So lads, what do you think the chances are for us to break onto CL place?

I might as well forget our break back in the day :(
Unlikely. United, Chelsea, Arsenal, City, Spurs and Liverpool will be a tough group to break into.

That came out of nowhere. I was trying to get some discussion going on about us since its barley being talked, and here you are being a knobhead.

Don't make me send Carroll after you! or maybe Suarez, he'll bite you! or maybe Carra, he'll MAKE YOU CRY LIKE nANI!

:lol This place is heating up!

Anyway, whilst it's unlikely Everton could break in the top 4, they could still have a very good season...if they start in August and not January as usual. Money is basically non-existent for you guys though, so in this market I don't see you buying too many players. As long as you keep hold of what you have you've done well.

Ok, let us be more serious. Everton won't break into top 4 because they don't have the squad for it. They have a squad that on a good day can compete with most teams, BUT they don't have enough depth. They have a good starting eleven, but they almost never play those eleven players because of injuries. They need another top striker and a few more players. They are a 6th-7th position team. They need to have an extremely good year with very few injuries to take a CL place.

Really felt bad for you guys that year. :(

I don't think a CL place is at all likely but an Europa League spot is quite possible if your strikers start scoring and your players don't decide to start their season in November.

FM question: Are players always dicks in private talks ?

No. it happens, but most of the time they agree to do what I tell them. Especially if you praise them after a good run of form, or if any of your other interactions with them increases their happiness.

Lol

I just praised Piatti after a pretty storming debut and he's gone sulky. I actually think he could be a decent real life United target.

Some people actually don't react positively to praise. Especially not after one game. it happened to me a couple of times too. I usually praise them if they have 5 good games in a row.

I was thinking this too. Might catch a stream if I can.

Yeah - I was going to buy it on Sky - but I don't know who's on the undercard and considering the fight will be well over inside the 12 I'm not sure 15 quid is worth it.

*Top 3 argument*

Third place guarantees you entry to group stage, but 4th place means you have to compete in a play-off for group-stage entry.

Granted it's your opinion, but I don't think any judgements should be made about teams' squad depths and abilities to compete for the title until the transfer window closes.

As for the CL, why does that matter? There are still 4 places which give a club a chance to get into the Champions League, so there are still 4 CL places. 4th place has to overcome an extra hurdle, but it can hardly be compared to 5th and the Europa League.

You'll seal up 7th or 8th quite handsomely, as per usual, will probably pull out two comprehensive victories of City and Chelsea, as usual, but then flounder against the bottom tier clubs. Moyes is fantastic but your list is pretty bare.

Do you think Moyes will stick around if Everton finish 7th or 8th again?

Because one is guaranteed to play CL, and the other is not. Guaranteed was the key word. That's all I was saying in response to his question.

There's always gonna be a top 4 in terms of CL places. That 4th spot not being guaranteed is almost irrelevant, the side placed 4th usually makes it through anyway, esp if they're seeded which they all will be from now on.

I reckon Kermit meant a "Top 3" in the sense that there may be 3 sides battling for the title (United, City and Chelsea) and 3 sides behind battling for 4th (Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs). Which is quite possible actually. But I doubt it'll pan out that way myself. There will be too many ups and downs and the title race almost always comes down to 2 teams in the last month or so. When was the last time 3 teams were in running with 3/4 games to play? Still, it's possible this season for sure.

I think City are a couple seasons off challenging for the top. They've progressed remarkably fast, but still.. doing well in both the Champions League and the League is their biggest task.

As for 4th being irrelevant, I'm sure Arsenal will feel different. Even though they're seeded, this is who they could be facing this season:

Udinese
Standard Liege (If they get through QR3)
Twente (If they get through QR3)
Panathinaikos (If they get through QR3)
Dinamo Kiev (If they get through QR3)

And the timing of the qualifier aint great either

Newcastle (a)
CL QR4
Liverpool (H)
CL QR4
Man Utd (a)

I don't know what's wrong with this current crop of players in Argentina, they are all extremely talented at club level, but then at international level they play like shit. I don't really get it.

Also I think Batista is retarded, he had to know Bolivia was going to play very defensive so why put a midfield of 3 number 5s? My midfield would've been Banega (a number 5, but with decent playmaking abilities and good touch on the ball), Mascherano (a pure number 5) and Pastore (a creative attacking midfielder to better link up midfield and attack, thus preventing Messi from having to go over argentina's own half to get a touch on the ball). I also don't get Lavezzi over Aguero...

Only saw some highlights but agree on Messi, he looked like he was playing far too deep just as he was in the World Cup.

French paper L'Equipe is reporting that Nasri has rejected a new contract at Arsenal and for now Man United and Chelsea are the two clubs taking a serious interest in him. Looks like we could have another saga on our hands. No doubt Arsenal will offer him across Europe before they sell within England. Can see the Italian giants becoming interested.

Going to have to pass on it, not enough time and I have already got a big backlog on Steam.

If anyone is getting poor download rates, the Greek servers seem to be doing fine.
