if you are sore on your upper body should you still do your lower body or wait till your upper body is healed?

don't wait. When you first start, you are going to be sore a lot! When you get more advanced you are going to find ways to make yourself fell that sore again.

I tried super-setting today for the first time. I did a split of bent over rows and overhead press. I did an 8 rep split of each starting with 8 reps bent-over row and 1 rep over head press, then 7 reps BOR and 2 OHP, and so on with about 5-10 seconds rest between. Felt good and seemed like a great alternative for cardio.

The sore part is the best part! Last night I could literally feel the fat burning off my gut. It might've been my belly saying "cottage cheese? fuck you, dude," but I'm pretty sure I could feel my whole body toning up.

The sorest part for me has always been my quads and knees. I can barely climb stairs the day after squats.

I hope you just wrote that funny, but the knees shouldn't be hurting.

This might be the dumbest shit I have ever read in one of these threads.

No, I was joking. I'm just trying to fit in.

I truly hope so.

Speaking of which...

Had my first evening workout in like a year since I go in the mornings but I had a dentist appt yesterday morning. SOOOOOO many more beautiful girls at night....and unfortunately with that, so many more brodudes.

Hate to break it to you, but 330x5 isn't that strong on the squat. It's achievable within a year, maybe less depending on the person. Good luck with your diet though.

I got it in 6 months after two set backs, fuck with me!

Four plates by the end of the summer? The suspense grows.

This is worded strangely. What are you trying to say here?

Also, are we fucking with PantherLotus? Yeah, we are. However, when you say things like feeling the fat melt off your body, older posters in the thread will want to fuck with you because it's silly and funny.

Someone posted something about weight fluctuation a bit ago, and I would like to comment on that. Weight loss stalls, even when everything is being done correctly, is not uncommon. I've been stuck at 233 for a week now, and then BAM! I wake up at 227 this morning. Lyle McDonald mentions a bit about this.

You have to know we are fucking with you right back.

That is nowhere close to the dumbest shit we get in these threads. Not even in the ballpark.

dudebro, really? You're in a thread about lifting weights. You may want to look in the mirror because you may eventually look like some of those dudebros.

You can lift weights and get muscular and not act like a total jackass. There were some jackasses at my gym...want an example? Dumb fuck puts 135 pounds on each side of a 45 lb straight bar in the squat rack. When he's done squatting he pulls all 3 45 pound weights off of one side at the same time.

Guess what happened?

The bar knew what a tough dudebro he was, so it made sure to hold those damn weights up?

that's more of a moron than anything else.

When I hear people bandy around the term "dudebro" I think that the person using the term must hate sports or sports games, doesn't like beer, and feels like they are under threat by those who do.

He put on 4 45 pound weights and did 1x20 of deep breathing squats. He left the gym not only as a champion, but a savior as well.

ORA ORA ORA.

damn impressive. One day, I am going to get there.

Thanks guys, we're cool.

Two other things for the experts:

1. I love my whey/skim shakes with a banana on the side, but would like to switch it up once in a while with a good protein bar. I used to have this amazing chocolate/icing thing (30G protein) but I'm pretty sure it was really fuckin carby (41G) and high on the fat (12G):

Any recs? Is that kinda bar better before or after a workout? If I'm trying to lean up would that bar over a whey shake be a bad choice? I'm just trying very hard to have a super-clean diet because I'm decently close to my goal already, and because I can adjust my diet pretty easily because I still have decent metabolism, considering.

2. I saw a thing to try Cassein protein shakes before bed (instead of something like cottage cheese). Why would that be better than whey, and what's the difference?

Being a dudebro has almost nothing to do with liking sports and beer.

If you're trying to remain clean, none of those processed protein bars are really going to be a good fit. They are candy bars.

There's a decent protein bar recipe a ways back in this thread, but I don't have it handy. Was basically oatmeal, whey powder, peanut butter, condensed milk, etc. I'm leaving for work so I can't track it down at the moment, but I'm sure someone else will.

Guess my interpretation is wrong...I like all those things you listed. =)

I'm referring more to people who go into the gym thinking they're the shit and generally being a jerkoff at the gym instead of getting work done. There was a group of like 8 people that all came in together to workout...how do you get shit done in a big group unless you pair off? It's funny seeing a bunch of people all gathered around 1 bench watching a guy lift and shooting the shit.

No, don't. That's exactly what I suspected and I'll just avoid them altogether. Man, that one tastes so fucking good.

DUDEBRO

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=DUDE BRO

White suburban males, usually 16-25 years of age, hailing from anywhere, USA. Characterized by their love of College football, pickup trucks/SUVs, beer, cut off khaki cargo shorts, light pink polo brand shirts (with collar "popped"), abercrombie & fitch, hollister gear, and trucker hats. Favorite bands include, but are not limited to, O.A.R., Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews Band, Avengened Sevenfold, The Fray, and often crappy radio rap (i.e. Nelly, Dem Franchize Boyz, D4L, etc.). Dude bro's are incredibly insecure in their manhood, which makes them: insanely jealous of their girl friends, overly macho, and laughably homophobic. currently, there is no cure for being a dude bro.
6 out of 10 guys at any predominantly white mall in america.

a "dude" can be positive,
a "bro" can also be positive,
but a "dude bro" is never a good thing.

Oh fuck, I like Avenged Sevenfold. =(

Definition #2 mentions they roam in packs of 5-10...that's exactly what I saw last night!

I'm definitely a dude. Cargo shorts + unpopped collar + shitty metal/rap/pop music (but sometimes jazz!), not at all macho or jealous, and I love the gays. Somewhat insecure, though.

These guys like Creed?

haha, I guess.

They're all really cool. Wish I had started doing calisthenics with them instead of slowly teaching myself for a year, but hey, it's all good. Let's see what training with them every week this summer will do for me.

Here are the guys I was training with a couple days ago.

They showed me this crazy three-round upper-body strength routine that they do: 10 muscle-ups, 20 box squat jumps, 30 pull-ups, 50 dips, and 50 push-ups.

I definitely slowed them down, taking multiple sets to complete all of those exercises but the squats. :p

Holy shit. It looks like they are doing muscle ups from a complete hang at the bottom and just knocking them out like nothing.

I wish I can get to that level in another year.

Also, what's the frequency of their workouts? I've heard that they train everyday. But to go that hard everyday doesn't sound very safe to me.

Those diamond pushups look hard as fuck. I really should start doing more body weight exercises.

Yeah, they do train every day. Couple hours a day, actually. Whenever I go to the park I always see the same group of guys. Doesn't matter if I arrive at 10am or 5pm.

1. Plain oatmeal freaking sucks. Judging from the rest of the diet, anything I can add to it to make it taste better? I saw raisins might be good, but aren't they really carby?

Try blueberries or a little cinnamon. Thats what I use to spice up my oatmeal

Hi Gaf, what's your take on intermittent fasting? Is it better than low carb diet or it's just a trend?

I've actually been doing intermittent fasting for a while now without knowing that there was a science behind it. As for which is better, I'd imagine it depends on what your goal is and what your current workout entails. I'd imagine that if you're lifting weights you're still better off getting some carbs in you. I'm doing keto right now, but I'm not in the gym for another few weeks, I'm on a cut at home.
