You finished 3rd and won the FA cup after spending 300 Million pound on players. Your nowhere near the top. Until players actually want to join City on merit and not just for the £££££ and until you regularly challenge for both the league and the champions league its best to keep phrases like that well and truly hidden away.

The latest in the Alexis Sanchez transfer saga speaks volumes. The guy wont even board a plane to Manchester despite City offering him mega money. Then again that might of been poor journalism lol.

At the end of the day, if people think "YOU BOUGHT YOUR WAY TO THE TOP" is going to ever wipe the smile off my face after a win, they'll be sorely mistaken.

I'm not injecting conviction, I'm just using a bit of common sense. A lot of your players are on high wages, that's well known. An assumption, albeit a pretty safe one, is that not many clubs are going to want to match these high wages for said players, should City want to sell them. Therefore the player has 2 options in this case: 1) leave but face a wage drop or 2) stay and sit out his contract at City for however many years on his high wages. I would assume many players would be content to take the money, given how important it is in many transfers these days.

As for those stadium rights, Arsenal's naming deal, the most expensive at the time 5 years ago, was £100 million spread over 15 years, or approximately £6.67 million a year. The crucial point with deals such as stadium naming rights, is that as far as the FFP rules are concerned, any such deal needs to prove it is conducted "at market value", or that another club could get a very similar price for the same deal. So even though you will get an increase on <£7 million a year, it won't be "megabucks" when spread over the years of the contract, otherwise there's a high chance it will be deemed to be above market value and will be discounted when taking the revenue into account for the FFP calculations.

Genuinely interesting, so thanks for that. In regards to the issue of high wage bills in getting rid of players, I can see that being a problem with a few players, specifically the older ones, but I think most will be happy to leave to play football elsewhere. Adebayor, Jo, Santa Cruz, Boateng, Bellamy etc, already want to leave. SWP and Viera want to stay, so you probably have a point there.

In regards to the stadium rights, I see what you're saying, but it would be remiss of me to question the business acumen of our owners, considering the job they have done so far. Sure, the stadium naming rights might only allow us to pocket 5 million a year, but this is all part of the Sheik's plan. This is why we've been (slightly) more quiet in the transfer market thus far. Out big spending days are behind us, largely. We have a strong core now, and any additions will either be replacements, or offset by trimming the herd in other places.

Don't forget, players like Tevez and Balotelli will leave before the guidelines take effect, and there's 50 million right there alone. Like I said, my faith in the owner's is quite real. We'll be fine.

Yeah I saw the photo, thought it was shopped at first but then looked closer and found that it obviously wasn't. Downing would be nice, but I'll be damned if we're paying £19m like Villa want us to.

How City deal with and take advantage of (or otherwise) player amortisation could be one of the deciding factors in whether they meet FFP requirements or not. Let's take Balotelli as an example - signed on a 5 year contract last year for £22.5 million.

Most of us think of transfer profits and losses in terms of these initial fees - so if Balotelli is sold for £20 million, it would be considered a £2.5 million loss. This isn't the case for the actual club however, as amortisation drastically changes the profit/loss calculations.

For the purpose of the accounts, a player is assumed to depreciate in value by an equal amount each year, in Balotelli's case (£22.5 million / 5 years) = £4.5 million a year. His original fee will decrease by this amount in each year of his contract, and should he stay for 5 years, his value will be zero in accounting terms (not counting wages). So say you sell him after 3 years, his value will be £9 million. Should you get a club to pay £15 million for him then, City will have made a £6 million profit on Balotelli, rather than the £7.5 million loss many assume would be made. As I said this doesn't factor in wages, and those wages will still be the deciding factor in City's revenue calculations - because of the need to attract quality players a couple of years ago, City's wages are astronomical compared to most other teams.

Here's a similar example with how we managed to make an accounting profit on Babel when we sold him to Hoffenheim: "As Swiss Ramble explains, in 2007 we signed a 20-year-old Babel from Ajax for £11.5m on a 5 year contract so the amortisation was £2.3m a season. After 3.5 inconsistent seasons his value on the books was just £3.4 million. His £6m transfer to Hoffenheim will actually bring a £2.6m profit to next year’s accounts."

You don't consider 30 million a significant amount of money?

Not when the active verb was 'straddled'.

And not that it will really help anything, Tottenham and Leyton Orient's appeal to have the Olympic Stadium deal reviewed has been rejected.

If you want transfer talk then there are rumours coming from Italy that United might put in a bid for Edison Cavani.Got this from Red Cafe though so take it with a pinch of salt.I'd love it to be true though as he's a brilliant striker.

Whats the deal with Venkys anyway? Do they have serious money to invest in making Blackburn a better team?

Read a few days ago about problems Venkys are facing with players not buying into their vision.

Phil Jones went to UTD
Chris Samba has a 12m Release clause and wants to move to Arsenal
Junior (David) Hoilett wont pledge his future to Blackburn despite only having 12 months left on his contract.
Sebastian Larsson a target chose Sunderland instead.

Doesn't seem too great for you lot at the moment.

Would be genuinely jealous if somebody signs Cavani. The guy is excellent but after the way he performed last season he's surely going to cost about 40m.

Edit - Suprised nobody is moving in on Hamsik or Lavezzi.

I'd agree about Cavanis price, which is why I think only City,Chelsea or Madrid could afford him.Maybe Inter if they really wanted him.I'm sure we'll start to hear more rumours once the transfer window officially opens. The one player I'm really inerested to see who's after is Eden Hazard. He could be a future superstar. The same can be said foe Javier Pastore.

Those two have committed themselves to their clubs for at least one more season. Palermo want HUGE money for Pastore right now and Hazard wants to play the in Champions League with Lille. They're both future superstars, but I doubt they'll move this summer. Unfortunate as Hazard was one of our top targets.

Theres some money there to be spent but not megabucks.

Things aren't too bad, players like jones will go when the likes of united sniff around, Samba has wanted to play at the top for a few seasons now but there is no clause and Hoiletts dad is a hardass and makes his deals for him.

I imagine we'll make one or two decent signings though

Yeah Pastore would be at least 45m.I know Hazard wants to stay at Lille for another year.I've also heard he'd only be interested in a move to Barcelona which is shit for every other team in Europe.

No one cares that you are happy about City winning. You are totally missing the point.
People are arguing with you because of the erroneous claims you are making and then trying to spin your way out of by suggesting it was all about the semantics.

As for the spending on the club showing City's expansion... all it shows is how much the owners have to spend, not the potential the club has as it's own entity.
That said, of course there is potential to expand. Every club has potential and City more than any of the other Top 4 with regards to worldwide fanbase simply because it is currently so much smaller.

It's funny, I learned this stuff in Accounting but it wasn't until I applied it to transfer fees that it stuck!

That ref in the Burkina Faso - Germany match is fucking horrible. Decided the game after like 27 minutes by giving a penalty that wasn't one and red card that wasn't one. I kinda feel bad for them, although it's great to see Germany winning again.

Jealous of the Glory that is Johnny Depp
I love how the son of Udinese owner says that Sanchez has no preference between Man City or Barcelona. Bitch please, if he really didn't have any preference he would've gone to City already with the offer they made. It's obvious that what's holding down that deal is Sanchez refusing to talk to Man City.

so ashley young is a man utd player... Has he ever worn anything apart from the no 7 shirt for Aston villa?

So we got a no.7 winger and a proper free kick plus penalty taker now. 3 in 1... :p

Its only been two seasons that ronaldo has not be with us but it feels a lot longer...

Don't think he's won anything in his career as of yet. Doubt he will get the No.7 shirt. I don't think SAF will take it away from Owen, should have never given it to him in the first place tbh. If anybody does get it it should be Nani anyway!

Sorry to ask again but does anybody who watches German footy know much about Papiss Cisse?

Does he have the tools to make it in England?

Well I only caught the end of the Bundesliga season on ESPN, we have German-GAF who will be better placed to comment but since they're not about right now...

Cisse is good player, good power and pace, pretty much typical for African players. He was the 2nd highest scorer in the Bundesliga last season in a team (Freiburg) that didn't set the league alight. Tended to play the lone man up front for Freiburg. Had a great finishing season. At 6ft he's got aerial ability but might struggle with the adjustment to English refereeing. At least from what I saw of him.

At £6million in todays market he'd be a steal. Anything above £10million is risky, but that's where you have to go to ward off the Russians these days with their oil and gas cash.

Here's his goals highlight reel.
