Well the truth is I don't really want to get big (insert n00by cliche here). I'm lifting and going extra lean to accentuate what I already have. A VanDamme to alien's Arnold, if you will.

Do you think you'll wake up one day and accidentally have like an extra bicep?

What happened/how did you know there was an issue?

I had a bloodwork a few days ago (monthly accutane bloodwork) that just showed that my liver enzymes were slightly elevated. I called the doctor back and went over my foods for the past week and got some clarification, as well as telling him that I only started this style of eating after the bloodwork. So, good news for me, he said I can keep up the giant meals, but I HAVE to cut out the protein powder/shakes (which shouldn't be a problem--I'm getting more than enough protein, just need to up my carbs). I do have to stop the accutane for 5 days though, hopefully my triglyceride spike was just an unlucky meal the day before the bloodwork, and I can still knock out my fitness/acne goals in one summer.

As far as workouts go, my workout today actually relieved some of my soreness, and I felt great afterwards. Also started using myfitnesspal sebulon and found that so far today I'm hittin my protein/carb goal but I'm way over on fat/calories (thanks in n out).

Welp just got a call from my doctor (about a bloodwork) saying I have to A) stop eating protein/eating a lot or B) stop taking Accutane. Man am I depressed, never been happier starting this program, but now I have to completely stop early in. I guess I can keep working out but I won't grow? Apparently my liver is out of whack.

I'd advise on not taking the Accutane. That stuff has some bad long term effects.

I know man, I held out for years. Dermatologists have been telling me since I was 15 to go on it, and I'd always relent, asking for more antibiotics or more creams. Welp, at 19 I'm finally sick of being on antibiotics, of trying different creams, and still getting awful results. Tired of having giant cysts on my back and neck, and so I took the plunge. Taking antibiotics for over a year worries me more than any accutane side effect to be honest. I'm on a lower dose than most people and I'm almost finished with my course, hopefully I'll be one of the positive cases (I know there's a good amount of negatives).

Well I hope since you're on a lower dosage that it works out for you. I think mine was a tad higher than normal (been a while) and it was before all the lawsuit nonsense. Still had to go every month to prove I wasn't pregnant (I'm a male) and my liver enzymes only spiked once. Besides the digestive issues I haven't had a single pimple in the past few years since I took Accutane.

accutane is amazing. I'm confused though -- accutane is bad for your liver, protein can be bad for your kidneys. Not seeing why you would have to reduce protein due to accutane?

Cross post from the weight loss thread.

I was wearing the same thing I wore to the beach last year today and decided to do a comparison shot. Not a huge difference, but I see some gains.

Any recent developments as to the health effects of Soy? Got some Edamame today which was super cheap, and tons of protein. I remember reading that men should avoid soy, but I was curious as to anything new.

I'm a right hander. I've been noticing that my left arm is actually getting bigger than my right. But, my right arm actually has more endurance. My left arm is the one that gives out first.

Whats up with that?

I have the same thing but in reverse. I'm left handed but I swear my right arm is bigger. Maybe something to do with the non-dominant arm having to work harder to move the weight or something, either way I don't pay much attention to it.

I weigh 160 at 5'6". I'm fat. I want to see more gains but I'm too lazy to cut. Should I just continue eating a shit ton of food and getting fat and strong or will I regret it.

Been about week with PSMF and so far, so good. Around 207 in that pic. Gonna cut for one more week then just stop.

While I may be leaner, from a physical perspective, I just don't like the way I look. I feel skinny and small. Fat too haha. I think I like looking bigger even if I have more fat on me. Kinda like how Daniel Bryan (WWE wrestler) is right now. Strong, has some mass, but isn't really that lean.

My GF wants me to just stick to one size as she can't buy me any clothes rofl. Things that fit last year don't fit so well now.

That's not a bad physique at all man. Look way better than I do, although i have only been lifting for a year and have barely changed my diet at all. How long have you been lifting?

Just got home from work (internship) so I'll catch up.

just wanted to say how jealous I am of alienshogun's mass. You'll look freaking crazy when you cut. I'm not super super skinny like a lot of the guys, but I could never look like that. props dude, keep it up.

Don't be jealous, I still have a long way to go. Just eat ALL the food and keep at it bud.

Good shit, and I would argue that your chest is noticeably larger.

Lookin' good bud, but what's up with your chest? Were you doing some wrasslin' neck chops?

Dude, seriously, body dysmorphia total, haha. I've put in...so much effort...over the last three years, to drop from 300 lbs to 183 and get healthy and fitter and stronger, and while I'm slim now and getting my numbers up above sack of shit levels, I'm still like a year minimum away from resembling what you've got.

Goals are good, complacency can be bad, but have perspective too ;b

Do heavier ones!

Perhaps I should repost this:

I need some new BICEP exercises. In one year I've got up massively in my chest and in my tris, but for some reason I cannot get my biceps to get any stronger.

I do:
Hammer chinups, usually a set of three. Depending on how tired I am I can pull off a sequence of 10, maybe 8, then barely 6-5.
I do sitting curls, but I'm stuck at 40 and have been stuck there for a year.
I do the pulley curl, which is slowly increasing, but I know that's not the best one.
I can't do preacher curls on the V-shaped bench--it hurts my forearms, which means I have to work on those too.

Any other effective bicep methods I can use? Size is key for me.

The problem is I am seeing NO growth or weight increase with my bicep curls over more than a year whereas all other lifts seem to be increasing steadily. I.e. I've almost doubled my chests, tris are good, etc.

Tried weighted chinups?

It's entirely possible you might be doing too much to your biceps too. They are easy to overtrain, especially since you also use them for pulling movements. I don't do any bicep focused work and my biceps seem to grow, albeit slowly.

I am a huge fan of incline bench curls. Lay the bench back as far as it will go and let your arms hang straight down. Curl one arm at a time. Letting your arm go all the way back to a straight position gives an amazing stretch that you can feel in your bicep.

The other one I like us also on incline bench but I simply stand behind the bench and lay one arm on the back of it and do concentration curls. Again trying to stretch it as low as possible.

Huge fan of both. However the most important thing, especially for arms IMO is to mix it up constantly. If you aren't getting sore, the mix it up. Don't keep repeating the same stuff your used to doing.

What's your rep range? Remember strength and hypertrophy are two different things.

How are you finding PSMF? I'm trying to decide between going on PSMF for a while or trying Ultimate Diet 2.0. UD 2.0 scares me, though. The depletion workouts look like hell.

I dont even do bicep or triceps exercises and my arms have gotten bigger.

You get your triceps done on shoulder and chest day. Biceps get done on back day.

Do it! Don't be a wimp :)

By 4 weeks in the depletion workouts are satisfying in a masochistic way.

Trust me, the carb ups on UD2 are amazing

I'm tempted.. The thing that worries me is when people say they feel exhausted and depressed during the depletion days. I'm self employed and find it hard enough to motivate myself to work as it is, haha.

Caffeine at least, and ephedrine if that's your thing, help greatly in this regard.

I felt just as lethargic on PSMF but had vastly superior results on UD2

I felt deflated and small on PSMF, similar to FallingEdge is now. I never really felt like that on Ud2. Plus you feel like a king from carb up to Monday.

Shogun I tried benching with the belt and didn't feel any difference. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, what are the physical cues I should focus on.

Ok, you've sold me on it. I'm gonna keep up my Leangains recomp for a few weeks and then I'll give UD2 a go. Any recommendations for how long to do UD2 for?

You'll only need 8 weeks max. I think I went from 18% to 9% BF in 7 weeks. YMMV

When you get to the last day, just continue your Sunday (per book) mixed diet for several weeks

Start planning your supplements and diet. It's a regimented program and so simple if you have it set up.
