I've hesrd rumors that the women's locker room is pretty nasty as well.....I need to do a "study" on this......

At Gold's it's pretty much like that comic. Maybe a little less modesty on the younger side compared to guys.

Pretty good shoulder and trap workout today. Did a set of 5 of seated shoulder dumbbell press with 65's, I think that's the highest I've gone.

The Oatmeal is so awesome. It did get one thing wrong though... It's not based on age.

Couple of quick novice questions. I'm still going on SS but I'm worried about two things.

A. Nutrition. I'm a non-meat eater (hesitate to say vegetarian but whatever) and I'm not entirely sure what the heck I should be focusing on that's not super carby but isn't calorie empty either. I was previously a really fat non vegetarian, so I'm mainly doing SS to lose the weight but I also don't want to look like a bag of skin. Not sure if anyone here can point me to some reliable resources/articles.

B. I'm starting to notice a significant non-soreness related pain in my left knee and interior hip (near adductor area) that happens when I squat/do anything that requires that type of form. I had a trainer at my gym check my forms for the main SS exercises that bring the pain on and he says he doesn't see anything wrong. I'm led to believe that this pain is from the cardio portion of my routine where I mainly switch it up between bike, elliptical and walk/run. My main question is how do I deal with this while not avoiding the gym entirely but not making it worse?

TL DR: What should I eat as a vegetarian/How do I deal with pains but still work out?

Why is that so true? Lifting at lifestyles gym was terrible.

It's the same everywhere, even in university gyms.

I really dislike any form of a leg curl machine. The one where you lay down being the worst. I feel like I'm all primed and ready for the world to take advantage of me.

If I ever see you doing that, I'll be sure to sneak up on you holding a bottle of baby oil.

Tempeh and seitan are great alternatives to straight tofu. Tempeh is not as processed as tofu and weilds a higher proportion of protein. Seitan is wheat gluten, but most of the carbs are washed away in the process of making it. 4oz serving = 10g of carbs, and 26g of protein.

Stretch your hips daily. If the pain still doesn't stop, take a week off from lifting heavy but don't stop stretching.

Figured I'd ask here than make a new thread.

Is there a site for people who want to find a workout buddy? I lost focus after a month of training and I think a partner would keep me on my grind.

Fitocracy is a workout tracking site that frequently has groups based on location where you could try your luck.

You could try nuts, seeds, legumes, certain grains like quinoa or amaranth. I don't know if you consume any animal products, but if you do you could try greek yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, skim or 1% milk. Just a few suggestions.

Most people here think a partner ends up holding you back. I tend to agree.

Just gives you another excuse to miss a workout: "oh, he's not going, guess I'll skip too"

Some find it forces them to feel committed to going, but you need someone who already has that long-term commitment to reap that benefit.

Thanks, I've been getting burnt out on Tofu so this should definitely add some variety.

Will do!

Cool, I feel like the majority of those are already in my diet so I'll just keep pressing forward with the meal plans I've been using. I've been going a little Quinoa crazy so I think I'll grab some amaranth if I can find it locally. Never tried it before.

Should I not be going full fat on any dairy stuff I consume?

TL DR: What should I eat as a vegetarian?

A vegetarian shouldn't really have any problems as long as he allows himself to eat Eggs+dairy.

I'm mainly doing SS to lose the weight

Does not compute.

Has anyone here tried GOMAD before? I'm thinking about trying it out, surprised I never looked into it before.

I did it for several months. It's great in spurts if you want to give your lifts a boost /gain weight fast. Just make sure you ease yourself into it. Start with one liter a day the first week; 2 liters a day the second week, etc. Otherwise you are gonna have to nuke your toilet from orbit, and your farts will be noxious to children and small animals.

I think that this holiday season I'm going to try to do GOENAD. (Gallon of EggNog a Day).

I tried this post in the weight loss thread but got no replies, hoping someone here can help.

Any keto dieters here?

Im trying to strip the last bit of fat i have and thought id attempt this, any resources of information would be great but the scattering of information im finding is confusing.

Im currently at 173kg/5"11/12%bf and have this plan of eating

Breakfast:
2 eggs 2 rashers of bacon
or 3 egg omelette with ham and cheese

Mid Morning:
Whey protein shake with tablespoon of peanut butter or olive oil for the fats

Lunch:
Chicken fillet with greens (spinach, brocolli, green beans) and 2 tablespoons of mayo

Mid Afternoon:
Another shake

Dinner:
Tuna with mayonaisse and brocolli <- The thought of this makes me sad
Or repeat lunch

Late night:
Protein shake again

And as i understand in the carb process just carb the fuck up with protein still? So pastas, rice, bread, pizza? (Not sure about this one)

I only plan on doing this upto Xmas.

Any ideas for lunch and dinner are welcome. I hate fish so any meals around chicken would be great.

I've been on my cut for 5 weeks and 3 days now and I've lost approx. 7kg/15,5lbs. Good news is that I've been able to maintain my strength pretty well. The only movement where I've lost strength is the press and with that I can do one rep less than when I started so I don't consider that very bad.

With the bench and deadlift I can do same amount of weight for same amount of reps though I notice that at least with bench the last rep is very hard (but I can still do it!).

Currently at 85kg and my target is around 74kg with hopefully 10-12 BF% when this is all over.

GOMAD is a useful tool for those looking to gain weight fast. If you're overweight, then don't do it. Also, if you're going go GOMAD, then ease into it. Don't drink a full gallon your first day; aim for 1/4 of a gallon and work your way up.

Tried it. Had the most rapid weight gain I've ever had in my life (20lbs in about two months). I'm also now lactose intolerant.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "carb process." All you need to lose weight is to eat a caloric deficit. That's it.

I've gone into ketosis before, however I'm usually content with going low-carb and treating ketosis as a byproduct rather than the end goal of my fat loss eating habits.

If I have to send someone a single source of fat loss information, I go with Lyle McDonald:

The Fundamentals of Fat Loss Diets Part 1
The Fundamentals of Fat Loss Diets Part 2

Additionally, how did you decide on keto for a weight loss tool? How much stubborn body fat are we talking about?

That's a lot of protein shake consumption. If you can do it and feel full and satiated, awesome. It's a temporary diet anyways. If you are feeling hungry then one of the problems worth mentioning when you consume so many shakes over whole foods is that they typically don't fill you up. Replace shakes with whole foods. Feel full(er). Lose fat.

If you want to get more creative with your meals I just pulled up this thread out of Google:
80 Low Carb Chicken Recipes.

I'm going to assume you mean that you are currently 73kg and not 173kg, too. But on that point, how were you able to come to the conclusion that you were 11% or 12% bodyfat? If you were that low you would probably be thrilled with what you look like. I know I am when I'm that low. Here's where some helpful advice comes into play: you're probably fatter than you think you are. Especially if you haven't incorporated any kind of resistance training into your life (barbells, bodyweight calisthenics, etc). If you are sedentary or even just moderately active for a short time, being 5'11" and 73kg you could still carry a great deal of fat on your body and still be within a "normal" weight range. If you are having trouble seeing your abs at this point this would be a good sign that you just need to acquire more muscle. You're giving yourself twenty days on this diet - there's only a few pounds of fat loss in that time frame that you could lose if everything goes perfectly. What's the end goal of what you want to look like? Will this diet help you get there?

Help us fill in a few of the finer details. I've given you some helpful information on your low-carb diet. Now with that, all I'm asking is if that is really going to help you in the long term. Most people who are 160lbs and 5'11" asking for dieting tips are really chasing more muscle.

He might also mean he's 173 pounds (78,5kg) since he posted the same numbers in the other thread (so the "1" might not be the typo) and confused the hell out of me:

"Last bit of fat
...
173kg
...
12 BF%
"

Dude would be pretty massive with those numbers :p

173lbs and wanting to lose weight makes more sense. At 12% bodyfat you'd still have visible abdominal muscles, albeit not as defined as some would want. Some of my sentiment doesn't apply, but giving a diet a twenty day limit seems curious. I'd say see it through until you're happy. If you end up skinny-fat at the end of it, add muscle. Rinse and repeat until the desired level of swole is attained.

Yup just basically want to see my lower abs. They're slightly visible but theres a roll there.

Lol didnt see that one. Yes im 73kg. Im not the Hulk in any way shape or form.

Ill post my current progress: http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e183/kingwoods/Results-2.gif (About a year of progress here)

I basically have a tiny bit of fat around my lower abdominals which i want rid of and it doesn't seem to be stripping at all. I know its barely visible in the pic, its just there when i sit down.

I've just heard the diet is really effective and i picked the short time scale because it doesn't sound very healthy. An alternative diet would be very welcome.

I exercise 6 times a week with a mixture of weights/cardio/martial arts but at the moment im just doing cardio and martial arts after doing 90 days of weight.

So do you recommend more weights? I quite like the size im at i just want the visible six pack.

Thanks man. Any information is welcome. The diet area knowledge for me is very limited despite knowing its the most important.

I'll look at these. I haven't bought any foods yet so this could be better.

All the links I posted should be very helpful. The first one is sort of "LG for dummies" and despite it's corny name the site is pretty damn awesome. The second link is the main LG website/blog and is also full of info but it can be a bit hard to find sometimes. The third link is a calculator you can use to play around with different calorie intakes and estimated fat loss numbers.

And if you google "leangains results" you get the idea how well LG can work.

Hmm thanks for all the replies guys, I think I'll definitely try going by the litre instead of gallon first. Hope I don't end up lactose intolerant though, that actually sounds kind of scary.

I've just been trying to bulk to 220lbs so I could start cutting finally. I'm 5'11'' and I'm currently stuck at 206lbs and I can't get past it, it's killing me. My gains are going up just fine, but I can't get up in weight. I'm hoping GOMAD can finally break this.

Eat this

Breakfast
5 scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, whole wheat toast

Lunch
Chicken cutlet wrap + salad

pre-dinner
three beef or chicken burritos

Dinner
Whatever you can think of

And between all those meals have a protein shake and have almonds/yogurt etc for snacks. I hovered around 4500-6000 calories for a year and lost around 10lbs of fat in the process while packing on muscle.

I started bulking 1 week ago, hope I won't get too fat. I'm pretty skinny with 71kg and 1.83cm.

Just imagining the world's fattest, most dense pixie, hahaha :D

You will gain some fat, there's no way around it. I started at 180, got down to about 169, have currently made my up to around 190, with about as much fat as I had back at 180 give or take a pound. I've put on some muscle for sure but there's no way around it.

Did bench at 155 for the 5x10s yesterday and holy moley is my chest sore, way deep down too. Been a while since I actually felt this noticably sore.

Month 3 of BBB challenge. Yo. 5x10 @ 185 for bench does not fuck around. I think for OHP, I am suppose to do 135 but I know that will not happen. Prolly knock it down 15 lbs or so.

I've done it for a year straight and can help probably but doing it from now to Christmas will do nothing. You'll barely start feeling good again by christmas. I'd wait. Plus, it isn't magic. It just was easier for me to eat that way and feel relatively full. Did lose 80 lbs total and like 110 lbs of fat on it though.

Everything you'd ever need to know is pretty much in the stickies here though. http://forum.bodybuilding.com/forumdisplay.php?f=61

Sooo... involuntary farting when squatting and overhead pressing (and dipping for some strange reason). Anyone else having this problem? Because it has become a real problem and I don't know how to fix it :(

LOL I know this feel. Happens to me more when I leg press than when I squat but I did poop myself squatting once. Luckily I was at my home gym at the time.

Don't know how to prevent it. It doesn't happen to me often probably because I only really eat after the gym and that's when I eat all my carbs too so there's not much going on prior.

Well I was in the gym yesterday and did some dips. In the second set two long farts slipped out. I had no control at all. The smell was horrible. Another regular sat right beside me on a rowing machine. He turned around and gave me a nasty look. None of us said anything.

I usually eat either right before training (on Sundays) or around four-five hours before (on weekdays). It's more of a problem on weekdays.

Can muscle density really be improved, and, if so, does it explain why relatively smaller lifters can lift more weight than guys that appear to have considerably more muscle mass?

Good advice. I'll just continue farting, then, and get the whole free-weight-section for myself.

My serious answer would be just to shit before you go to the gym. I eat 20-30 minutes before I lift and I haven't had that issue. If I lifted right after I ate I know for a fact I'd be lighting up the gym.

It's not a problem, it's an extra boost! Rocket power! Well not for the pressing. Squeeze your glutes harder, it'll keep the gas in and keep you stable too.

Seriously, I don't get how people can be sweating buckets and leaving puddles of sweat on machines and benches, but someone happens to do the two-cheek sneak one time and it's a federal case.

Rip 'em hardcore, inhale what you can to spare everyone else and move on.

We must be on the exact same schedule. What're you gonna do when you finish? I'm thinking I might try another round of it depending on how good or bad my results are at the end.
