That's the game we have to play to compete with big clubs. We can offer more games and more money to someone like Pogba, we just won't because of some misplaced sense of morality and self-righteousness on Wenger's part. Players like Ozil, Sanchez, Mata—all on quite low wages (far lower than their current ~150kish wages) when they first moved to big clubs. We could've gotten Mata, we just didn't want to. We definitely can get whoever we want, it just means compromising our values just a little bit.

If it's a straight comparison between Arsenal and Madrid, of course Pogba's going to Madrid every time. but if it's Arsenal offering 150k+ wages and Madrid, well then he at least a decision to make and some thinking to do.

We end up paying 150k in wages for these players like Ozil, Sanchez, Khedira anyways, right? We just get them after they've played a few years at big clubs. Why not just cut out that middle step and get them now? It's not like Ozil and Sanchez played worse when they were underpaid by Barca and Madrid. A Pogba is worth 150k in wages, so let's pay that.
