Football Thread U 2013/14 |OT8| 3rd in a 2 team league

I'm just interested in what he has to say tbh. A fanzine interview with United's current CEO is a rare enough occurrence.

United are introducing a singing section, right? That's a step in the right direction. Will be a while before standing comes back imo.

I've made a bad choice in that property law is the most soul crushingly boring educational topic ever conceived by man. I genuinely think some modules have been specifically designed to be as boring as possible, just as a test to see who drops out.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the job. I like to think that a civil service job working alongside politicians is actually just a slightly toned down "The Thick of It".
You're right, Mitten has landed a whooper in getting that interview.

Singing section is on trial tmrw I think.

Property law is where the money is at though...right?

Wait, you're a civil servant?

I applied for a civil service job the other day.

It literally just sounded like The Thick of It.

Do you work in central London Viva?
Haha well I didn't actually start watching The Thick of It till about 2 weeks back...but there genuinely are shades of that about it :lol Depends on your role of course, if you work in a Ministers private office I expect it's exactly like that. I'll be sent to one in one of my rotations so that'll be a blast...I hope!

Which job Arnie? You should apply to their grad scheme, think it's still open. Worth a shot, you can base yourself upt'north too.

I do work in central London yes, across the road from Downing St. It's really cool.

Worth watching the highlights of tonights games? Only saw a few minutes of the Arsenal game and Ajax's goal in the Celtic match.

Its all about tomorrow!

John Cross had a shocker this evening

gunnerblog ‏@gunnerblog 6m

Cross talked over German journo to attempt question. Politely rebuked by BVB Press officer, he very publicly walked out on Klopp. Childish.

i ask this every week but:

can we finally add Neymar to the Flop Hall of Fame?

he probably had a flashforward when he saw Robinho in the Milan kit. like staring into the future.

come on mang, 2 goals in 12 games is gud

Sure, Robinho managed to score more goals in less games with Milan, but still. He's still 21 and it's hard to play with players like Messi, Cesc and Xavi, you know.

Özil is not a right winger, why on earth would you play him their? So Thomas fucking Rosicky can man the middle? ROFL.

they are in a league of their own ;)
I agree it's stupid to play him there, funny enough Rosicky was one of our best players in the match
not in passes
:looooooool

It was a press officer job in the department for communities and local government. Based in Eland House, SW1E.

Don't know what the fuck I want to do with my life.

I wouldn't say he was amazing...but the rest of the team was quite poor so Hulk felt like he had to take the game on himself. He was disposed as a result quite often. But you can't discount his passion, he really wanted it tonight. He did create quite a bit too, I have to give them that.

I expect us to play much better in the return leg. Mid November in St. Pete's? These soft South Americans won't be able to handle it. Sweden has a similar situation when they welcome the Portucunts to Stockholm for the playoff.

Oh and btw, he has yet to score a FK for Zenit.
loooooooool with FK like the one I saw in the highlights I'd expect him to score at least one. But yeah it did look like he showed strong passion in the game, not sure if it's just because he's playing against his former club or if it's just how he is. Does he have the same passion in the Russian PL? Either way had he scored that FK it would have been beautiful and while I don't think he's worth the price you paid for he does some rather good stuff on the pitch, good player to have imo.

He is Brazilian.

Hulk was Zenits best player, set up the goal, but Mangala dealt with him most of the time.
Yeah it looked like he was the best player from the highlights. I liked when he broke through Porto's defense from the right and passed the ball but the whole Zenit team were like several galaxies away :lol. Porto were a bit unlucky, red card early but you held out till the last moment, had some chances to score as well. I guess Zenit didn't perform that well, they should have buried some more goals.

some random musings about my PS2 adventure:

- Virtua Fighter 4 looks like ASS compared to the aracde. gladly the gameplay is the same
- Shadow of the Colossus runs like ASS
- Contra: Shattered Soldier is awesome
- Kingdom Hearts is really pretty looking, very clean
- Silent Hill Shattered Memories is alot worse than 2 (haven't tried 3 and 4 yet)

Tomorrow every Arsenal fan is an Olympiacos fan. Get bent with your ps2 <3

Cazorla was brilliant when he came on, Rosicky was good too.

I agree.

Conversely, two of our best players (ozil and Ramsey) played terrible for the majority of the game. I'm not to bothered by the result as we certainly didn't play as well as we could. Palace will be the unfortunate victims to feel our wrath.

Hulk has been very good this season. Completely different from last season kinda like Ramsey. Considering how much Russian clubs usually get fleeced in the transfer market then I have to say that if Hulk keeps playing the way he's been recently then he's been worth the money for us.

We didn't play as well as we could but it highlighted a few things that have burning away in the background for a while, namely:
  • Sagna (assist aside) has lost the ability to defend and attack.
  • Gibbs doesn't offer much going forward.
  • No one on the team can cross, Ozil aside.
  • Can't keep possession as well as we used to.

Contento will play as CB according to Bild.

Guardiola pls, gtfo

I wouldn't go on panic mode after losing to Dortmund. They're specialists in playing against possession based sides.

Agree strongly with all those points, especially the first two. Sagna and Gibbs are really lacking when going forward.

Yep. Possession is a luxury against teams who are both focussed on pressing high up the pitch, all over the pitch, and keeping possession themselves. Even more so when the other team is superior man-for-man

you know what, this game actually proves that flamini's already vital to this arsenal team. when he's playing, they still look vulnerable, but to his credit, he is the only midfielder who cares about defending first and foremost. he's the only one coaching the rest of the team, trying to keep them together. arteta doesn't do that. ramsey doesn't do that. wilshere doesn't do that.

ideally, i'd like to see players like ramsey and arteta in a double pivot, but this arsenal team just lacks the defensive discipline to cope with that.

The key thing that should be noted is Ramsey, Ozil and Giroud are having to play too many games. We need to get some rotation going.

Gibbs is not so good that Monreal can't get a game for example.
