Great point was made, though: would you rather have Clint Dempsey, at 29, or see Suso develop and enjoy time in the first team which would subsequently see him sign a new contract?

I know what I'd prefer.

That's the worst type of Wenger-style thinking right there. You should've bought Clint and you know it. The Europa League + League Cup + FA cup is more than enough opportunity to give youngsters first team opportunities.

For example, I'd love to see Coquelin be a top defensive midfielder and for Diaby to have a breakthrough season with the side built around him. But not at the cost of writing off the season entirely.

edit: a better example is probably the keeper situation. szczesny is not good enough atm, mannone will never be good enough, and almunia sure as hell never was good enough. Same idea.

Really impressed with Okore today; he looks to be a real good player. Nordsjaelland on the whole played some really nice football and were unlucky the game ended the way it did.

Okore is pretty great and has also over the summer been rumored to quite a few premier league teams, hopefully he will leave the league soon cause that would completely destroy Nordsjællands defense. :p

Celtic's group is really interesting. You have to think Benfica have the advantage, they should beat the Russians at home and get at least a point away. Then they have Celtic at home, which if Celtic get nothing from Barcelona (probably), and Benfica win, they're through. Before the last game where they play an already qualified Barcelona and Celtic have Spartak at home.

I'll be hoping for lots of draws.

FC Barcelona captain Carles Puyol (34), injured in the 76th minute of the Champions League match against SL Benfica, has dislocated his left elbow. After being stretchered off the pitch, the defender was taken to the Lusíadas de Lisboa hospital for further tests. He was given anesthesia, and his elbow was immobilized.

Afterwards, Puyol was able to join up with the team to make the trip back to Barcelona, where he will spend Tuesday night at the Hospital de Barcelona. Puyol will undergo further tests on Wednesday to determine the extent of the injury and the treatment that will follow.

President Sandro Rosell and Sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta visited the player at the Lisbon hospital to check on his condition.

According to Barcelona based paper Mundo Deportivo, it is expected Puyol will be out for between four and six weeks. The paper also reports that the club has already contacted doctor Xavier Mir, a specialist in this type of injury, in case surgery is needed. Surgery would extend his time away from the pitch to at least two months.

Dislocated, not a break.

If true, this all seems much better than expected.

Wouldn't want him to join one of our rivals in the PL though. :(

For me it's complicated. I never thought Clint was a good idea. So perhaps Suso - But the general issues are related to depth. We are only on Suarez injury away from a striker crisis.

I think Clint would be played as CF or left wing, actually.

I'm not too fucked at this point that we didn't sign him or Gylfi but they're both class players who I would have welcomed gladly.

Sterling > Suso, by the way.

Hey guys, so I haven't been too active on GAF the past 5-6 months. I went through some rough patches over the summer in my personal life that involved depression and such, I don't want to get into too much detail but i'm feeling better now :). Hope some of you still remember me from before. Anyway, i'll let out some of my thoughts on the season so far.

Real Madrid's had a rocky start. I've watched a few games and I can't exactly pin it down but there doesn't seem to be a sense of urgency, little creativity, and shaky motivation among the players. The game against Deportivo wasn't bad, but most of the games before was where these issues were apparent. That said, the match against Manchester City was an absolute thriller!

Modric is a welcome addition. We finally have someone challenging Ozil's spot in the squad, which is the type of motivation Ozil needs if he wants to evolve into a more consistent player.

Oh yeah, listening to Mourinho's interview with CNN was pretty sad, regarding his social life and how strangers treat him. He also sounds really happy whenever he talks about his plans on going back to the EPL :/ I wonder if he's happy in Madrid.

I think Liverpool-GAF might actually have a more intelligent perspective, positive and negative, on ClevGod than a whole lot of United fans on the internet.

Just got back from 6 a side indoor

I am so fucking out of shape. Scored a goal, set up another but was probably directly accountable for at least one. Running is hard

Other highlights include getting clocked in the face with the ball, I think kicked from a 60 year old dude who had surprisingly deft touches

Might not know me, I've just been treading football-gaf for a half a year or so, but welcome back and glad you're doing better!

During my first game after a long layoff - I was prevented from coming back onto the pitch for the second half by a mate's gf. She said I was dangerously pale and (though I might not have noticed it) swaying.

Sounds like she prevented you from puking on the pitch

Yeah, sounds like the first day of the Uni football season. By the 80th minute everyone is writhing on the floor trying to stretch out their leg cramps.

Thanks, I appreciate it :)

Glad you're feeling better now.

Sahin has already made his mark on the team and is probably the fans favorite of the moment. Dude is incredible.

Awesome. I always had a feeling he would show his quality if he had more consistent minutes.

There's talk about him being Alonso's successor in Madrid but I wouldn't mind if he stayed permanently at Liverpool.

Alright, I guess I would mind a little. Xabi isn't getting any younger and Madrid will need a new CDM/Deep lying play-maker sooner or later.

Jealous of the Glory that is Johnny Depp
I don't get why people keep harping on Fabregas, honestly he has been on fire lately.

Even his passing has improve dramatically, still sometimes gives the ball away but not as much as last season and his confidence is back and it shows with those runs from deep to score goals.

He is different from Iniesta/Xavi in the sense that he is more direct and more willing to go forward to score goals, but that's ok because it gives our midfield another dimension that Iniesta/Xavi just don't have. His link-up play with Messi is so good.

And it's good to see Alexis score, I rate him high because of how hard he works for the team his pressing is the best out of any of the strikers in the team and he tracks back a lot to help on defense, those things sometimes go unnoticed as scoring goals is more flashy but it helps the team a lot. He was never bonafide goal-scorer, never has been in his career anyway. Seems the change to the left side really helped and his link-up with Alba was just great.

Liverpool haven't really missed a clinical striker so far, just struggling to turn decent performances into chance-filled performances which is a team&staff responsibility. We're getting there, and that's when we'll rue our lack of effectiveness assuming that they prove as reticent to score as they did last season. Not all that bothered about Sigurdsson, as long as he plays like he has for Spurs and we can restrict Gerrard's gametime properly

Where's the best place to check/compare odds?

Sorry I missed this, I know you. Welcome back to the club :) Good to hear you are doing better.

Plus, he has great hair.
