McLeish says Downing not for sale.

So next step is Downing has to hand in a transfer request if he's going to move.
Yes, and I suspect he'll have to do it soon. Now the Adam saga is over I doubt Comolli and the gang will have the patience to sit through another arduous battle with McLeish. If I was Comolli I'd wait a couple of days to see if Downing pushes in our direction and if not go head first for Mata.

I don't think Modric would want to play for Manchester City. If he goes anywhere, which looks incredibly unlikely, it will be to Chelsea.

One thing is for certain. Spurs will have to increase his £40K a week. He'd get 4X that at City of Chelsea.

Seriously? Fuck off Barca. Either make your final offer or give up. I don't think I can wait on this bullshit all summer. Either let him go or say you're staying. Damn.

And Valencia has come out and said that they'd sell at 25m. Either way, that's the price that the club has set, and Arsenal has allegedly met the release clause. I just hope Liverpool are in it as well.

Also, City bought Silva, which pretty much disqualifies any standard of valuation.

Sources?

Also this:

The Sun, having probably found the information on the answering machine of a dead baby, then tells us that ‘wantaway’ Cesc Fabregas, who wants away from the club, in case you didn’t know, has told teammates he’ll ‘never play for the Gunners again’. This is, of course, backed up with quotes, sources and comes from a reliable journalist who has no track record of talking absolute horseshit. Oh.

There's a rumour that the Turkish association has talked 2 or three players from the German U17 team into playing for Turkey after the U17 World Cup. Hope it's not true, I really like all those guys after watching the World Cup. And there are some promising players with Turkish ancestors in the team like Can, Yesil, Günter or Yalcin...

Arsenal is going to beat Liverpool to Juan Mata. Jumping in when the Downing transfer is on the fence - smart move. Sad to say he'll do brilliantly there.

Mata says he wants to stay, Valencia says he is staying and not for sale. So how did you come to this conclusion?

There's some random ITK claiming Arsenal have met his release clause. Personally I'm not one to give ITKs much credit or place so I'm not resigned to him going there up until I see the deal done on a proper website.

Until then he's a player at a club that need to sell him to make money.

I would just like to know if there is actual interest on our part or if this is just someone talking out their ass. It seems like there is so much of that these days. I wouldn't be surprised if Arsenal had no interest in Samba or Cahill. I know we like to keep quiet on our dealings, which leads me to believe most of the stuff said about our "interests" is crap.

But don't fret! Doni is clear in your sites haha

"We should close the deal by the end of the day," his agent Ovidio Colucci told Impero Romanista.

"Of course anything could happen before the signatures are added to the contracts but I can confirm that there is only Liverpool for Doni.

"The only concrete offer has come from Liverpool and we hope to wrap everything up by this evening."

Mata - Graham Hunter was just on SSN, and also confirmed yday, that two English clubs were negotiating directly with Mata and his agent. That would suggest they have permission to do so. He just said now on SSN that his €25m had been met and Arsenal were definitely in the race. Of course he is not an official source but better than ITK's and tabloids.

Nasri - Phillipe Auclair was just speaking about the Nasri deal. He said that sources had told him Nasri was all but set to sign a deal in March between the CL 2nd round games with Barca. The contract signing was delayed and Nasri's people began meeting with Man United. Next thing you know this is where we are.

He also said Gervinho is a very good player.

Am I the only one kind of wondering how Gervinho is going to fit in? He seems more of an all-around depth player. I know that Walcott and van Persie seem to be hurt a lot and he can play in both positions, but TBH, even though I haven't seen much of him, I would prefer to see Walcott and van Persie in front of him in the depth chart. Can he play on the left as well? Plus he will be leaving for ACN in January which hurts us.

bunch of rumour about Arda Turan going to Chelsea. First it was £7 million plus Drogba, then it was £15 million bid, followed by £18 million and being desired by Villas Boas.

I'd like to see that, anyhow. Would be a credit to a team like Chelsea.

Glad to hear some clarity. Young guns blog -been reliable for me - said Arsenal were interested but Valencia said no and large sums would be required to tempt them, in addition Mata stated he did not want to leave. When the Guardian, young guns, BBC and SSN start reporting things I usually believe not only is there smoke but there is a fire so we shall see.

As for Nasri I think Arsenal have no choice but to sell him. The club said they would if he did not sign a new contract by July the 1st and I see no indication that he wants to sign a new contract till now, so I rather we sell him and evaluate options ASAP.

Gervinho had more roughly the same number of assists than the golden child Hazard at Lille and more goals so I am sure he is a good player - both in double digits.

So City have got a naming rights deal CoMS...wonder how much Etihad are paying and if it's close to "Market value".

I wonder if all council house tenants can secure naming right deals? =)

Guardian reckons Wes Brown was about a million quid which would explain why we were 'happy' to give him a 4 year deal.

And that the Gibson deal may be back on - we're going to have more centre midfielders than Liverpool at this rate with him and Vaughan.

Hope this is true, wonder why he didn't sign the deal back in march. If it was due to the meetings he had with united, then I think we'll sign him.Hope this nasri saga is done over the weekend. Dutch paper stating that Sneijder's dream club is united and that if they offer 35 million he'll leave. Talks have already been held. not sure, but are united going for both Nasri and Sneijder?

I've given up on sniejder. But Nasri would be awesome. I think Arsenal have to realize that at this point in time they are competing with Man city. So stop giving them all your players Arsene!

Of course I'm saying this because they will win any bidding war against us. If it's about money outright

I don't think United could afford this, and where would they both play? Just seems like overkill if you ask me.

Oh of course it's not about money! Nasri wants to win the Ballon d'Or. I am sorry, but as much as I like him, this is simply not going to happen. He's a good player, but he will never be that good. He's had 5 good months and now he's dreaming.

I give us about a 5% chance of getting Nasri and about a 20% chance of getting Sneijder.

0% chance of getting both.

Hehe, zero chance of us getting both, though that would be AWESOME!

I really can't see us getting Sneijder. It'll be 35m, at least, 200k a week...for a 27 year old who doesn't fit the system perfectly. Just doesn't make sense and doesn't fit with our transfer policy.

Even Nasri I am not convinced fits the system, but a player like him for 20m who is proven in the PL is too good to turn down.

Sad to see Brown go. 1m. Good deal for Sunderland. We have lost alot of experience. VDS, Neville, Brown, O'Shea, Hargreaves (never played I guess) and Scholes. Saw a stat that between them we have lost 2,357 worth of MUFC appearances. Must be saving at least 300k on the wage bill though, and that's if they were all on 50k a week, sure some of them were on more.

Alot of change at the club this season, 3 new signings already, the introduction of youth players, a new GK which is a big change...exciting times and if we get Nasri then we have a team set up for now and years ahead.

It's going to be odd seeing United without any players from that period.

Now that Charlie Adam has all but completed his move, who gets shown the door first? Aquilani or Poulsen? I would like to see Aquilani play now that he's fully recovered his fitness; people forget that his first season in England was also his first back after a serious knee injury. Plus, he can play behind the strikers, which guys like Henderson and Adam (I don't think) can.

Brown has a nasty habit of choking like a motherfucker at the most important times though, glad he got sold tbh. O'Shea would be a great signing for Sunderland though, a bit sad he has to go :/

Got to find someone dumb enough to take them off our hands first! Wouldn't mind giving Aqualilani a chance as a back up though.

I'll give you he's been mostly shit the past couple of seasons, but to say he "chokes" at the most important times (when he's rarely played recently) is a bit silly.

Personally, I feel fergie would make it work if we did get both nasri and sneijder (don't see it happening though). I think he wants to create 2 teams as he does rotate the squad pretty much every week. They have the funds available I feel, even though they are in debt, they were set to sign a 400 million deal with Nike, with around 40 million a year from there. don't think it'll be that high but united want to gain the most from any sponsors. Alot of funds would have come from making the champions league finals 3 times in 4 years. Just like with barca having enough money to fund for fabregas and possibly sanchez, even though they're in debt.

It's almost certain Poulsen is leaving. The national team coach says if he doesn't get first team football, then he won't play for Denmark ever again.
I'm happy just as long as we keep one of Aqualani(my preferred option) or Meireles. I have a funny feeling one will leave. Both would be a disaster.

If we got both Nasri and Sneijder we'd have to play:

-----------------De Gea----------------

Fabio/Rafael--Vidic--Ferdinand--Evra

-----------------Fletcher----------------

----------Sneijder-----Nasri-----------

Valencia/Nani--------------Young/park

-----------------Rooney----------------

All you need now is £55m and you're set.

I don't see why they should sell Aquilani to be honest. If there is one thing that Liverpool had cruelly exposed in the last 2 years, it's that they lack the depth of Tottenham, City, United, Gunners and Chelsea.

Poulsen, gah, seems like a nice enough player. Just hopelessly out of depth in England. There should be a Dutch or German team who'd take him though.

Or perhaps Olympiakos? ;)

Similar to barca's system, feltcher playing the same role of busquets (minus the diving)
wouldn't be too far of from barca with this team. no hernandez?

oh christ this thread

It's starting to look like the worst/funniest bits of the Caf.

In other news, Redknapp's not making the most convincing case for Modric staying.

"I'd be telling you lies if I said he's happy and he doesn't want to go and play for whoever wants him,"

Do Spurs want to keep a want-away player?

Could watch this goal forever. Miss this team.

Also, Brown's performance against Barcelona that year was immense. One of the best defensive displays I've ever seen. No choking that night.

There is no way we are getting Sneijder and Nasri lol. Even if we could afford it. And no team we can compile will be better than Barca.
