Football Thread |OT16| Bacon & Dregs

Sad to see Owen announcing his retirement. People like to take the piss out of him but he has been extremely unfortunate with injuries. I will never forget those early years when he burst in the Liverpool side and the England squad. The goal against Argentina is one of my all time favourites.

Hopefully Liverpool will not repeat the same mistake gain overplaying Sterling at his young age. It maybe already too late for Wilshere.

Strangely, Sterling's drop in form may be the best possible thing for his long term prospects. Can't wait to watch him develop in the way we want him to develop, rather than what we had to do before January with him being thrown in at the deep end, getting more and more tired every game.

Hopefully we're doing a lot of individual training with him. His play has become very predictable, but if we do right by him, and he does right by himself, he has a ridiculously high ceiling. Suso needs a loan as well.

Hey I replied 6 days later :p I am improving at least right :p?

Are you referring to the Barca-Milan game? Because I thought that was fantastic for many reasons. Not just because it was a very epic win even for Barcelona's standards, but also because for the first time in ages I felt like Barcelona played with a different system designed against a stubborn defense.

Sure, Milan were not that good that day, but Barcelona were on fire as well so no credit should be taken away from them. Having Villa on there as a distraction for Messi and vice-versa worked so well. Pedro was very disappointing though! He has been for a while now. I remember when he simply had to score against Madrid at the first leg of the Copa Del Ray and missed.

Also that Messi goal was one of the most amazing goals I have ever seen. His second was excellent as well. I love him.

Yep talking about the Milan game. It was so good to see the team actually pressure and chase like they used to under Pep, it's been lacking this season imo. Villa + Messi, it just works, so many of us have been saying take off Cesc, use Iniesta in midfield and Villa up front and it finally happened.

I think Milan, who were not underestimating us, I think they were still shocked by how different and more aggressive the team was playing. Pedro has been bad, but Sanchez has been worse.. :(

Messi showed up when we needed him, was awesome. I hope he stays at this level or improves(?? :O ) for many years.

Van Persie's drop in goalscoring form is positively bizarre. Twice in 2 seasons its happened as well

Not at all. It's important to remember that RVP never went a full season without a major injury of some kind through his entire career up until last season; he's been playing so many games that's he's bound to burn out for a bit.

9 (10?) games though? A player as good as Van Persie should be picking up goals no matter how tired they are, you'd think he'd have got himself a tap-in or two in the last 6 weeks

Do you need a fire escape or can you suitably protect existing access ie. fire rate everything around the access for 1hr and provide safe areas for disabled people?

Or reduce the footprint and have multi level stores from the mezzanine that have external entrances as well? That might be suitable.

Well, I haven't though about it, but yeah, Fire exit and route plan is a must, even if the material si stron enough to sustain the damage for an hour or two. I think I have to ask my lecturer about it tomorrow, since I don't know much about Fire preccudre.

Are you an Architect by the way?

7 games I think.

Leave him alone! The others are doing the work.

Close to the 20-20-20. Rooney and Hernandez need 4 more each.

So I'm doing this work experience. Its good, lasts until next Thursday. At the end I'll get a shitload of Adidas products too. However, as I mentioned, the place I'm staying is an unbelievable shit tip. No seat on toilet, my mates housemates are all 24 hours stoners, music until ridiculous hours, I have to either kip on the hard floor, or if my mates girlfriend comes over he literally just disappears to bed with her and I have to work out somewhere else in the house to sleep. Kitchen is unliveable, I've got a pizza in the oven but I don't know if ill eat it, the stench of the oven shelf was unbearable. 40 minute commute into the City.

It's been getting me down, I don't want to go home after work. Spoke to 'me mam', and she said 'me nan' has offered to pay £300 to house me in a guest house from Friday until the Thursday I finish. It's in Bloomsbury, sounds very nice, and even comes with a cooked breakfast each day. And that's the problem. It's too nice. It's too much. Why should I take this? And I'll be completely alone for that duration so it'll be a lot of solitude.

Need your thoughts. Honestly what would you do? Would you stick it out, or take the guest house.

Hmm, he's quite harmless.

But yes his playing style is awful and I have zero confidence in him to do anything good ever.

But at least he did a poo poo on Arsenal that one time. That was jokes.

He's a decent crosser and put's in a good shift defensively.

He's ok as injury cover and against the smaller teams. But he's not the sort of player we can rely on for a prolonged period of time like we had to last season.

I suppose that's what a about all we should expect for a 4th choice winger. But like you you said, fans have no confidence in him doing anything good on the pitch. We could get a younger alternative who can offer just as much as Young can. Plus there is the possibility that he could develop into a better player than Ashley.

And whilst I'm looking forward to seeing Zaha play, we were fleeced by Crystal Palace for the transfer fee. I'm assuming we've bought him to be a replacement for Nani. Ijust widh it was for Young instead.

2 questions, just because Fry loves them so :p

1. Is ME3: Citadel post-game content, so can I complete the game then wait for it to drop in price?

2. Cheapest place to buy a long-sleeve 2012/13 Liverpool home shirt, and am I better off waiting for the massive price drop that will occur when the new one is released?

@Arnie, become a commuter bro. Stay in a Travelodge in Berkshire or Essex. Fuck that living situation.

Take the guest house.

Make sure you figure out a way to pay back your Nan ASAP. Get a job over the summer somewhere local and you'll be able to pay her back in a month easy.

That sounds awful. It must be tough to bear. You could just force yourself through it but I can't imagine you making the most of the experience living like that.

Guest house or research a cheaper alternative and present it to her.

You gotta be on your top game while doing this Adidas internship to make the best impression.

Kolarov isn't a good enough player to warrant a start and then you lack natural width in Milner. It seems to work for Juve but that's down to the absolute dynamite middle three they have, which as of yet City can't match. If you're going to use a formation that utilises wingers, it might help to actually have wingers.

Like Clegg was saying, there's a dearth of pure wingers in the league right now. Valencia and Lennon are the only one that come to mind that really look to take it up the byline and stretch the play. Full backs are becoming far more important for that role while people look to keep the midfield compact. I understand the thinking behind it but you think people would exploit a full back's importance nowadays by deploying a specialist to take them on.

Hmm I see your point.

You help create that dynamite atmosphere at the Eithad.

I'd take your nan's offer. I can understand not wanting to be in solitude for a week but right now you're living in miserable conditions. I'd take that trade off tbh.

Besides that's what family is for innit? To help you when you need it. I'm sure she won't mind you taking your time in paying her back.

Guesthouse.

You've got to be right in body and mind I guess. And knowing you're coming home to that... Well, I wouldn't be right that's for sure.

Is there anywhere you can stay that's a bit cheaper? The place sounds fucking gross but I suppose you either grin and bear it knowing you're a young lad who at least is used to student lifestyle (albeit not as grim) or 'ye nan' can put you up somewhere a tad cheaper. You won't get much more, but personally if she's offering I'd do the whole schtick of turning her down a bunch of times and then finally accepting when the stubborn ole lady refuses to back down. You'll be alone but you won't be in squalor and you won't have the conundrums of finding somewhere to sleep etc. Just get back, watch some telly, get a good night's sleep.

£300 for that period of time and a breakfast, he's not going to find anything much cheaper in London.

Being alone isnt a thing anyway. In fact at times I think it's much preferable.

Yeah, both of these. I doubt you'll find much cheaper, but might be worth a look if you can do that for her Arnie.

And isolation's nice sometimes. Might be hard doing it 6 days in a row but part of me wouldn't want to come back after tiring days and deal with all that shit anyway, would rather the relaxation by myself.

The fact that you're alone can be in your favour later on, after you've hit on some chicks at this Adidas job. No need to worry about roomies when you want some alone time with the fresh meat.

Thanks for the responses, probably going to take it, and my Mum needs to book it tonight because it says it's the last room. They've looked and there's nout much cheaper, to be honest. The hardest part is telling my mate that I'm leaving. I don't really get the impression that he's thrilled I'm here, he doesn't make much of an effort to make me feel welcome, but he's still a good mate and I'm basically turning my nose up at him. Last night just pushed me over the edge, though. Him just disappearing to his room without telling me and going to bed, when he knows I thought I was kipping in there, just irritated me. Then I think of another 12 nights like this and I struggle. Horrible situation. Contemplated telling Adidas and shortening the internship, but that feels like I'm bottling it.

Either way I won't be ecstatic. This way I'll be able to do the proper touristy sight seeing adventure over the weekend and retreat to my little guest house in the evening.

Urgh. Life, man.

I would take the solitude of the guest house every time. I mean things must be bad if you're not looking forward to going home after work! That's not how it's supposed to be! If you do feel particularly lonely you could always sort some nights out with that mate you're currently staying with.

As for your nan paying for it. You can always pay her back when you get some cash flowing in.

Definitely could happen. Deulofeu is just beasting it for Barca B, it's a matter of time before he replaces Sanchez/Pedro/Villa

Tello and Messi are the only ones I'm certain will stay.

I get the feeling we'll go for Sanchez. A Vucinic - Llorente - Sanchez attack wouldn't be that bad. How much, FootballFan?

Just say the commute is too long so you're moving somewhere closer.

He offered you a place, it's not worked out - no problem. Shouldn't be any hard feelings.

I wouldn't feel bad about the guest house mate. I mean there's an element of natural guilt but beyond that it's fine.

And if you feel lonely me and Wilbur will come and give you a hug.

Friends.

All three of us should go GBK for halloumi starter then go to Nandos with my discount card, then go back to Arnold's hotel and kiss each other's navels

I'd rather sit in solitude.

By the way my Mum's words were that my Nan was rolling in pension money, but still. Either way I feel like I've bottled something. I don't actually mind the commute, it's a single train to Charring Cross and the views are lovely. The people here aren't that bad, either, but it's a fucking drug den, and I don't feel welcomed by my mate.

I had a 40 minute phone call at lunch with a good friend who stayed here a week back whilst doing archive research for his dissertation, and he was laughing his tits off at how similar our experiences were. My friend's done this disappear to bang his girlfriend trick before. And my mate said he saw a rat.

Going to book it but I'm ringing my dad and telling him to chip in.

21m. No yearly installments, no Giovinco included in the deal, not loan with option to buy, just 21m.

Well I'd certainly take that, even though we paid more for him.
