MPW said:Ronaldo: I'd have joined City
Cristiano Ronaldo has pledged to stay at Real Madrid but revealed that if Jose Mourinho had left the club at the end of last season he would probably have followed his coach out of the exit door, with Manchester City the forward's most likely destination.
"Jose Mourhino is staying at Madrid so I stay. If he went to Chelsea then I would have left. I would have gone to Manchester City. But now he's staying, I'm staying."
Ronaldo dismissed reports of a feud with Mourinho, insisting that he is on good terms with his coach, despite a public objection to what he perceived to be negative tactics in Real's Champions League exit at the hands of Barca in May.
"We went to a wedding together last week and we're on good terms and we have the same agent," Ronaldo said. "He [Mourinho] is a nice person and we live in the same street."
lol jose mourinho does it again, players just fuckin love playing for him!
i wouldn't mind seeing ronaldo leave for 150m!
Kozak said:Thats bullshit.
I'm 100% sure that his agent told him to say this bullshit or someones been putting words into Ronaldos mouth.
Ronaldo went to Madrid because it was his boyhood dream not because of Mourinho.
If this is straight from Ronaldo's mouth than hes just trolling City.

Roberto Mancini has said Carlos Tevez will not be leaving Manchester City this summer, after the club failed to agree a swap deal with Internazionale for the Italian club's striker Samuel Eto'o. Mancini also said a deal for the Partizan Belgrade defender Stefan Savic has been done and hinted at an interest in Arsenal's Samir Nasri.
"Yes, of course Tevez will stay, he is a fantastic player," the former Inter manager Mancini said. "There was talk of an exchange with Eto'o but Inter did not want to sell. I would say a deal for Savic has been done, but Nasri? No, not yet."
City have been linked with a variety of players in the transfer window and Mancini did nothing to quell speculation, naming a selection from Serie A. "I like Ezequiel Lavezzi, Marek Hamsik and Edinson Cavani. I like Javier Pastore a little less. Then, when I think of Udinese, I can think of Pablo Armero and Mauricio Isla. And I must say Antonio Di Natale. It's a pity that he is now getting on in years."
Nasri himself was reported on Saturday to have bemoaned his lack of trophies since arriving at Arsenal in 2008, saying that money is not his motivating factor. Negotiations have stalled on a new deal at the Emirates and, with the Frenchman's contract running out next summer, Arsenal may choose to cash in on him now rather than wait and lose him on a free transfer. Nasri's situation has sparked reported interest from both Manchester clubs and Chelsea.
"We already earn huge wages," Nasri said. "The priority is to make a big career and to win titles With no titles under your belt, you can't be in the list for the Ballon D'Or. I came to England to get trophies because I haven't won anything in my career. I am hungry for titles. I play football because I love this sport and want to feel the emotion of winning. Lifting a trophy all together, this is the beauty and sense of team sports."
yellow submarine said:Wow, is everyone trying to leave before they're stuck with the cheque or something? It's not like Arsenal got relegated or something! They were in the top 4 for the league and went pretty far in the CL.
Hey Kermit, do you think City will sign Nasri?

Pundits have been suggesting that the new Liverpool management will adapt the methods, from baseball to soccer, that served them well in identifying undervalued talent but this is the first concrete example I've heard. Does anybody know anymore about this? The Mirror links us with the left footed Jimmy Carter, Stewart Downing. I think you know how I feel about him, but listening to the radio this week I heard an interesting fact about him. On Newstalks Off The Ball show (Irish radio folks), never late Ken spoke about Downing as a potential Liverpool signing. You see, Liverpool have been looking at stats of players and while most of us live on goals and assists, those further into the whole stats thing look at something called chance creation.
This is the stat which measures the number of chances for a strike on goal, missed by the likes of Chamakh, each players makes. Near the top of that list is Jordan Henderson, Liverpool paid £20m. And also near the top of that list is Stewart Downing. Who knew? Not that this makes me any more open to signing the useless cunt, but there you go.

Kermit The Dog said:Might not be entirely relevant, but I'm pretty amazed of the lack of stat-tracking that seems to exists around football. Perhaps I'm simply comparing it too much to Aussie Rules, where each and every component of the game is tallied, recorded and meticulously analysed by experts and the like?
In football, you never really hear stats on passes completed, tackles, contested ball wins, distance ran, successful runs made, etc. I just imagine it would be a invaluable guide to judge whether a player will fit within the framework of a particular team, but it seems intensive stat-tracking/analysis isn't deemed important in football, for whichever reason.

Also no we should not take 13.5m for Arshavin, not with everyone else leaving and why are we going to bid 20m for Downing when we could get Mata for 23m?

I can only really speak for the Bundesliga (as I'm not that interested in the details for other leagues) but the official Bundesliga website keeps track of like everything. It's all presented with nice graphics. You can't tell me there isn't such a thing for the Premier League?
And I know Bundesliga teams and the German national team look at the stats and tell the players where to improve. Again, I don't believe that teams like ManU, Chelsea and so on don't do that.
