Fitness |OT5| Intermittent Farting, Wrist Curls and Hammer Strength Machine Spotters

Good day fit GAF.

I just set foot into the world of fitness and sports. I downloaded the Runtastic Push-Up app this morning (it was free!) and I started doing push-ups. My girlfriend has the squatting app and does it regularly and it is already showing.

I am planning to combine the push-up stuff with running. Still have to buy some relatively cheap running shoes. I also have an app for that but I think I can do it fine by myself, or would you guys recommend using the app as well?

I hope I will be able to go through with this. I am not fat by any means, but I have a little belly and I am very skinny, I want to gain some muscle so I fit better in my shirts (and because it is healtyyyy).

So how is your knee now Cranky?

I'm the fissures in the back of the patella guy. MRI and scans showed it is cracked like a dried out creek bed.
Was told to limit low squats and pay very close attention to toe overhang on any leg moves. I never trained allowing my knees to go over my toes anyways but have still has these issues. Mostly related to competitive basketball for 20 years.

I just made my edit! I have not tried the PB&J yet. I'm not a fan of that flavor in the first place so..

I'll pick it up the next time I'm at GNC. That flavor is always there, it doesn't sell out like all the others.

WTH is a pork steak? If it's meat ot fits in with my cut!

I think it's a STL area thing. When I was elsewhere in the U.S I couldn't find pork steaks anywhere.

TBH I don't know wtf if really is. I just know if you know how to BBQ them, they are amazing.

And my porksteaks are bulktacular.


It's grilled chicken breast thank you very much. And I happen to be grilling pork chops tonight. So ha!

Again, no where near the same.

I'll pick it up the next time I'm at GNC. That flavor is always there, it doesn't sell out like all the others.

Strange fact about Reno, we have dozens of all you can eat sushi joints and they are all around 20 bucks a person. If you stick to the casinos it is actually very good. Not, sushi in Waikiki good but for $20 it's great value!

How are you guys getting more than 1 box of Quest bars from the store with the coupon? Isn't it 1 coupon per visit? I got a box of the Cookie Dough, and just noticed today the coupon doesn't expire until the end of May not April like I originally thought so I'll be out and about stocking up at different locations.

Should I have my GF do shrugs as a part of 5/3/1 BB? If not then any other recommendations to replace them?

Of course she's not going to get huge traps in an instant but anyway since they are one of the most "manliest" muscles, I'm not sure if she should be putting any extra attention to them? Should she just let deadlifts etc. work them and concentrate on something else?

Food's fun when cutting too, grilled chicken in a dijon glaze, miso crusted salmon, tuna avocado salad with bacon, bacon wrapped asparagus, dry rub pork chops...

My opinion is that with enough creativity and foresight, you don't really have to sacrifice much to eat a cutting diet.

Also I'm hungry now

You're right - I just strip all the variety and fun out so I can focus, instead if I do that I gotta get ridiculous and start craving a lotta shit I can't have.

It's great...only downside is nerve damage in the skin in front of the patellar tendon and some hamstring/quad atrophy I'm still fighting. =(

I think you guys went too deep with my question. I was just asking your personal opinions.

First off it isn't bioscience. That word seems to bet thrown around way too much. And it's not the ACL that is known to have issues. It is stress on the patella tendon and the cartilage that is on the back of the kneecap itself.
The cartilage on the kneecap can get fissures over time and becomes inflamed. Increasing pressure in the knee as the knee cap is being pushed farther out than normal. This stresses the patella tendon.
The surgery to repair these fissures SUCKS.
The ACL is injured when the lower leg and the upper leg rotate in different directions. Nothing is impossible but the odds of suffering an ACL injury while performing squats is extremely low. Like as close to unlikely as possible.

yeh you're correct. I'm tired as fuck and sleep deprived from finals, but I believe the articles I linked before were mostly discussing the biometrics behind knee stability (whether it's the patella tendon, articular cartilage or meniscus) in regards to performing deep squats and/or leg press. The actual "broscience" talk comes from the forums where users provide anecdotal stories of catastrophic injuries (ACL or otherwise) and back it up with some floozy science.

Assuming those stories are valid - my only guess is that there was some pre-existing injury or extreme stress or insane variable that caused ...whatever the hell happens to their knee. Because you're right - it's almost improbable to imagine and I certainly have never seen it myself.

As far as personal opinions - I'll repeat what I said earlier in that I don't think it really matters. A lot depends on the individual's anatomy. Just thinking off the top of my head - I imagine people with shorter legs often squat quite naturally without excursion of the knees beyond the toes. Whereas taller people tend to naturally push the knees beyond the toes. Ultimately as long as your form / technique is solid (and you're not locking out) - best bet is to probably let your individual body move as it was designed to do.

The summer cut was a vanity thing for an underwear run I do every year, so it's no big loss. And I'm only 23 , if I'm unhappy with how I end up looking in a year I can always alter things next year. Overthinking it will only set me back.
