What contributed to it was that all season it was clear that we needed a CB and a DM but never bought one. Some players being out injured (Shirokov, Danny, Ansaldi, Criscito was banged up but played, and it showed, he was awful) didn't help, and yes, we were rusty but Spalletti has to take the blame here. Shambolic.

No, Witsel is not a DM. He's been forced to share defensive duties with Faizulin since we don't have a real DM but that's not his strength. He'd be much better playing with a real DM behind him.

The game against Palace should've been the blueprint. Inverted wingers, quicker build up play and a midfielder who isn't afraid to venture forward with the ball. The performance was far from perfect, but was a step up from other performances this season.
Last time I'll give Moyes the benefit of the doubt. Fellaini could be rested as he's just back from injury and Januzaj could be hurt for all we know. But if he picks similar teams to this one then fuck him.

For me, he's there by default
Sturridge and Rooney are playing well, so we either go 4-2-3-1, 4-4-2 or 4-3-3. With 4-3-3, Ox doesn't get in as Rooney and Sturridge occupy 2 of the 3, with Sterling or Welbeck the other choice (Welbeck has played very well in that role for England)
If its 4-2-3-1 with Rooney behind the striker though, we have a choice of any 2 between Sterling, Welbeck, Chamberlain, Llalana and Milner. Now we can striker Milner off because he's dogshit. Welbeck isn't playing much. So that's Ox, Sterling and Llalana, and I'm not sure Llalana even plays on the wings much. So why not Chamberlain? He's been good since he returned from injury
