How unhealthy is alternate day fasting? 24 hours.
How healthy is everyday eating?

Fasting can be good for you, and I'd suggest that everyone physically able should fast for at least a portion of the week. Those not able include some with medical conditions, the young, the pregnant, the nursing, etc. But for everyone else, spending some time in a fasted state instead of a fed state could be very beneficial for a number of health markers. But is it "healthy?" A question that broad is inevitable met with "it depends."

Here's a ye olde tyme post I made on intermittent fasting:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=37060108&postcount=17385

It doesn't cover all methods and reasons for fasting, but you'll find a vast treasure trove of knowledge before you consider any move towards it. Speaking of, ask yourself why you want to try ADF in the first place. I've fasted on average for sixteen hours a day for the past year and a half, maybe even two years. It wasn't always easy, though now I can perform the occasional 18-23 hour fast without issue. Ask yourself if you'll even be able to fast for 24 hours every other day (I've never tried this personally, it doesn't sound appealing). I perform most of my cardio fasted. You can gain weight, lose fat, body recomp or anything else with fasts. It's a tool, not a magic bullet.

5'8" 270lbs. Planning out a 7 day a week multi meal a day plan feels unappealing to me, also it'd be a lot cheaper.

This is why it pays to know how to cook, guys.

By the way, there are 4 piece of bacon in that omelet. Can you find them?

Sorry, goals are definitely to reduce body fat. I'm not sure what I am right now, going to get myself tested but I would get 15-18%.

I was doing various Squats, Dead lifts, Snatchs, Bench Press, cleans etc etc.

How low do you want to go on body fat? There are quite a few opinions on how to get there and how fast. Also, I meant to ask how heavy (as in lbs or kgs) you were lifting. That'll give us a good idea of what to do next with your training.

At 270lbs at 5' 8" you need to worry less about how to eat, and more about what you eat (at this point). Are you a lifter? How much of that is muscle? If you're not a lifter, you have a lot of work to do. First thing you need to do is monitor what's going in your face. And planning those meals is the best way to do it.

Ideally 11-12% or so. I don't know how I would look at that low of a percentage but its a good number to aim for.

In terms of how heavy I WAS lifting, I couldn't tell you 100%. I moved to London 2 1/2 years ago and left all my log books at home in a box. Even so it was about 4 years ago when I was really serious into lifting. From what I recall the Squat/DL/BP was in the 200-300lb range.

In terms of what I am lifting now, well I am limited because of my gym (work gym). Basically the most you can get on a bar is 60kg so that's my squat and deadlift. On the dumbbell it goes up to 40kg so that's what I bench (each hand).

I just started doing crossfit with my friend at another gym, so plan on doing that Monday night and use better weight systems.

This is kinda tricky, since you mentioned boxing, which makes me assume you place a certain importance on performance. Why does this place ( I hesitate to call it a gym) only have 60kg in weights?

Crossfit might be your best bet in this situation.

Managed 3x5 39kg in OHP today, so next week hopefully it's 40kg, which is finally a large green plate on each side of the bar. This is huge for me, an empty bar was a struggle 5 months ago.

Small gym, its a gym at my office so its like half a floor. Its got a free weight system up to 40kg and then small crappy bar with "weights". Has a fair amount of machines though.

Their is a gym around the corner which I might join, the thing is I would have to go before work and it makes it a pain with showers/bags.

I'm personally thinking deal with what I have and maybe increase the intensity. Then I can use a local gym by me that has a real weight system on the weekends. This is where I can do my deadlifts, squats, proper bench press etc.

I will then use the work gym 3-4 times a week and just do light high rep workouts. I am moving departments in a month also so with my new responsibilities It will be harder for me to go.

Any workout tips though for cutting fat though? I know when I was doing heavy lifts I just bulked up a lot and the fat kinda stayed.

Increased the volume on my chin ups today like discussed last week. 40 reps total with 11 sets. Supersetted them with deadlift and press after my heaviest deadlift set was done.

Deloaded deadlift a bit too since I noticed last time that I couldn't keep my lumbar spine in total flexion during my heaviest set. Better safe than sorry I guess.

So a week of 1500 calories, 180g of protein, <20g of carbs, lifts stayed the same and 30 min of conditioning on off days.

Scale didn't budge but I do notice a physical difference :)

The app body shot is a huge help.

Google has been inconclusive -

Can I put creatine powder in my protein shakes if they are mixed in milk? Or does it have to be water?

I take creatine with my milk protein shakes all the time.

Sometimes, I just take the scoop whole and wash it down with water in my mouth. It really doesn't matter.

Yep. Especially for fat loss.

Even hard alcohol 40%+?
I just read some "expert opinions" about al sorts of alcohol "postponing the fat burning process and muscle creation phases"... I have no qualm agreeing that Beer will definitely have that sort of negative impact on you, but what about something like a vodka-soda?

I remembered reading somewhere that spirits with 40% or more alcohol content cant be metabolized by your body (kind of like how splenda and other artificial sweeteners work) and therefore, unless combining it with sugary soda's or juices, wont actually make you gain weight...
Does that have any truth to it? I like a good vodka soda and rum+ diet coke...please dont take this away from me!

If you want to lose weight, you need to skip the alcohol. Period.

Yup to the lack of alcohol. And if you feel odd telling your friends you want to lose weight say you want to be DD or you're hitting the gym early and can't let drinking interfere with that.

Yea, I can understand about cutting alcohol to lose weight. But if I'm happy at my current weight and hit the gym/run in order to get more cut/stronger, will drinking prevent "muscle toning" or whatever it should be called?

You reduce the ''damage'' by sticking with wine and clear liquors. I limit it to weekends for cheat days.

"muscle toning" is really just becoming leaner which is a result of lowering bf%. Much like anything you consume, it will come down to how often you are drinking and how much. Twice a month? No real negative impact considering how on point you are with your diet/routine. Binge drinking every other day? Yeah, that won't work with your goals.

Aww yeah, sustained 20mph on the bike today for 45 minutes. Ended at 15.2 miles.

Bullshit. Alcohol has lots of calories, but moderate alcohol intake (or rare excessive intake) won't fuck you over. Just work around it if it's important.

Priorities.

If alcohol is "important," you have bigger issues anyway.

What about once a week?

This. I treat it like a cheat. I make sure to compensate and not overdo it. If it's grind time and you're really serious about losing weight I think it'd be best to cut it out entirely, but there's nothing wrong with indulging here and there(moderation). I didn't drink alcohol for some 3 months till last week, I don't feel guilty at all.

Depends on your goals I suppose.

I don't think he is asking if he can have 1 vodka and soda every few weeks.

What about once a week?

Deoends how perfect the rest of your diet is.

I'll take a cheat day with food that still actually helps my goals instead of inhibiting them though.

The fascination with alcohol continues to perplex me.

It is fine but again, I really don't know what you mean by drinking once a week. Going out on a Saturday night and having a few vodka w/water? Yeah go for it. It can be like a cheat day/night for you. But if you are drinking 40 oz and multiple beers and shots and follow that up with a Taco Bell run, it will have an impact. It is on you and how you plan on handling it.

that ain't moderation. That's straight up obesity overload nerd shit.

Anyway keep up that cut. I'm expecting a picture like this within a month

LOL, I'd need a little supplementation for that (since I'm no where close). I do imagine I'll be down pretty good by August 10th though. I'm already almost able to wear Large shirts again no problem. I'm in that zone where XL is baggy and L is a little too tight.

Just skip the alcohol entirely. Yes you can work around having it, yes you can treat yourself. You just gotta be very careful, not only due to the calories/carbs in most alcoholic drinks, but the fact that your inhibition is lowered and you're way more likely to binge eat. That is what usually fucks me over.

I'd just rather not take this risk unless it's a planned cheat. But I also have a bad habit of binging anyway, so it might just be me. I'll allow myself a couple of beers then before I know it... I've consumed 4000+ cals in an hour. :|
