I am so excited
So how good is this Willian? I tried to youtube him and he doesn't seem that special from that. Is he a midfielder or an attacking midfielder?
His wiki page also shows very few games in the past few seasons. Is he super injury prone or something?
Why welp? We already knew that's where he was going.Luis Gustavo on the Wolfsburg website.
Welp.
Of all the targets Arsenal have missed out on, Gustavo seems the most painful. He's very good in the position Arsenal need most.

On the eve of the new 2013/14 season, Manchester City Football Club is delighted to announce it has teamed up with the Barclays Premier League’s newest rights holder, BT Sport.
The three-year deal, which is a first of its kind in the Premier League, will bring fans closer to the action than ever before, with weekly interviews from key members of the playing and coaching staff, exclusive access and behind-the-scenes content.
As part of the partnership, the Club’s purpose built pre-match entertainment area will be renamed BT City Square, from which BT Sport will broadcast live match day programming before every home game, enhancing the experience of City fans and Etihad Stadium visitors alike.
Commenting on the partnership, Chief Commercial & Operating Officer for Manchester City Football Club, Tom Glick, said: "BT Sport will be a fantastic addition to the Premier League family next season, adding a new dimension to what is widely regarded as the most popular and globally watched league in the world."
"Having invested heavily in both on-screen talent and high quality programming, the new channel is set to not only be a big hit with BT customers, but football fans as a whole.
"We are delighted to work together with BT Sport as their first official partner and look forward to close collaboration to drive innovative content that can be shared across each of our media platforms.
"As part of the partnership, our purpose built outdoor fan entertainment area, BT City Square, will also be enhanced, making it an even better venue for fans and families to gather before and after each home game."
Agreed.Suarez is by far the most painful to miss out on.
German media makes it clear though that Gustavo is going to Wolfsburg because he'll be (practically) guaranteed to play, i.e. it's a decision for the World Cup. I'm not sure Arsenal would've been able to do the same for him.

Just one day until the Premier League season kicks off and it's time to do the predictions. I quickly went through the thread and quoted the (legitimate?) predictions. Let me know if I missed any. I'll continue to update this post until kick off tomorrow.Predictions:
Chelsea
United
City
Spurs
Arsenal

Stoke

Song was more a box to box midfiielder which is the position Wilshere/Ramsey will be playing. Arteta is the defensive midfielder. With Arteta injured Gustavo would get guaranteed game time but as soon as Arteta was fit again they would rotate like Gibbs/Monreal will rotate. Gustavo will get more game time staying in Germany. With Arteta getting old and subsequently injured now , he'll get heaps of playing time . We don't really have a proper DM actually , if Song can play at the position all the time , why not Gustavo ?

The new banner in OT. Will make its debut on home game vs Chelsea
German media makes it clear though that Gustavo is going to Wolfsburg because he'll be (practically) guaranteed to play, i.e. it's a decision for the World Cup. I'm not sure Arsenal would've been able to do the same for him.
Wenger would not have given Gustavo his guarantees to playing time and that's why we wouldn't have gotten him.
Same for Suarez/Rooney/Bernard/Cesar/Higuain/Rami/Anyplayerwhohasbeenlinked.
I just think Wenger has no clue in what areas he wants to spend and they are struggling to identify obtainable targets.
One day until the season starts and Arsenal have 1 signing, who was free, is young and nowhere near first team yet. I can understand the Moyes situation a little, he did only start in July but what exactly has Wenger been doing all summer? *queue posts of Wenger on a slide, wearing a lampshade etc. *
It was probably brought up here when it was released, but I just got around to reading Wenger's sound bite from yesterday (Edit: It was actually today.) :
"I dont disagree that we are a bit light at the moment. We are looking to strengthen our squad. Were looking more for quality than for numbers. We would like two or three players, if possible more.
Two or three players! It's August 16th! It's nice that he has at least admitted a need to fill out the squad, but it's rather late.
What a load of nonsense that post was.Same for Suarez/Rooney/Bernard/Cesar/Higuain/Rami/Anyplayerwhohasbeenlinked.

When your shit club finishes above Arsene just once then you can talk shit but until then Spurs fans should be a little silent. Spurs fans have no grounds to tell Wenger whether he does or doesn't know what he's doing.
No the window isn't a success but it's naive to simply blame Wenger for everything when we don't know all the facts. So you would consider your transfer window a success then?
Everyone is allowed an opinion, regardless of team they support. You're being ignorant by claiming everytime a player rejects you that its all part of Wengers master plan and that they wouldn't get in your team anyway.

Wenger hints at possible bid for Wayne
No the window isn't a success but it's naive to simply blame Wenger for everything when we don't know all the facts.
And I'm not saying "everytime" a player rejects us it's because of a masterplan. In the case of Gustavo though, he is not worth 7m salary imo and he wouldn't have gotten the guarantees he was seeking.
Wenger said:'Some clubs acted very early so the choices were reduced and there is more competition coming from France with Paris St Germain, who buy big players for huge amounts of money, so it’s tough, difficult and slow.
This season's Next-Gen league has been cancelled because the organizers couldn't secure funding.
Club bidding for Rooney and aren't a threat to United's league position.

Not as convinced as some that we'll win the league, but I think we have a good shout.
You're acting like the window has closed and our club will fall off a cliff. That may be many users dreams but it won't be reality. Players will come in and then we'll judge.Who else is to blame then? Wenger has said money is to spend but hasn't done so yet? As far as I know you don't have a sporting director? So surely Wenger is more involved in transfers than anyone else.
Is any player worthy of the salary they get these days though? Gustavo would have strengthened your midfield and given you cover. Arteta out for 6 weeks means he would've got plenty of games in to cement a place, add to the fact Wilshire can barely last a month without picking up an injury and then Wenger forcing him to play through an injury.
Clubs acted early....so why did Wenger not do the same? You've known for a long time the areas you needed to get sorted. Just seems like a shambles of a window, no other way of putting it. Identifying Suarez as a transfer target has really fucked your window up.
You're acting like the window has closed and our club will fall off a cliff. That may be many users dreams but it won't be reality. Players will come in and then we'll judge.
And paying over the odds in salaries has bad ramifications for the harmony of your squad and makes it harder to move players on. How would Wilshere feel? How about Cazorla? How about Theo? There are cases where you can go overboard with wages, Suarez/Fabregas/RVP like players but not Gustavo. Common sense is required not knew jerk reactions.
