Abrams loves Spielberg/Lucas but he doesn't understand how or why they made the decisions they did within their movies. horrific pacing, relies on nostalgia as a crutch to a fault, every single one of his films suffers from ADD—cram as much superfluous action/slapstick/"comic relief" on the screen as possible. they're a small step up from the prequels.

The nostalgia in STID is abhorrent, and there is a massive amount of things going on at any given time. I don't think the pacing is necessarily bad, especially in ST09, and I think he has an eye for good casting. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt with regards to the new Star Wars.
