I think the issue is the source is a short post on a forum by a random person. If someone made a thread about "8GB GDDR5" based on a random forum post I think it would have been a similar reaction. Notice, that doesn't necessarily mean it would have been false though.

Easy -

Release one piece of information that they were able to confirm about the devkits (striped pattern) and then make people believe you're legitimate, and then feed them bull just to see their reactions. Oh, and then reply later on saying they were stupid for believing it.

Then you are not reading the thread, I addressed this. The guy likely read it somewhere and threw it into his April fools joke to sound more believable. This is much easier to swallow then the story itself.

I love how Reiko is a martyr for some of you guys. Instead of discouraging fantastical rumor mongering, you guys enable him. The sooner you guys learn to stop weighing all rumors equally, the better off you will be. Hint, assume everything is BS until is has enough evidence and reputable sources to back it. Be a skeptic, not a fool.

As to people eating crow stuff, that is nonsense. Even if this rumor ends up being true, Reiko gets no credit, he had no valid evidence to believe it, he didn't reason through it, he didn't investigate it, he didn't even read the translated OT where everyone was laughing about April Fools. If a crazy guy yells about alien invasions for years and then an invasion happens, he is no less crazy.

Dude you are over analyzing the situation, these are fun times we are in! 8 GB GDDR5 ram, Dual APUs, PS4 VS Durango, Wii U comedy of errors. These things happen only once ever five years or so...so stop hating and join the party.

I think 2.4 TFlops would be exciting (as I was hoping that Orbis and Durango both ended up around ~2.5 purely because I like it comparatively to the old number) but dual-APU is crazytown.

Dual vanilla A10's in an early devkit that matches precisely the rumoured specs of a single Durango APU

OR

Dual Durango APU's that probably hasn't been produced yet and thus doubling all specs that have been confirmed earlier by leaks and anonymous dev's.

I believe it's there & I believe that the 2nd APU is the Xbox360 CPU & GPU.


Something that doesn't have to be in the Dev documents.

I was referring to checklists comparisons...both will blu-rays, both will have online, one will have full bc and other none at all. So potential buyers might see Durango as the more feature complete console

first year of a consoles existance is pretty boring so BC makes the transition that much easier. it's also friendlier to smaller developers who cant afford to transition right away, they can migrate over.

There's no way there are two identical APUs in Durango, if anything the second "APU" is probably additional chips for the OS and Kinect to run on. Another possibliity, if this is remotely true, is the 360 SoC as the second APU for BC.

I really hope people aren't getting their hopes up for this.

yeah, this was a giant 50+ (I think) page pdf that had a roadmap of Microsoft's plans. It always seemed to make sense to me. I'm surprised it doesn't get brought up more often.

Because I think a lot of folks who are rubbishing this are thinking in terms of Durango x2 rather than Durango + ARM or 360 BC.

Digital delivery creates a backlog that you can't trade in or sell. You are stuck with it. So it would be extra nice to be able to carry that backlog forward with you into the new generation. Especially because the great games are few and far between for the first year or two of a new generation.

So yeah, BC is really, really nice. It's fucking great.

And to those who say LOL keep your old system, people have limited shelf space in their entertainment systems. Not everybody has a giant nerdcave with shelves and shelves of old consoles and video switchers.

Also gives me money to buy the new system sooner when I sell or trade in my old one. I would love to still have access to my digital stuff with one machine.

We didn't know about the ARM chip for the PS4, right? Maybe there is a philosophy that warrants a second APU that encompasses other functionality as mentioned above. Whether that be BC or Kinect/OS. I don't know about how that would change costs and architecture but it might be worth it if it keeps people in the ecosystem.
