You guess it. Terry Jones is at it again. This is the famous turd who ignited firestorm over Quran burning threat when Ground Zero Mosque was being built in NYC last year. This prompted National security people to step in and have a talk with Terry Jones and how his actions would undermine our soldiers' hearts and minds efforts in Afghanistan. After everything seemed to go back to order, suddenly this happens:

Terry Jones, Quran-Burning Pastor, Hangs Barack Obama Effigy Outside Florida Church

The Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Fla., has hanged an effigy of President Barack Obama from a gallows on its front lawn, a move DWOC pastor Terry Jones said was in response to Obama's recent endorsement of same-sex marriage, as well as his stance on abortion and what Jones called his "appeasing of radical Islam."

According to the Broward-Palm Beach New Times, the U.S. Secret Service is currently investigating Jones in response to the display.

"The Secret Service is aware of this incident and will conduct appropriate follow-up," Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary told the paper's "The Pulp" blog.

The effigy is suspended from a makeshift gallows with a noose of yellow rope, has a doll in its right hand and a rainbow-colored gay pride flag in its left.

In a telephone interview with The Huffington Post, Jones said the flag was meant to call attention to Obama's stance on same-sex marriage and that the baby doll is there because the president is "favorable toward abortion."

Jones also said that radical Islam is "the most dangerous threat to life and national security in America."

There is also an Uncle Sam dummy standing at the base of the gallows outside the DWOC. Jones told HuffPost that the Obama effigy had originally been positioned to be hanging Uncle Sam when the display went up two weeks ago, but that the church changed the display on Wednesday.

The words “Obama is Killing America” are printed on a trailer nearby.

The DWOC came under intense scrutiny in 2011 after Jones burned the a copy of the Quran, a move which sparked three days of violent rioting in Afghanistan that resulted in the deaths of at least 21 people, including seven U.N. workers.

In addition to its higher profile controversial moves, the Dove World Outreach Center has also been criticized for its internal rules, which The Smoking Gun has called "cult-like."

In the church's Academy Rulebook, written by Jone's wife and published in 2007, prospective ministers are directed to cut off most contact with family members.

This is not the first time that an effigy of the country's first black president has been hanged.

In March 2010, a teacher at a failing Rhode Island school hanged an effigy of Obama in his classroom. That same month, another dummy was found hanging on Main Street in the Georgia hometown of President Jimmy Carter.

In 2009, a Kentucky grand jury refused to indict two men who hanged an Obama effigy on the campus of the University of Kentucky. The men had been charged with burglary and disorderly conduct, the latter count associated with hanging the effigy. The lawyer for the two men said that the disorderly conduct charge violated his clients' rights under the First Amendment.

Here's Mr Jones and his mustache:

Have a pleasant conversation with Secret Service, you douchebag.

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider

He is no different than many of the commentators on several blogs and websites. If we're going to write articles on people like this, then I'd rather we spice it up a bit and do an article on someone else for once. Jones reminds me of Grandpa Simpson 'old man yells at cloud'

Well he just took his deep-seated idiocy, manifested it in physical form, and then lit it up so bright you could see it from space.

I'm sure this will work out great for him.

Effigies are a freedom of speech thing.

It's still against the law to threaten the life of the President. I'm sure the Secret Service will investigate this; that's what they do. Even if they investigate 100 wild goose chases, they have to on the off-chance that that even one of them involves someone serious. I doubt anyone thought that Ted Nugent actually planned to kill Obama, but it's still the sort of thing that the Secret Services follows up on, and rightfully so IMO.

To be fair, I remember seeing a *lot* of W. Bush effigies. Yes Bush was a horrible fucking president but if you're going to allow one...

Do you remember people hanging/burning Bush in effigy in the United States? I don't recall anything like that happening, though if you could link to a news article on the subject I'd read it. Even if that was the case then, however, I can't imagine it was "allowed" by the Secret Service.

Oh god here we go.

Guys just look at him, laugh, and then ignore it.

This shouldn't even be news. Why is it news when some idiot does something.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Should go steal his gay pride flag and turn it into a fabulous scarf. :|

a quick google search lead me here: a compendium of death threats made at Bush protests

Again, I'm not defending Bush (his presidency is a stain on our nation's record) but I don't think mutilating an effigy of the President counts as a threat to him/her. It's tasteless and offensive, but not illegal.

Where have a heard this story before...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dove_World_Outreach_Center

The Dove World Quran-burning controversy arose in July 2010, when Terry Jones, the pastor of the Christian Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida, U.S., announced he would burn 200 Qurans on the 2010 anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

Oh that's right, this group. This is the group they tried to put a public burning for the Quran and we had death threats against the troops in Afganhista a couple years ago as a consequence because the media made such a big deal out of it. Ignore this group at all costs they aren't worth any exposure.

The biggest news to me in this thread is how off the deep end Ted Nugent is fucking christ.

Huh, okay, I honestly didn't know about that. I find that to be just as disgusting. I think we agree that mutilating effigies shouldn't be illegal, but I wouldn't blame the Secret Service for investigating any of those cases. It's their job to be ridiculously thorough. That said, if it's found that there was no real threat (as I'm sure happens in most of those cases) then I wouldn't want to see charges pressed. I don't know what charges they could press, anyway.
