My grandad doesn't have Alzheimer's but he definitely has problems with his short term memory.
Has arthritis in his back and a few years ago he got so bad that he was admitted to hospital for a six week stay. Had to have surgery to relieve the pain and has been on a very stringent course of potent painkillers ever since. Now he forgets something he asked you five minutes ago but can still recall events from 70 years ago.

Health professionals are often reluctant to diagnose Dementia or Alzheimer's, as practically it makes little difference to their prognosis and treatment. I'd suggest you get in touch with Adult Social Services and request an assessment. Especially if she's becoming increasingly forgetful or behaving erratically and it's impacting on her ability to carry out her daily routines. They should be able to refer to a specialist psychogeriatric consultant who can diagnose her, or at least pressure her GP into doing it. They'll also be able to signpost you to local support/advice etc.

My nan can go on about stories from her youth but will forget mundane things like eating dinner or changing her clothes. It's peculiar how the mind works.

I think the first priority is getting her driving licence revoked for not just the safety of everyone on the roads but herself as well. She's not even in a physical state to drive nevermind mental, but we were advised not to take the keys off her so... idk.

You can contact the DVLA directly if you have concerns about someone's driving. They're usually quite quick to respond.

Yeah it's really frustrating. We have specialist Dementia Care Workers who are absolutely fantastic and help families cope with this kind of thing, but because the Dr's won't formally diagnose, they aren't eligible for the service.
