yet, but it can be seen over the horizon.

But since I need a fully functioning home gym in less than a month, I'm scrambling at this point. The real steals and deals haven't materialized in my favor this summer, and so I'm paying a bit more for this and that. I'll have a nice home gym setup, and it'll be a fine thing to behold even if I do still need to fix the drywall in the garage. Actually, that's another thing I should have done already, lol. Maybe a few strategically placed posters will suffice.

I hope that's still the case in about 20 years, because that's when I intend to make a gym. I may try to make a home gym in a smaller amount of time.

Should I squat with my injured hip flexor? It's been a few weeks now and I've continued squatting. I'm not sure if it makes it worse or not but I guess it's not helping is it? Anyone have any knowledge on the matter? What about deadlifts?

I would either take a break or go way lighter on the weight, deadlifts should be ok. If you're not getting pain while doing the movement you're probably fine.

Walked out of the gym, saw a guy staring below the dashboard in his car furiously shaking his hand. I was thinking 'really bro? here in daylight?', then he pulled up his protein shaker and took a sip.

I've had people give me that weird look before, so now if I do that shit in the car I put the shaker up in plain view while I shake.

after working out for the last 3 months and not doing any kind of dieting or refraining from eating any particular stuff, I can safely say what's the absolute WORST you can take to fuck up your progress and get flabby instantly.

ALCOHOL, drink booze and watch as your body turns into a mess the next day, and just 2 days ago it was decently solid.

not pizza, not ice cream, not macdonalds.

It's alcohol.

Ummm what? As many others have said, 1-2 days of drinking should make you look tighter and leaner as it sucks all the excess water out of your system.

I'm guessing you probably drank a of a ton of sugary drinks (anything and coke) or beer that was high in carbs am I right?

Stick with dry red wine or straight liquor and don't make a habit of it and you'll be just fine. Also want to avoid ordering pizza and nachos at 3 a.m. but you already knew that.

well I was enjoying this first cycle of 5/3/1, but whatever i did to the back of my neck/head just isn't going away. It randomly rears its head when I'm doing things where I focus and tighter up my neck/face. I'm simply not going to do anything that really exerts myself for a week or so and see how it feels.

this sucks.

happened again when i went to do some chins at home yesterday. its weird cause my big 4 compounds don't seem to have any effect on it, save for squats on the first day it happened.

I've dropped 15 pounds in the last month, just from eating better and mild exercise. Now that I can exercise again, I've been doing 4 hours a day on my exercise bike (roughly 60 some miles), pull ups, DDP Yoga, and this kettlebell work out that ruins me for 3 days at a time. I'm hoping to drop another 5-10 this month. Shouldn't be that hard. I'm not trying to get all cut up or buff, just in shape. I don't need to look like Thor or have a 12 pack. The slightest of visible abs are all I really want.

I stick to 1300-1750 calorie range a day. I do tend to eat shittier on days I work out for 4-5 hours, because it still keeps me in a calorie deficit and I don't feel bad about it. Lot of brown rice, chicken breasts, and carrots/cauliflower/broc/celery for dinner. I really lost most of it just eating better. It's just really hard to stay motivated for that long. I have to force myself to do even one hour on the bike, so 4 is really hard to stay motivated for. I've always hated exercising, and I don't get enjoyment out of it. I feel a slight sense of accomplishment, but it is all for losing weight, not for fun or pleasure.

When I do the kettlebell work out, I can't do the biking for a few days, so I'm trying to find a new one that is a bit less leg intensive so I can still do my other things. As it is, the work out I'm doing is basically doing squats for a half hour, even in the warm up and cool downs. Probably end up doing a few hundred at least during it. Which is fine, but not when it cuts into my other stuff for days. I'm looking for more arms and core based stuff.

As today was back day and inspired by our good friend alienshogun, I decided to do some pull-ups. The idea was to as many sets and reps as possible in 30 minutes.
Ended up with this: 16 12 7 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 5 4 4 for a grand total of 90.
I was shooting for a 100 but that´s ok, maybe next time. Did a bunch of other back stuff and called it a day. Good workout.

4-5 hours on an exercise bike?? Holy shit. That seems extreme. Do you basically just work and then come home and ride the exercise bike and then go to bed?

Nothing weird with straight men staring at the fully formed pecs and abs of oiled up men, as long as you're 'mirin

I picked up SS again. This time I'm doing it more regularly and eating much more (or at least trying to). Having a workout buddy this time around helps me stay motivated, even if he doesn't follow it as strictly as me (he adds in curls + rows and doesn't eat as much as me). A month in and seeing some improvements already makes me happy. Not close to where I wanna be but at least I'm going up. =D

Age: 22 | Height: 5'7" | Weight: 160lbs

Squats 3x5: 95lbs -> 145lbs
Bench Press 3x5: 95lbs -> 105lbs
Deadlift 1x5: 105lbs -> 155lbs
OH Press 3x5: 55lbs -> 70lbs
Power Clean 5x3: 55lbs -> 70lbs

I know I can add more weight for power cleans but I'm trying to get the form right. I should be using my pull-up bar...

Although they work your legs, deadlifts are primarily a lower back exercise. It's not advised that you do them on the same day as squats (if that's what you're doing) in fact you should try to do them as far apart as possible.

No. I'm not working at all right now so I have a lot of free time. And I don't do 4 hours straight. I usually do one or two at a time and then take a 10-15 minute break, or I'll do two hours and the other two much later in the day. 4 hours total. It hurts my back and ass too much to do more than 2 straight without stopping.

I disagree completely, they are primarily a hamstring/glute (leg)exercise that involve the lower back. It's a hip hinge movement.

I've said this before, but you're not picking up 500lbs with your back.

Eat it. As long as the rest of your day isn't complete rubbish it'll be fine.

Why no carbs though? Holiday?

I've heard and read that it really doesn't matter. You can do them on either back or leg day. I chose to do them on leg day so I won't have to skip two days of running. It's pretty difficult to run after deadlifting. Might as well consolidate it and make it into one day.

It depends on the type of oil you use to fry them since the potatoes absorb a large quantity of it.
