Former Concord dev responding to their game flopping: "why would I care about a bunch of talentless freaks hating on it"

I'm gonna take the high ground and say that they are going through a lot at the moment. The gaming community has already spoken with their money and twitch views, and we should leave it at that. Let's not kick someone when they are down. He's upset. He, and others, spent several years on something that didn't work out. Their studio will probably shut down over this and jobs will be lost. People say hurtful things when they're grieving.

They aren't going to kill the game yet.

They will put it free on PS plus then free 2 play and then they will retire the game.

Is the gaming industry the only industry where creators shit on their own customerbase? I don't see this anywhere else. The pure insanity of publicly taking a shit on your own audience and then wondering why no one likes them or their games.

Pretty stupid comment, since there are plenty of skills and jobs this guy can't do either. Not everyone is in video game development, does that make them talentless freak?

People have been fired according to the the internet for much less. Maybe he should make a music video, like the Acolyte girl.

Then, we will have people in this forum claiming that we are so wicked by feasting on the demise of this lot.

I will gladly pee on their virtual graves.

Saying the quiet part out loud is never an advisable strategy :messenger_tears_of_joy: Wow. Best to step away from the keyboard right now, devs, it's not going to go well for you…

Also last.

I did say yesterday that I felt bad for them, but posts like this from inside kind of make me say fuck it. If you're just that stupid…

Interact with target audience to work on the future of your game.
Market research in what target audience finds appealing in todays market
Take criticism from target audience for developing future title.
> Call target audience "a bunch of freaks".

It takes a particular mindset to behave like this. Rudeness aside, the lack of self-criticism is one good reason to never hire this kind of people, because they are unable to see where the problem is so they will never learn from their mistakes.

I see what they are doing here.

Its the classic Dice's "Everybody's Battlefield" marketing maneuver.

You insult your target audience right at the launch of your massively marketed game then you spend another massive amounts of PR and post game development to trying to salvage the fruit of your talent.

EA games, challenge everything.

It works everytime :D

This is your career buddy. Eight years of money and time, and you and your team put out a an uninspired me too shooter, that was dead before it even launched.

I wouldn't be too comfortable, and attacking the people you should be courting to buy your game.

I don't think "haters" is "your own audience" and this is why the misquote is important. "Haters" was changed to "gamers" for added effect and tribalism.

Movie and TV does the same thing.

These devs need an nda to not talk about work stuff. You gotta roll with the punches. Being angry means the antiwoke mob you hate so much won. Look at Rian Johnson for reference. Dude just destroyed star wars and went, yeah Im making bank on these Knives Out movies now. Suck it.

I've never deliberately wanted a game to fail until concord. It's nothing to do with the game itself but these wanker developers. The fact that Sony acquired this studio is very concerning about their future direction. This is the total opposite of the sony from the past.

I'm surprised this kind of amateurish thing is allowed by PlayStation. Insulting your customers. Whilst telling everyone how wonderful you are. Yeah not a great stance. PlayStation need to look at their media comms on this one. I'm surprised anything any of their studio employees say, whilst representing the company. Isnt filtered first. I'm also surprised they don't have a dedicated team handling all media related comms. To ensure stuff like this doesnt happen. Very unprofessional.

Initially I was sympathetic with this game (even though it should have been f2p and the art style is atrocious, the graphics are good and the gameplay is solid), but now I can't wait for Sony to shut it down and realize that devs like those are useless.

This dev isn't at PS for them to control their comms on anything. They're at PUBG/Krafton. You can't control what people say on social media even if they still were at PS unless you turn into some dictatorship.

It's basic PR policy that staff are responsible for work-related things published on social media. And yes, antagonizing customers is a valid reason to fire someone in any industry.

I'm a talentless freak but at least I will have a job in 3 months

It took 8 years to make that? It would take either a bunch of talentless freaks or con artists to pull that off. Could be both. Yeah, Sony is going to want answers.

The problem here is that he calls over 99% of his userbase, namely Playstation gamers, talentless freaks. Because less than 1% cares about this game. Good luck with your next project.

You can also say; it seems our audience voted. And they clearly don't want a game like this, we misread what the market wants. But no, we are wrong for dumping on this shit. If the game had some solid hook i am sure gamers would at least try the free beta. This game was dismissed from the get go.

SCE needs to sever toxic studios like this. It won't get them anywhere.

I love dramas about games I have no interest in as I can enjoy the shit pile from tegardless if who made the game.

Hopefully Sony realise GaaS are like catching lighting in a jar and not something to base your future on.

For every helldivers 2 there'll be 3 - 10 Concordes. Doesn't seem to be particularly bad, it's just mid as fuck and costs too much.

Meh. Someone offered him empathy over the game and he responded like that. He is not even at the studio anymore so he isn't worried about it being shuttered. Screw his "grieving".

As I said they're at Krafton/PUBG they can't get them fired from another company. They would be hard pressed to fire them even if they were at the company still for their views, especially insulting haters of their game specifically. Those aren't the customers. There would be no reason to support that type of cancellation of somebody either. People exist everywhere on all sides trying to get people cancelled for "offending" people it seems.

So the game isn't inclusive enough for us talentless freaks? Told ya it wasn't diverse and inclusive enough. Bunch of bigots.

One rookie person on the dev team making a comment on Xitter is not "devs responding" it is one low level person raising his hand to be the first one let go in the layoffs that will be coming.

I just don't get this line of thinking, it's purely ego driven narcissistic behaviour on full show.

You make a crap game, obviously expecting 'talentless freaks' to buy it. The game fails as it is utter crap so you just call them what you always believed anyway because you're an ego driven narcissistic character in yourself.

Just get these over inflated wind bags out of the industry. They're a pox turning everything to garbage.

Bring back the talent.
