For example, when Andy Carroll was a 19-year-old, Derby County bid £1million for him. Ashley wanted to sell but Dennis Wise, who was then tasked with reducing the wage bill at St James' Park, said "no".

Wise was adamant that Carroll 'had something about him' and that for £1million the club should keep the player and let him develop on Tyneside.

When Liverpool bought Carroll to replace Chelsea-bound Fernando Torres, Ashley sent a text to Wise. It read: "35 big ones. Cheers, Den."

As for the manager, Alan Pardew, he seems to take the praise with ease when Newcastle win and finds a lot of excuses that point blame as far away from himself as possible during the tougher times.

Chris Hughton's sacking at Newcastle came as a surprise to many but I was told that Pardew had been working on Ashley for months by hanging around the Ritz casino and gambling with him until they'd formed some sort of friendship. Suddenly, he's the Newcastle manager.

He is an interesting character but not my favourite person.

Dennis Wise, hero of Newcastle.

call me crazy but i think schalke may not lose today. .. they might have a chance.

That wouldn't surprise me.

Madrid´s German curse; Only one win from 25 matches played there (6 draws, 18 defeats) , that was against Bayer Leverkusen back in.... 2000. 14 years ago. I believe that we will win, but it will be a very tough match.

Cheers everyone!

Awesome, what for?

It's a networking interview more than anything, he just wants to get a feel for me as a person and then hopefully point me in the direction of placements/experience/contacts in the film industry. He started off in a very similar situation to me (doing a law degree for the sake of having a "proper degree") so best case scenario is that he takes me under his wing as a little protege!

He's worked closely with the likes of Kubrick in his career so at the very least he'll have some stories to tell!

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is top of Atletico Madrid’s list of transfer targets for the summer, reports in Spain have claimed.

AS are among those reporting that Diego Simeone is excited at the possibility of teaming Suarez with Diego Costa - or if Costa was to leave this summer, having Suarez to spearhead the Atletico attack.

I cant think of any club in Germany that is and was more embarrassing than Neverkusen. For more than a decade they lose to any club with a big name. I'll call it now, they wont make it even to EL this season.

Augsburg might beat Juve in EL while Neverkusen could be glad if the aggregate is only 0-6. I'm somewhat disappointed by Bayer for a long time but those regular performances against PSG or Barca and fucking United are just embarrassing.

Augsburg could do great in EL, but they would die in the league if they're trying to compete in two fronts. Like Freiburg this season

This is very true. Even Dortmund struggles in Bundesliga because of this. Bundesliga isnt really set for 3 or 2 competitions. This has to change. But Neverkusen is another thing, thats going on for more than 10 years now. I dont know why but this team has no pernsonality. Neither in the squad nor in the board. Its just like there's a rule in the club that its ok to lose against big names without even trying to compete. They didnt tackle Messi once and let him score 5 goals, the couldnt react when Ibra played in midfield instead being cf... There is so much wrong with them, that its basically inside the clubs DNA..

David Moyes's position as Manchester United manager remains secure despite the dismal 2-0 defeat by Olympiakos in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

In a season of disappointing results during the Scot's inaugural campaign in charge, the manner of the loss against the Greek champions at the Karaiskakis Stadium, in which they managed only a single shot on target, was a new low for United.

The display leaves the champions needing to win the last-16 second leg by three goals at Old Trafford on 19 March to avoid being knocked out by the Olympiakos, who are considered a continental minnow.

Yet despite this – and a league position that has United 11 points from Liverpool in the fourth and final Champions League berth – Moyes retains the full support of the club.

Before the second leg United travel to West Bromwich Albion on 8 March ahead of the visit of Liverpool to Old Trafford, meaning Moyes's team could be an even greater number of points from fourth place by the time they face Brendan Rogers' side.

Here are some relevant clippings to go with this story:

Roy Hodgson draws ever closer to being sacked as Liverpool manager

Liverpool let Roy Hodgson go – and appoint Kenny Dalglish as caretaker

Brendan Rodgers will bring freshness and drive to Liverpool
The manager's impressive work with Swansea suggests he has the talent, vision and dedication to reshape a listing superpower

t says a great deal about Brendan Rodgers's current standing within football that, when he declined to apply for the job of succeeding Kenny Dalglish at Anfield last week because he felt to be seen to seek the job would be to offer an insult to his existing employers, the response of the owners of Liverpool FC – a club with five European Cups in the trophy cabinet and 18 times champions of England – was to redouble the intensity of their efforts to persuade him to join them.

Now we know that they succeeded. But we also know that Rodgers conducted himself impeccably in the sort of negotiations which so often take place to a soundtrack of acrimony. In short, he did it the right way. Which, on the evidence so far available, seems to be his habit.

Liverpool sign Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge on long-term deal
• 23-year-old forward 'humbled' to join 'humongous club'
• Chelsea to replace Sturridge with Newcastle's Demba Ba

Luis Suárez signs long-term deal to stay at Liverpool until 2018

Liverpool run amok and deal Arsenal title credentials a brutal blow

Wait... this is all relevant, right?

Roberto Mancini said:
Galatasaray manager Roberto Mancini believes Chelsea have "an 80% chance" of beating his side to advance into the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Premier League leaders visit the Turkish champions on Wednesday for the first leg of their last-16 tie.

Ex-Manchester City boss Mancini insists Chelsea, who have won the Champions League and Europa League in the past two seasons, are strong favourites.

"They have fantastic players used to playing games like this," he said.

I think they have an 80% chance of going through."

Great way to inspire confidence in your team Mancini, such a defeatist attitude :lol

So last time United got 10 days to train we saw maybe the most dog shit performance of the season, now we've got another 10 days before traveling to the Hawthorns. I can't wait to see the new low we reach March 8th.

4-4-2 (what were you expecting lololololol)
De Gea
Rafael Smalling Vidic Evra
Mata Carrick Fellaini Januzaj
Rooney RVP

West Brom dominate and get a 2-0 lead, United pull one back after Ashley young comes on as sub and dives for a penalty. 2-1 final. Giggs and Valencia the other 2 subs. Kagawa and Hernandez stare into oblivion dreaming of moves away. United fans am cry.

West Brom drew 1-1 with Liverpool and Chelsea at home this year. They're not unbeatable obviously but it wouldn't be the biggest surprise ever if United drop points there.
