The problem is, the last 20 years of journalists being nice towards Molyneux, has resulted in nothing but bullshit from him. It was certainly harsh, and I think that was a nice change. He backed everything up with stone cold facts as far as I can tell, something most journalists don't want to as they're afraid they can't become the companies community manager in the future.
There's an entire spectrum between the antipodes of blithely letting Molyneux mislead (intentionally or unintentionally) everyone yet again and starting an interview by bluntly asking whether he thinks of himself as a pathological liar. I mean, I understand it's a tactic to keep Molyneux from feeling trapped later in the conversation when John's motives become more apparent, but I suspect the same thing could've been achieved without the kidney punch. Perhaps we needn't have read so much of the self-victimization angle.

Molyneux has shown to be a master at dancing around the press, this took no shit from the beginning.

I can't believe some are shitting on the interview. No wait. It's gamingside. Ofcourse I can.

Approached casually by a whore in burger king line. "I will give massage for 300 pesos". "No thanks" "It's a really nice massage"

and then she just said it out downright when I kept declining it.

300 pesos is like... At least the price of 3 whoppers though, who does she think she is.

I chose the whopper.

Facism and to whom else it may concern.

Still no poop in sight. I don't feel any bowel movements at all. Truly dead inside.

Last day I took a dump was the last day I watched porn, I shit you not (wish I could, but I have this constipation you see). I decided to stop watching porn that day.

The side effects were unprecedented.

I know what to do.

I just don't wanna do it

I think this is the difference, honestly.

This is not a new guy in the industry who did his first oopsie on Kickstarter. This is a 30 y/o veteran who has been given a lot of leeway in terms of what he has said and what he has delivered. But this isn't even about "promising you could plant a tree and watch it grow on Fable" or such "promises" we make fun of. This is about taking money and turning around and showing people the middle finger.

This is about a guy who says: "Yes we thought we could develop the thing in 7 months", then: "No, I never expected we could finish the game in that time" the following sentence and "I don't know how much time it takes to make a game, nobody knows!" to top it off, after he's been doing games for decades. In an industry where other people manage to take a proper guess as well. This is a guy who promised they wouldn't go to a publisher for the game, yet did anyway. Early on. A guy who said they were going to focus on the PC version an turned around, and abandoned it in favor of a mobile version and pretty much had to bring in a guy who had been doing it for free to finally start fixing it. 3 years later. A guy who is also lying about when said person came into the team. And that isn't even talking about the Cube winner thingie.

I'm sorry, but at some point the question "Are you a pathological liar PM?" is absolutely warranted.

Warrented how? It's not even an actual question. It's purely rhetorical; it's a barb.

What sort of serious, sincere answer could it prompt? Suppose Molyneux is a pathological liar - wouldn't that immediately undermine his answer to such a question? And why are we to assume that Molyneux has the perspective or experience to judge whether he is himself a pathological liar?

Admit it: John did it for rhetorical flair and lolz.

Seemed to me like he did it, to set the tone of the whole thing. With that very first line right there Molyneux knows he can't bullshit his way around it and give the pr answers he has for the last 20 years. I don't think asking him if he says things that aren't true, without meaning to, is such a wild question to ask him of all people.

Obviously. I admit it. But he also did it to press him.

The tone is warranted. The pressing on him is warranted. That's what I think. He's not going to say: yes I am, but it's letting him know that it's not going to be the same kind of conversation where saying: "That's what happens when you make something that has never been done before, so forgive me for being so ambitious" is going to cut it as a response to "why have you not delivered on THIS, and THIS and THAT?". He had so many weak excuses when presented with facts.

It's telling him he's not getting away with that bullshit for this interview, and guess what, he didn't.

If you kick the chair from underneath the person you're interviewing in the very first question it's not an interview.

Peter Molyneux is clearly a much more patient man than I. If I'd agreed to an interview and that was the first question to me I'd tell him to fuck off and be done with it.

I'd be the Mourinho of game designers

Clearly he didn't kick the chair down underneath him though, as he continued and actually for once, in some small moments, gave honest answers. It's not like these two don't have a long history with each other, I bet he knew Molyneux would continue going.

Anyway Sam in the thread lol

Is it safe to say his career is finished?

I don't know how long his contract with WH is, but he'll probably see it to the end.

Noone is stupid to pay top buck for him or his current wages.

Anyway, I don't see him in top flight football after WH.

Drunk bastard
