We went from Ferdinand, Terry, Campbell and Carragher, to Jagielka, Cahill, Jones and Smalling. I think Jones will be great but right now I'm not exactly confident about how our defence will hold up

Central Defence seems to be a real problem position for England going forward. With Terry and Ferdinand gone, there's 4 experienced defenders - Cahill, Jagielka, Dawson, Lescott - who have never shown themselves to be anything above the level of 'good'; there are the 2 United youngsters, Jones and Smalling, who have yet to show they can reach their potential to become top defenders and that's about it.
Where are the 23, 24yr olds to step in? Shawcross seems like the only English CB reaching peak age in the PL, and hes certainly not good enough.
And where are the talented youngsters? Look at the squads for the u-21s, pretty much all of their CBs have never played in the PL. Apart from Smalling and Jones there isn't really anyone on the verge of a breakthrough. Andre Wisdom is perhaps the only other lad with PL experience, but even that has all come at RB.

That's different. In a wc setting big teams will be much more ruthless. See Spain. They are shit in friendlies but on the big stage they have been great (bar the confed final but even then Brazil were ruthless)

These two friendlies should have been the perfect excuse to use the youngsters we have. Play Chile at home. Play Germany away. Fuck the scoreline. Experience is much needed. But we'll be stuck with these old arse cunts for an eternity.
