There is only room in life for so many things that you can pursue obsessively. Having a balanced life is important. Aristotle's golden mean, an all that

This is very very true. I have quite a few hobbies that get neglected because weightlifting takes up such a large chunk of my time. And for many people it's the other way around, they'd like to be in better shape and lift more but other hobbies or responsibilities get in the way.

Don't I know it. My other hobbies have become a much smaller part of my life, especially video games. They used to be my major focus, but not between health and fitness, my g/f, a renewed interest in board games, and other stuff, I might play a game once or twice a month. Still love them, but they have fallen to the wayside for sure, in favor of hobbies my g/f and I can more easily enjoy together.

I'm enjoying these whey posts.

Flavors I like:

Chocolate Mint - Not very good in shake form, but great with oats and okay with baking.
Double Rich Chocolate - All around good flavor. Great to cook with it, okay in shakes.
Coffee - Personal favorite, can pretty much use it in anything. Makes a fantastic coffee creamer.
Vanilla - If you want to eat pancakes every day, get this one.

I mean really, it may just be whey, but I get to eat pancakes, waffles, muffins, cakes, brownies, blah blah blah whenever I feel like it. Makes sticking to macros so much easier and lowers that craving to cheat. For me at least.

No whey is not the main source of anything in my diet. But boy does it open a nice new world. Same for flax meal and low carb situations.

People who buy whey to make shakes don't even know. They don't even know!

I'm in total agreement man. Without these awesome whey flavors I don't know what I'd do with myself.

I remember like 10 years ago when I was in high school there was pretty much just Vanilla or Chocolate and they both tasted like shit, were a very chalky lumpy consistency, and just didn't mix well at all, and it cost a fucking fortune. Talking $65 for a 2lb tub.

So why subject yourself to that crap in this day and age with so many awesome flavors out there? And so many good cooking recipes that they can be used in?

I honestly would probably cheat way more without my whey.

Stranded? Rub them legs together and start a fire!

That's funny though, you've got the same issues fat guys have, but it's from your legs being muscular.

How big are your legs btw? How much do you squat/dead? I'm curious because it looks like your squat/dead numbers should be astronomical, although we didn't quite see your hams.
Terrible numbers. I was thinking that too looking at the pic. I'm using 315 as the base from my squat/deads in 5/3/1 right now, though I've done more before, but I figure it's best to keep things real given I haven't done true squats in a while (before BBB I mean).

I just measured my right leg and got almost 25.5, flexed, cold. But I'm also bloated and fat right now. So it's whatever. I'll measure again after my squats today.

So yeah, I've got big legs, but shitty strength.

Priorities are important. Healthy, even. The hours I spend talking and typing about weight lifting have declined, the hours I've spent on research and additional reading is almost nothing these days, and I've got 4 hours a week on strength training and another two total for conditioning, mobility work and yoga. I hike 3-4x/month but that's not training, just family time, really.

I'm spending less time talking and researching and getting more out of doing. For the rest of the time I've got my firstborn on the way soon, a 9-5, multiple side jobs, a loving wife to care for and still find time for video games to play and unwind with. It's wonderful to have found this balance.

Yup I have to echo everyone around here. Although assassins creed 3 may force me to take a week off :p

Yeah, your legs are about the same size as mine (actually just measured them at 25.25, but mine have a little fat on them, yours don't. It's crazy to remember sometimes that size doesn't always equal strength, but it typically is indicative of how strong someone is.

I'm willing to bet when you go at it hard your numbers will go up quickly.

Congrats, and prepare for your world to be rocked. No matter how prepared you are, you're not, lol.

Have you tried the Mocca/Cappuccino?

Seems like it's rated higher than Coffee...wondering which I should buy.
I haven't tried it, but I really dislike these obscure flavors. They often don't taste very good at all. I bought caramel toffee fudge once cause I thought it'd be amazing, not so much. Couldn't even use it in anything. Your call.

Heck yeah! It does wonders with oats, oats is like this magical food that can be made into anything, but needs SOMETHING to keep it flavorful. So the whey powders go along with that.

Though I don't utilize it for everythinnng. Like I won't use whey if i cook with pumpkin or sweet potatoes. Pretty much just oats and flax meal.

I hope so. I just want squat and dead numbers, I don't want more leg size, lol. Maybe a bit more ham size, but even that is alright to my eye. I need get a good pic for you guys.

EDIT: It's funny you bring that up actually. Just last night I saw an old buddy at the gym, he had gone home for quite a few months. He was demolishing the squat rack. Seeing him do deads and squats made me feel really shitty.

Mostly because I asked him how much he weighed now and he said 160. Groan.

But hey, that's what I'm here to fix!

All that Bruce Lee reading is paying off I see! Whenever I read his notes/books on him it always inspires me on this balanced life, ying and yang etc. I might need to get a bruce lee poster, just to always inspire me. not in terms of just training, but how he conducted his life, the way he behaved.

27.5 inches suckas! Get on my level!

But nowhere as lean as DarthWufei. Not at all haha.

Also, big guy called me big at the gym today. Feels good man.

edit: Mac and Cheese thread got me hyped. I want mac and cheese with hotdogs and ground beef.

Fuck me, my elbow sleeves are too tight now, I can barely keep them on for more than a few sets at a time before my hands go numb. I just tried to sit in my living room with them on to "break them in some more" after hanging them from my pull up bar with weights in them, no good. Now I need to either get a new size from EFTS or get some TK bands or Rehband elbow sleeves.

I don't wanna lift without them now since using them my elbow pain has become almost non existent.

GODDAMMIT I'M ONLY 23 AND CHANGE COLD.

I have disappointed LegGaf :'(

SMH, get out, just, get, out.

Prepare for greatness:
1 pound elbow pasta boiled aldente

combine .5 cups of flour with .75 stick of butter that has been melted
Whisk for 2 minutes to create the base of the beshemel sauce.

Add quart of warm milk into the flour/butter combo. keep hot but do not boil.
add 12oz gruyer cheese and 16oz of sharp white cheddar. cook until sauce is thick and consistant

Add salt, pepper, nutmeg, and ground mustard. flavor so it's a bit salty and the nutmeg gives a bit of nuttiness.

combine pasta with sauce into a oven safe dish. then take .25 stick of butter and combine with some breadcrumbs. cook until they combine and make a clumpy powder. sprinkle over mac and cheese.

bake in oven 375 degrees for about 45 minutes.

Go run for 1 hour and then lift until you puke because you need to burn some calories off.

Now eat. and make sure you have enough people over so there are no leftovers.

26" for me. That worries me since I'm only squatting 120KG at the moment and I'm already having a hard time finding jeans that fit well.

Is this the right way to measure? or is here some other way

leg.jpg

never measured my leg so I was curious... bah, around 20.0 Inches, :p . For not don't much of anything at a gym, just with jogging and bodyweight for 3.5 months, it's o.k., not to mention that I have always had very thin bodyparts so I am glad there's at least that.

AND it will give everyone some nice perspective when Darth shows the pic he wants to do after workout, maximizing visual impact :D

I look up to you 24-27 in. legged guys, I promise to try my hardest.

you bet! :D I am already into that, it's just that I am still at a starting point so I don't mind showing it in front of guys who have way better numbers.

the good thing is that I now have a pic to compare to in some months or a year. Will come in handy.

and yeah, those times were great in that thread, it was like a party everyone attended, fitness gaf (you, alien, darth) were there, girlgaf was there, gaygaf was there and evilore started it, lol.

6 months ago I tried doing a pullup for the first time, managed 0, then tried the easier chinup and did 3.

Today I had a plane to catch so I planned to only do as many pullups as I can in 15 minutes as the hotel's gym lacks brabells or decent free weights, thought I would probably manage 15-20.

I did a total of 72! with all the different grip variations. Felt great, so I treated myself with a small nutella gelato ice cream :D

To this (really shitty low light picture I took last night in my crack den of a bedroom)

Drinking whey protein shakes after workouts has helped a ton. As a pretty small dude, 5'6" with a petite build, I'm pretty happy with my progress. 130lbs at the start (my weight for the previous 8 years), now 150lbs. I'm working out harder these past couple of months than I was initially, so hoping to see another jump by the end of the year. I don't think I'll go much further than that. I'm not trying to get huge, I was just sick of being so scrawny. This has all been done with home workouts (dumbbells and pull up bar).

"I don't wanna get huge" always makes me chuckle. As if it were that easy. I know some may not mean it that way, but it still gets me every time.

Hahah yeah I know it's not easy. With the effort I currently put in, no, I will not "get huge". I hope to keep it that way.

My workout rigement is very laissez-faire because it can be for what I want out of it. I can't even imagine doing what some of you guys in here do. Just not that dedicated.

First person to reach the 30" club wins a giant cookie.

You guys better get to baking that PB chocolate chunk cookie. I'm HUNGRY.

what are the highest numbers the biggest, strongest bodybuilders can get on their thighs?

or are you guys around 25-27 already reaching the physical limit for that muscle?

Dave Tate just posted this.

Should put some of these "certifications" in perspective. LTT is Learn to Train btw.

Dave Tate said:
I was just told that we should make the LTT Seminar a certification because we could charge twice as much money. I had to ask what we would need to do in order to certify people. The answer... Just print out certificates and sign them. Now I know why every dip shit has a certification and there are so few seminars. The only thing I want to certify are PRs - F**k the extra money and heavy stock paper. What a crock of s**t!

Anyone know if there's an app that counts down every few hours or something, I need to start eating more as I feel my lifts are going to start suffering soon if I don't. But it hard for me to be like "oh time to eat", I feel an app would help me get into the habit of doing so.

or are you guys around 25-27 already reaching the physical limit for that muscle?
Dunno, but as I said earlier I'm not really looking for more leg size right now. I have plenty. It's the strength that needs work. I also think my legs are out of proportion but I might just be crazy.

I need to buy the 5/3/1 book, think I'm gonna do it now. But quick question for you guys (feel free to yell at me), do I have to stick with Wendler's suggestion for max increase each cycle? I feel like I started things too light, I'll have a better gauge next week. My biggest problem was utilizing max's based on where I was at currently, not taking into account bouncing back so quickly.

My gut says, suck it up and stick with the plan, or at least wait it out another cycle. Don't want to be overzealous and stupid.

So I just measured my Legs and Biceps for the first time ever and have no idea if the measurements are good, bad, average or what.

5'11 192 lbs around 14% body fat.

15.5 inch arms (flexed)
26" legs (in a normal standing position)
