ENDING SPOILERS:
They kill the final boss by shooting the proton packs at his dick. Yeah...

Ahahaha, this is so over the top that I actually like this.

All
men being douchebags/idiots
on itself doesn't mind me either, to be honest. Men bashing and going against stereotypes can be really funny when done well, but from the looks/sounds of it, this film just doesn't succeed very well at that. What does worry me is that the cgi looks atrocious to me, and all the trailers thus far are just loud and really obnixious. The concept of this film is fine, but I have little faith in the quality. I will gladly be wrong though.

Pretty bizarre conclusion to draw there, mate.

What conclusion is bizzare?

- you don't agree that be main audience will be males (ok it's most likely a children's film first and it might be perfect at that , but I would argue a large part of the nostalgic fans will be male

-
or are you referring to the man bashing ? Because I am taking that straight from the review , not a single normal male character , probably expected since the main cast is now female , but you could argue the originals tried its best not todo bimbo female stereotypes

- then of course it's the
stupid fx , stereotypical black lady , plot holes contradicting the rules

So yeh I'm sure it will be a great kids movie , but it sure won't resonate with the older fans of ghostbusters , and as usual everyone will dismiss it because it's just women bashing rather then ignoring the main issues

Here's an early review. Sounds awful, stereotypical, sexist, bad effects, proton pack killing ghosts instead of containing it, with more in common with the cartoons than the movies.

If Patty's character is as stereotypical as he says, can anyone really champion this movie as a feminist.

And judging from the trailers he's probably right about Patty.

So its a worst case scenario then: Unfunny, stereotypical, and combats Misogyny with Misandry.

...I still might see it out of a bile curiosity.

If Patty is the stereotypical black lady throughout the movie, then, yeah, that's bad.

I might have to see this just for Hemsworth. If he's really as funny as they're saying, I can put up with a shit film just for those moments. I'm not proud, I've paid money to see worse.

If Hemsworth is really the only good thing about this movie then I'll just wait for the youtube clips.

I mean the video invites that garbage.

It invites it the same way any and all negative reviews or criticisms of this movie will invite it, because people are just gleefully waiting to shit all over it whether it reviews well or not. I really want to like this movie, but the criticisms in the video don't entirely seem to be out of spite.

The review vid seemed pretty fair and reasonable. Surprised to see jones get holed into a loud angry black woman role by feig of all people.

I'm surprised anyone thinks Jones is playing a "stereotypical black woman" role in this. She's playing the exact same role she has played in everything she's ever personally done. If you've seen her bits on SNL, she's doing the exact same routine here. It's actually kinda racist to call it racist.

Why, it doesn't seem mutual exclusive. Maybe she played this role since forever but it can still be that 'stereotypical black woman' one. Every clip I've seen so far is indicating as much.

Almost every scene I've seen her in is her yelling and being obnoxiously over the top. Ever if that's the role she been known for for years, it still plays on the stereotype of black people, particularly black women, being loud, annoying, and obnoxious.

So she's made a career profiting off of the stereotype?

So the misogynists were right after all?

Ugh, I can already picture the chest thumping that will be going on in 4chan and Reddit.

I'm not one of those that wanted this movie to be good just to spite the Fedoras, but I really hate how this movie bombing critically and commercially will make them feel vindicated.

So she's one dimensional? Gotcha.

I'm wondering the same myself. I can't remember if it was in this thread or another recent GB16 thread but I was speculating if Sony was going to be more lenient with what it considers a flop or success because of the insane shit storm already surrounding this. I have heard that if it FLOP flops Sony plans to kill the IP, I assume until the 50th anniversary at the very least. I really fucking hope that doesn't come to pass if for no other reason than that the IDW comics are so fucking good and I would hate for them to be cancelled forever because of the movie. ):

I must check it out. I've been hearing a lot of praise for those comics.

I like to see it as those who thought the movie looked like crap because of the trailers will still think the movie is crap if they go see it.

If that's the way she is, is she playing up the stereotype? Or is the stereotype accurate? Or is it all just a coincidence?

I just think it's weird to assume that Paul Feig channeled his inner racist to create a stereotypical black woman character. That's an actual argument I keep seeing on the internet. But it's just Leslie Jones being Leslie Jones. Seeing a stereotype in her natural behavior is all in the mind of the person who sees the stereotype.

Even if that characterization is accurate to Jones' inherent personality, it is still an irritating character trait that play into some of the worse assumptions of black people. The defense that "Well this is just how Leslie Jones is!" is cold comfort for us black people trying to fight such negative stereotypes.

It would that been great if Feig and the writers tried to get Jones to broaden her range as an actor instead of going the easy, cheap role of playing into racial stereotypes.

Her doing this kind of role over and over again actually makes the optics seem kind of worse, don't you think?

As a black guy, I completely agree. But most of the criticisms I've seen about it have centered squarely on Feig and not on Jones' comfort with playing that character or even if the fact that her role was originally intended for Melissa McCarthy. Feig is ultimately the director and should have been the one to push past a lot of those stereotypes if they're as bad as people were fearing, but as with any comedy a lot of it is collaborative. The character may have been dramatically different if the actor playing the role didn't share the same comedic styling as Jones - like Rashida Jones, Regina Hall, or Aisha Tyler.

Apparently Jones' character is the history buff of the group. I haven't seen the movie so I don't know how well that's utilized to break through her character being a stereotype, but it makes me somewhat hopeful.

Yeah, hopefully she does push past the stereotype a bit. I think in cases like this, casting is crucial. I wouldn't cast Sandler or Rogen in a comedy not expecting them to basically be Sandler or Rogen. And I think Feig probably succumbed to going in a direction with the character that he genuinely found funny and true to Jones's style and didn't think more about the portrayal in the larger context of black depictions. And that responsibility falls ultimately - although not solely - on Feig, if that's case.

Can't listen at the moment, but you better not be fucking with us!

The one I linked to has a very cool remix of the main theme. The score in general is very... big. Parts sound like horror. But there's action and a lot of chorus. I really like it, it's better than I thought it would be.

I guess it's just... different than I imagined? Took me by surprise. When it comes to scores, I don't fuck with anyone. Whether or not one agrees is a whole other ballgame!

...here I am being positive again, yuck

Good, bad, or even just middle of the road reviews, this will be.. interesting.

As someone who generally loves internet forum drama/fights, especially when I have no stakes in them, this has all been one sad and awkward affair.

I forget his name, Cummings? Guy who did the Extreme Ghostbusters theme did a new track recently too for the new film. I'm on mobile, but I recall it being kind of neat.

Felt like a updated mashup of film and cartoon.

Maybe this was already pointed out, but according to the spoilers, they don't bust Ghosts anymore but destroy them. So how does this make sense at all? That would even make the title obsolete.

Ah that's neat. For the score? You know which track? Or is it on the licensed soundtrack

I dunno "busting..." sounds less like "trapping" to me lol
