It would be nice to see more youngsters playing these early round cup games but when the likes of Azpilicueta and Essien have yet to make a start its hard to see how they can give everyone enough time on the pitch.

I'd start Evans ahead of Rio right now. Don't think Jones and Smalling are ready to become regulars for us.
When Rio and Vidic are gone we'll have to buy a new defender anyway. You can't compete for the league with only 3 central defenders. Whether that signing is a starter or squad cover depends on how well Smalling and Jones do.

Honestly, it may be true but there is clearly no love lost between Mourinho and Spaniards. I don't think it's a coincidence that Mata and Azpilicueta are never playing and Torres is also on the fringe. I would take things the Spanish press say with a grain of salt at this point.

Read in a few places that Di Matteo isn't interested in the SAFC job. I guess I can see where he's coming from, it's clearly not a club on the up at the moment, and stability is something Di Matteo would probably be seeking after losing the WBA job and then the Chelsea job.

No, that's not right.
He'll be definately banned for the Marseille match and a day later on, October 2nd, UEFA will decide over a longer ban. There might not be a longer one, though.
