Fitness |OT9|...You looked better before

Anyone ever get actual bruises on their biceps / triceps after a particular hard session? Both my triceps have bruises on them today and the only reason I can see for it works be yesterday's workout.

Little bitty ones, yeah, on the bicep. Never on the tricep or at least not that I've noticed, don't see all of them in the course of a day usually.

How do you guys keep motivated? I find myself skipping the gym again today and feeling bad about it. Only problem with having goals is once you hit them there's nothing else to go for :(

I'm stuck at 90. I think it's probably well too early for both of us to think of plateaus in a general sense, but I'm open to switching it up for a brief period because OHP has been my hardest exercise to show progress, for sure.
90's about my OHP cap as well as someone who started it on a deficit and has only been doing it on a deficit. I can do it for a full five sets of five reps but I definitely increase my breaks between the last few sets (90 second breaks for the first few, then gradually go up to the full three minute break between the second to last and last sets).

The way I always keep motivated in exercising - especially this summer which was pretty boring summer from that Euro-trip - is that it's a good enough reason to stay out of the house. It drives me a little nuts if I stay cooped up all day.

New goals...always. I always have 2-3 short term goals and 2-3 long term. If you knock one out, replace it with a new one.

Is this an ok workout for what I want? athletic body/build some muscle. Doing it every other day.

10 reps of push ups x 4
10 reps of barbell bench presses x 4
40 sit ups
10 reps of lifting the barbells to my shoulders then over my head

eat 2 eggs 30 mins before workout and one protein shake after

It's tough sometimes. Being healthy and setting a good example for my children is mostly what drives me nowadays.

I don't think there is anything wrong with hitting your goals and taking it easy for awhile. As long as you aren't slipping back and are maintaining your weight and fitness level to a reasonable degree why not enjoy having the pressure and time requirements lowered. Of course eventually you will likely find you have slipped a little too far and then, bingo, new goals, same as the old goals.

I think from these anecdotes, OHP is no ordinary exercise. It's the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered movement you ever set eyes on.

Establishing several goals. I have set several short incremental ones, and several long term goals.

Incremental goals for me right now are just hitting the next full plate on each lift. This resets everytime I hit the next plate.

A more long term goal would be hitting a 1000 lb powerlifting total (Back Squat, Flat Bench & Deadlift)

Then a even more long term goal would be like, Deadlifting or Squatting 5 or 6 plates. It would take a long time to get there but it would push you to keep pushing foward.

Do some barbell rowing to prevent imbalances from pressing movements.

Do something for your hamstrings and Quads.

Thanks guys, I guess I need to think to myself what my goal should be. I've got a kid coming in January and I'm sure this will severely impact my gym time. Should probably make the most of it

What drives me to go to the gym is to get a better body, and the fact it allows me to eat a lot more food. I love food.

There's a goal for you. Go to the gym to teach your child the importance of being physically fit. Go to the gym to demonstrate to your child the power of discipline. Go to the gym to maintain your health so you can be an active grandparent when you're in your 50s/60s/70s.

Just an update guys, the deed is done. I hung out with Pyscho and his lovely wife.

They're on their way to the next venue of the trip.

International FitGaf meeting complete.

Since this is a shoulder injury, I figure a few of you might have some advice. Got hip checked into the board while playing indoor soccer last night and jammed up my shoulder pretty good against the glass. A guy from work suggested this could be a partial muscle tear.. anyone have a history of something looking like this?

The other shoulder is much more rounded and any indentation is minor at best. There sort of a constant dull pain and it's tender and hurts if I lift my arm. It's not throbbing today by any means though.

I assumed that despite his constant self deprecation, psycho was the most shredded dude here. You get him to show you those abs?

So I forgot to report the birthday feast results. Me and my two oldests kids killed 2.5 large pizzas while the other 7 people finished the other 1.5. lol We estimated I had about 15 slices. The server was legit impressed. He thought I misspoke when I ordered four. Nope. Bring it! Gone.

Is that a PR?

I have one question, probably a stupid one but whatever, I gotta ask, I was using the threadmill and it said I burned 300 calories.

in form of what?

is that primarly fat and less of other things or how does the burning get distributed?

a) the treadmill is likely lying to you, you probably burned 150-200.
b) you will have burned off mainly carbohydrates, but it's irrelevant as the important thing is your bodies homeostasis.

are we suppose to be impressed by this?
Don't feel threatened FE. I'm sure you can out eat me under the right circumstances. Like on a leap year day under a full moon. Besides, we know who our true king is. MTP the savior.

Anyone got a pre-workout suggestion for nice pumps? I got Muscle Elements "Pre Cre" last time and it was a weird experience. Until the very end of it, when certain ingredients started separating, I wasn't crazy about it. Stomach would sometimes feel strange after taking it and the pumps weren't great.

When things started separating, I took whatever the darker, granulated shit is by itself the pumps were amazing. The other stuff must have the caffeine/other stims in it because it doesn't give me the energy boost it used to, but I still put a bit of that to give me just the right amount with no effects on the stomach.

Anyway, I guess I need to switch.

My weightlifting belt no longer tightens, and thus no longer fits. Guess I have a small waist now, even if it doesn't feel like it!
I wish I had problems like this. :p

Missed this, Sade. Thank you and glad you had a great time!

Thanks brother.

Just got home about to make some popcorn and grab some Red Vines to watch BvS with the wife.

Appetizers:
Whatever bread they brought to the table. Probably equivalent to roughly 5 standard slices and the butter that came with it
French Onion soup
Entree size chicken Caesar

Dinner:
12oz filet
Family portion of lyonnaise potatoes. Said it served 2-3 but I don't believe them.

Not bad for dinner. I can eat more for sure but that's where ppopcorn and red vines come in during the movie :D

Have some Reese's on the side - just in case ;)
You are very welcome. Also it certainly sounds like you had pretty great time yourself. Hopefully you enjoyed the dessert. ;)

One of my daughter's first goals when she stared lifting was squatting 135x3 and the reward will be sushi. Tomorrow she's going for it and I'm fairly certain she'll get it. Pretty cool that 7 months ago she could barley squat the bar and now she's here.
I think she is my new idol!

Just finished the first workout of my 8th week of Starting Strength and I think I've been making good progress thus far.

Progress:
Squat: 115-->200
Bench: 110-->160
Deadlift: 115-->235
OHP: 65-->100

Started at ~175lbs and now I'm fluctuating between 187-190lbs.

Each workout has been taking me around 45 minutes and at only 3 days a week I've noticed considerable changes in my body already. At 6'1 175lbs I was pretty much just skinny fat but I've filled out quite a bit and people are starting to notice it! Chest is noticeable, biceps and shoulders are bigger, and my thighs are starting fill out my pants and shorts.

One of the best decisions I've made thus far in my life is starting to lift. It's just given me a lot more confidence and now I'm set on hitting a goal for next summer. Maybe one day even get a 1000 squat/bench/dead.

Thanks guys. She's still pretty damn happy. Very cool to see. I know the feeling all too well. And a picture of the sushi it is Szu. Post PR cheat meals are the best.
