Former Concord dev responding to their game flopping: "why would I care about a bunch of talentless freaks hating on it"

This shit is getting better and better.

DICE devs after woman with prosthetics kills Nazis in WWII. If you don't like our game don't buy It.

Last Saints Row game gets a huge delay. Devs tell the Community we need more time but we won't change any of the characters.

Concord one of the biggest mp flops ever a developer calls the non buying gamers freaks.

I mean there is also for sure a lot of frustration. With these kind of numbers, it's only a matter of time until Sony pulls the blog and with all the recent studio closures, I am sure he is very concerned at the moment about his future…

Insulting your customer base after they complement you is a sure fire way to get more people to try your game /sarcasm. That clown dev should be fired. If I were his boss I'd rip him a new one for insulting our customers and then tell him to pack his desk..

I'd even consider taking a screen cap of his tweet and posting it on LinkedIn to say that it's an example of what not to do.

This dev isn't at PS for them to control their comms on anything. They're at PUBG/Krafton. You can't control what people say on social media even if they still were at PS unless you turn into some dictatorship.
Its not about control, its about business workplace expectations for me. The companies I've managed and consulted for. All have dedicated media teams. Including SME's and big blue chip across multiple different sectors. And on any product launches, and even post product launch. No-one would be handling the community who wasn't assigned/specialised in doing so. And whilst you can voice your own takes on things. This guy was speaking for and on behalf of the company (or thats what it looks like for me). In the places I've worked, you'd be getting hung drawn and quartered for insulting customers.

So, for me its an unusual/unprofessional way of doing things. But I'm not in gaming.

Edit: Apologies if I've misunderstood where the guy is working now. That makes a bit more sense....

how DID you waste the last 8 years?

Not the original poster, but my last 8 years were extremely productive. I got promoted three times, the last one being a title change to programmer that came with a significant pay raise. I became friends with an amazing woman, ended up dating her, and then we got married. We had an awesome honeymoon. We then bought a house (right before the housing market tanked). We took multiple fun trips/vacations over the years. We had a a little girl who is absolutely amazing, and she will be celebrating her first birthday soon. I'm enjoying being a dad now with my newest job change that pays more.

It would appear that I am doing better than "Freegunner M #4443 @anim_xander" as my last 8 years were productive, and "they/them" is both mentally unstable and released a shitty game that almost nobody cares about.

This is the very definition of the crying guy behind the smiling mask meme. Spending 8 years and ungodly work hours on a game that flopped historically hard on the starting line? There's no way they're not losing sleep over this.

The more I think about what that guy wrote the more retarded it seems. He called gamers "talentless hacks" , I dont even understand what one has to do with other. Do you need to be talented at game development in order to critic a game? do you need to be a fucking director to say a movie is good or bad??? do you need to be a guitar player to say the latest album of a band is boring ??? Like what are we even talking about here, since when do you need to be good at something related to entertainment in order to be able to critique it ?

These people are nuts, they live in their own reality, they dont even understand the concepts that they are talking about. Insane.

It's a really delicate balance that you have little control over. There was a time where Jim Ryan tried to reign in employees comments on unrelated/political subjects online by saying "respect differing opinions because they're a global brand" and this somehow resulted in fuming staff and bad PR online.

Of course it doesn't make any sense. There is no sensible angle from which he can make an attack. The desire to complain came before the alleged reason.

Comrade, you do not own your talent. It is our talent. We have the right to your production.

I'm just assuming they're communism

He's already gone. Working for PUBG now.
Yep, but this shit is unprofessional as hell no matter where they/them/dumbass works.

If I was a product manager for this person's team and I saw this sort of shit being spewed by one of my employees; there would be a conversation about proper use of social media.

And if it continued, they/them wouldn't have a job.

This is why I hate the cultish protection of "the vision" with hyperarmor on any kind of criticism towards a game especially when it's severely underperforming. You can only blame haters for so much. You don't get that kind of CCUs without making some serious mistakes and it's in your own best interest to at least keep the damn door open to opinions on what that might be because changes are coming.

Yep. Shit like this can still come back to haunt him. He is just too stupid to realize it.

Which is why my only social media use is LinkedIn, lol. And even there only carefully worded comments or thoughts on variety of technical matters related to my career path. 😅

You really don't want to go for a nice gig down the road and somebody digging up crap you posted on social media.

I decided years ago never to have a facebook account, as I'd no doubt have posted pics with my cock out after one too many tequilas... and then we'd have the browse of shame and awkward interview questions. lol

Yep. Shit that makes sense at 3am after some drinking, doesn't belong on social media. 😂😅

Which is what I have been trying to get into my kids' heads with some good examples of dumb shit people do.

So basically you're censoring yourself because you have no backbone? Say it how it is man.

I should try the game. Maybe when it's like 10 bucks or something. I've played some absolute stinkers in my time and I just wanna see how bad this is...or, honestly maybe if the game just was never given a chance because of what's already available (like Overwatch)
.

The garbage music I used to make sold more units than this game has on Steam. Bunch of talentless freaks.

Yes, of course, because some of us want to have professional careers? That has nothing to do with backbone, but with common sense. And all normal folks with a modicum of thought do that.

I might think my SVP is an ass, has no good strategic thoughts and is only there because of nepotism, but I would never say that.

Edit: Also, note that now days there are services that will scan social media on job applicants. Basically that normally happens once the resume gets past the first level of AI review bullshit, and either before recruiters take a look or during that review.

There is a cost so it's not going to be done immediately, but it's very likely to be done before the first phone screen.

So if you have anything posted that's questionable, preferably delete that shit before you start submitting resumes. Especially so if you are getting your resume into hiring manager's hands through networking because otherwise it will be a bit awkward.

You can have a professional career without compromising yourself but you do you. Good luck.

Nah, fuck that bozo fr... Dumbass can't read the fucking room for shit, should've kept quiet, their game is about to bomb even harder now.

lol, good luck if you want to work for a large corporation.

Also, what compromise are you talking about even? If anything not wasting time on social media is a huge boon!

I am even kind of glad Musk bought X and turned it into a shit show so I don't spend time doomscrolling.
