Except SHf isnt taking any risks. It just doubles down on what people never liked about SH games, the melee combat, and makes it worse. The location is hardly a "risk".
 
Surprisingly I'm gonna say Good!
Silent Hill F shines when it's being Silent Hill but that whole other stuff....yeah that ruin the game unfortunately.
I still love the way the game looks though.

And more I think about it the more it makes sense to me, the otherword in Silent Hill F should of been Silent Hill.
Why they didn't do that is beyond me.

I personally really like SHf even more than Cronos but I don't mind seeing every SH being different from each other.

But people want similar experiences as SH 1-3 never going to get that since most of original creators of those games are long gone from Konami.
 
But what if I wanted more dumbed down Dark Souls in my SH?

Hell, make the next SH set in a fictional Victorian city with Lovecraftian shit and a saw blade and better combat and I am in. I don't care if its basically about marriage or some shit.

Okay I am going to level with you all.

I just want Bloodborne 2.

I am not picky on the how anymore. I don't care if the name of the game is misleading.

Half of the complaints about the game are that it doesn't take place in Silent Hill and therefore it's not a Silent Hill game. So I'd call that a risk.

I didn't buy nor play this game yet, although being interested in it, but the single .gif I saw from a combat scene really took me off. I just screamed "jank" and "clunky". So what should I do ? Should I give it a go ? I do enjoy horror games, and loved Project Zero from KT to name one.
Maybe wait for a discount ?

As someone who also enjoys Project Zero, I'd gladly take the jankiest moment of the first game plus the cringiest sections from Maiden of Black Water over anything from SHf.

No worries. I'll just put everything in a spoiler:

- Overreliance on combat. There are dozens of late-game arenas where the game actually puts on-screen objective that says: "defeat all enemies" and doesn't let you to progress until you kill everything on screen.
- The actual combat is downright broken when fighting more than one enemy.
- The story is told in blunt, unsubtle and downright cringy matter. Everything is spelt out to you and the game actively tries to manipulate you how you should feel. No nuance or maturity in a game that claims to tackle mature and dark themes.
- You're expected to finish the game at least three times to see the full story.
- THIS BULLSHIT (no, this is not unlockable mode, this happens during your first playthrough):



- And personally, I didn't find it scary at all. Some of the monster design is actually Homecoming level of cheesiness, especially the monster which is just a pile of female breasts.

It's formula is also literally the exact same as the other games except for the combat (and the NG+ requirement for the ending, which is annoying).

Yeah...hearing a dev say each one will be different and an experiment isn't good news because then why call it Silent Hill? You've lost all the flavor of what makes it a SH game....oh but you need the NAME to capitalize on! I get it now.

I'm reading notes after notes about this person hating that person and wants to kill the same person a hundred times, enough already! I get the point, don't need to repeat that again and again! yeah i know this girl is jealous of that girl already, don't need to repeat a thousand times! the so called domestic violence is a nothing burger, the writer doesn't know shit about domestic violence!! Hinako doesn't look like anyone who has experienced that horror! Look at her clean clothes and clean face and have no injuries whatsoever! Bring back Heather(now she looks like an abused character)!

and then the scene where Hinako drinking and sipping a bowl of water with that piece of shit guy 3 to 5 times for 5 mins, really boring scenes! Or Hinako acting all shock and horror at almost at the end where she saw much more horrible things much earlier. the story doesn't make any sense! and that piece of shit guy? Let me destroy him! I have just finished all the dumb puzzles now(yeah i read a guide of course lol), so should be near the end? This game made RE and FF games geniuses of writings. For horror games I only play RE and FF, SH gets totally downgraded after this!

Yeah this story sounds like total J-cringe. The writer is some visual novelist so maybe the initial praise for the choice was biased by weebs and his gushing fans. Total cash grab with souls-like tacked on.
 
I've enjoyed every mainline SH in proportion to what each one brought to the table, but of course, I'm an original Trilogy purist, with Silent Hill 3 being my favorite.

This isn't news so much as reaffirmation. The classic elements that can't be broken won't: the exploration, the isolation, the mental obstacles, the Otherworld - but the transient elements will change. This is SH to a tee.

1 was the structure. 2 was the media darling. 3 was SH through a woman's perspective. 4 had the Ashfield Heights apartment and the holes. Homecoming was SH in a different place. Origins was an intentional throwback. Shatttered Memories was a retelling with a heavy focus on player initiative. Downpour had the rain elements. Every title adds a new little fold to the base gameplay.

Also, random aside, I hate SH4. I feel like the devs intentionally made the most annoying choice at every crossroads they came to. Breakable weapons? Sure. Inventory limit? Fuck yeah. Half the game is an escort mission? I'M CUMMING. Half the game is also repeating the areas from the first half? NOW WE'RE TALKING. Invincible enemies that chase you? GAME OF THE GOAT.

These people hate me.
 
Good to know as I struggle to find Silent Hill in f.
SH2 remake however was oerhaos the best SH ever so I can't wait for the SH1 remake and hopefully the SH3 remake after, from Bloober
 
We've heard the online fans loud and clear, we'll go back to rehashing Silent Hill 2 for the nth time so you can all complain how it's not as good as SH2.
 
The combat is so bad, so glad I noped out about 1/3 the way through. And there is SO much of it.

Apparently it's a lot easier on 'story' difficulty and not as annoying.

This is an action game with a japanese locale and horror themes. Also the story is stupid. Not a Silent Hill game at all.

Let's not forget that he's also one of the people responsible for the absolutely atrocious "Ascension" and "The Short Message". I don't have any desire to gulp every piece of mediocre slop he's trying to pass on as "experiment". Especially when the genre is thriving through numerous other franchises that are much more consistent in overall quality.

I love Silent Hill 4 and I remember people hating on that game. That game took a lot of risks while still feeling like a Silent Hill game. Silent Hill f doesn't feel like a Silent Hill game and it's funny how much people are handwaving the feminist themes in that game. Also Silent Hill isn't supposed to have good combat
 
I think I'm near the end of f and it's not a silent hill game. I'm very happy to hear future games will be different. At times it feels all the game is missing is an estus flask.

More like "unfortunately" to me.

Silent Hill f is the first SH game that I truly loved. All the previous ones were kinda bland and overrated.
