I'm sure there's been a discussion about them at some point in the past but the hodge twins are fucking hilarious. I like watching their workout videos.

Also did a single rep of 245lbs on bench today, highest I've gone free weight.

I think I have a squat booty from low bar squatting so much. People keep staring at my butt in the gym. Should I switch to high bar squats or front squats?

I'm skinny fat.

6'2", 170lbs, very little muscle mass and essentially a weakling.

Because of work my only options are essentially home-based workouts for roughly the next 6 months.

Resistance Bands+P90x -or- A couple Kettlebells+DVD?

If you can afford it and have the room for it, look into creating a home gym.

If not, yeah something like what you have is better than nothing. Also look into bodyweight exercises, some of the posters here do that so they might be able to help you out.

Are you working 16 hours a day? How can you not have time to gym 3 days a week for 30-45 minutes. It's all you need, and you should be clean bulking.

3x3 Is still working great for increasing my bench, managed to add another kilo yesterday, now up to 77. Less than 3 months ago my 1rm was 70, I'm satisfied. Although I slightly lifted my butt off the bench for the last rep, still counts right.

Deadlifted 134kg 3x5 as well.

Running has always been my prefered cardio, but I can't run right now due to recovery from a Shin Splint.

Do any of you have any good home cardio workout routines, that will burn a serious amount of calories?

Someone told me about these M-100 exercises, that look pretty tough. Anyone have any suggestions?

Insanity or P90X might be something to look into.

Thinking about hiring Andy Morgan (from rippedbody.jp) as a personal trainer for three months. The issue now is basically how expensive his services are since I don't have too much extra cash as a student. Sent an inquiry and his plan seemed great and I'm currently waiting for him to send me the pricing information. Time difference between Finland and Japan make communication a bit slow though.

If his services come at a fair price then I'll probably hire him but I'm not really sure what to expect price-wise..

Anyway I could do this on my own but I think hiring a third party would definitely bring it's own advantages.

Insanity is serious HIIT though, you will probably not have enough gas to lift heavy if you're doing that regularly. You will get in crazy good cardio shape though, and the heart's an important muscle to work too!

BBB squats @ 240.

Holy shit. Quads and glutes were done. Could barely walk.

Nice, I did 225 yesterday (after the 5/3/1 deads) and my groin is all sore now cuz my knees were all over the place on the last few reps.

I also took your advice to try drop sets on shrugs and holy hell am I sore today. BBB presses will not be fun today.

Back to a point from the last page - so ATG low bar is basically not doable without back rounding or knees exploding or falling backwards or what? I only ever go parallel so I don't know what the mechanics are there.

Was always curious about that. Him and Martin, as I always wondered how much it cost for them to put a program together.

When he gets back to you with a price can you tell me, even if it's in a PM as not to post it publicly, I would really appereciate it.

Yeah I can probably do that. I don't think it's top secret information. If I don't remember you can PM me tomorrow or the next day.

Edit:
I noticed that the emails say that all of them are confidential unless stated otherwise. I guess that goes to both ways so I'm not sure if I can tell you.

Well at least what I CAN tell you is if the prices were reasonable to me. I'll get back to you on that when I hear the prices.

I honestly couldn't tell you what the results of an ATG low bar squat would be. Everything I've ever read on the subject has described low-bar squats as a parallel squat, so that's what I've done. I could easily see someone falling backwards attempting ATG with low bar positioning though.

Anyone know what the 3rd edition of starting strength changes from the 2nd? I have the 2nd... wondering if its worth it to get the 3rd.

Yeah, as I was walking up to the rack, I was just dreading having to do another set. I swear, my quads and glutes were at maximum pump status.

I've never really done drop sets so I figured that they would be something new I can try. I start at 90 lbs, do a rep of 10, rest 10 seconds, then do 80, repeat, 70, repeat, until I hit 40. Some of the BB people at the gym suggested it. I figured, why the hell not. 3 sets of those if I can.

Excellent.

I did BBB bench at 180 last night. A humbling experience.

Yeah dood, it is absolutely brutal. I think I did 185 for bench a few days ago. Could only squeeze out 8 reps on the final set. I don't even want to think about what I have to do for OHP. I want to say 130 but I think I will drop it to 125. It is scary just thinking about it.

Ok so first picture here is me circa 2008. Drank a lot, pack a day smoker, ate like dogshit.

Shortly after I quit drinking, quit smoking, and starting actually eating real food. Lost about 65lbs eating pretty good and exercising 4-5 times a week. Long story short, I've always struggled with food. Even since I've been living my "healthy" lifestyle, I am very weak when it comes to junk food. I know it's probably not the end of the world, but it's a slippery slope for me. It's a smart bet that I can't just have one, lol.

This is me today, a week into trying to lay off the cheat foods and really get my body where I want it. I'm 27 now and I've never had abs and I figure it's a respectable goal for every male at least once in his life. I'm going to try and post pictures once a week to document my progress and hopefully that, along with y'all's support, will keep me on track this time.

Nice progress!

Once a week might be too often though since it can be hard to see any real results in such a short timeframe. Two weeks would probably be better.

Finally decided to switch to 531 after doing GSLP for 3 months. I think the LP well has finally dried up for me.

I won't be doing BBB just yet, except on squats, and the reason is that I want to squat 2 times a week to keep the movement fresh, to grease the groove, so to speak.

I still want to focus on strength so I'm doing 531+Triumvirate (main lift+2 assistance exercises). This is what I've come up with:

Monday

531 Squat
Chinups
Romanian Deadlifts

Tuesday

531 Bench
Close Grip Bench Press
Lying Triceps Extensions

Wednesday

531 Deadlift
BBB Squats
Leg Press

Friday

531 OHP
Dips
Hanging Leg Raises
Curls (Straight Barbell+Hammer Curls)

Thoughts? Any feedback would be appreciated.

This wednesday was, by the way, the first time I've ever used a leg press in my life. My quads are freaking sore, even though I've been squatting at least 2x week for the past 18 months.

Congrats on kicking those habits to the curb. It's better to never have them in the first place, but I've been there. From skinny to skinny-fat, to just fat and then the meandering road to 'fit.'

Pictures once a month would probably suffice. Keep yourself accountable every day and like many of the posters here, keep us updated with specifics if you want advice. Pick some stuff out of the OP and ask questions if you need further help.

Your pull/push ratio is terrible man. Going to set yourself up for an injury with that. Squats day take out chinups for goodmornings. Bench day you need a pull, take away closed grip bench and add bent over rows. OHP day do chins. Then all will be well with the world.

Any reason why you chose chinups for the squat day? Just curious.

Because I'm 221lb and Chins take a lot out of me. If I do them in the same that as another upper body lift they just feel really freaking hard. I guess I could do them on Friday after OHP, but then I'd have to move Dips to Monday, and I fear that would impact my bench on Tuesday.

Guess I could add Pendlay Rows on Tuesday, but I'd like to keep the CGBP because my triceps are the weakest link in my pressing movements.

What is the advantage of Good Mornings over RDLs?

Ah. I typically do chins or pull ups on my deadlift days.

You need to take something out. You are pushing way too much and not pulling anywhere near enough here.

Going to buy a tub of ON whey. Which flavor is the best tasting stuff?

These are some of the options I have:
Caramel Toffee Fudge
Cookies and Cream
Delicious Strawberry
Double Rich Chocolate
Extreme Milk Chocolate
French Vanilla
Rocky Road
Tropical Punch
Vanilla Ice Cream

So this stuff is quite expensive and I want best bang for my buck tastewise. Which is the best?

Honestly I don't like any of the ones I tried. Doesn't taste good to me and there are much better powders for the same price or less.

Are you buying online or in a store?

I don't understand, why would deadlifts be banned in a gym? or is that pic a joke?

There is a chain of gyms called "Planet Fitness" and they emphasize casual lifting/working out. I get the idea behind it but for people who are more serious, this is a place that should be avoided as evident by the sign. They have a no grunting policiy as well and if you are too loud, an alarm goes off. It is terrible.

Not to mention their pizza Fridays where you can eat free pizza.

Actually, that part is fine. For me. Cause I like pizza.

Online but remember that I don't live in USA. In Finland the selection is pretty crappy in comparison to States. There's cheap swedish whey but it tastes like shit and the Finnish stuff ain't much better either. Then there's some brand called QNT but I have no idea about them.

ON is a bit pricey since it's imported but I got a sample bag a while ago and it was way better than any whey I've ever tasted. It was some chocolate flavor but don't know which one..

Oh my, link? I hope one of them insults guys for lifting to grow their legs instead of just running.

I saw them actually on TV so no link.

Yes 1 was the singing in the shower and the other was 2 bodybuilders and the guy is like "do you guys like doors?" and they are like "yea" and he throws them out the door.

What's most insulting about Planet Fitness is that they preach this idea of creating a no pressure, no judging atmosphere. Yet I've never seen a gym with such stringent rules on how one should dress or conduct themselves. Hell, part of their promotion is stereotyping bodybuilders and power lifters as judgmental morons. Incredible.

but... why, I mean, there are many different options for doing exercise, some people like the treadmill and some other like doing heavy lifts with weight, and there is nothing wrong with any of those options, it's just different approaches. I can't believe a chain enforces that kind of thinking, is absolutely unadmissible and very ignorant.

not just serious lifters shoud avoid them, everyone should, fuck that place.
