Forza 4 |OT| Where Porsche Are Driven

Is anyone else getting disc read errors despite installing the game?

The game boots and I can navigate menus and select events but between the track and "environment" loading screens I've been getting errors all night. Career, multi, it happens at the same spot in the race loading process every time.

My disc is spotless.

For me, weather, night or dirt in a game like Forza means variety more than anything else. It gets tiresome racing in the same conditions over and over no matter how good the game is.
Sure, it's hard and not always 'fun' to drive in those said conditions, but it does take you away from the monotony of clear skies and dryz-a-bone surfaces, and sometimes, that's a place I would like to be...

Just for you, FM5 will be night and dirt.

No Bathurst.

Then see how you like it.

lol, unfortunately, we've been living without Bathurst for quite some time now, so the prospect of night/dirt over Mount Panorama would be met warmly...

night/rain etc is just icing on a cake. and it's not like they have perfected beyond improvement the meat of the game and now all that remains is ..night racing :)
I just prefer the best possible cake, instead of a medium one with icing on top.

night racing was there in forza 1, and it was those races I played the least.
and since forza 1 had full online capabilities, it wouldnt surprize me to learn that by monitoring what was played, they concluded that in reality its no big deal.
I sure know how it was for me and my peeps, and while I still miss some tracks from forza1, I sure dont miss night racing.

most probably it will be included again in the next installment, just in order to be able to tick some boxes. I just hope it doesnt take resources away from more important aspects of the game.

Night racing isn't taxing at all, they just need to take the time to adjust IBL for it. I'm sure they could do it as DLC if they really cared about it.

Yeah, adding individual moving light sources for every car on the track that should cast shadows isn't taxing at all. *roll eyes*

Fujumi Kaido in the night is far less taxing than the day one when you can reduce the viewing distance and darken other parts of the track. That will easily make up for the lights of the cars.
You can test this with PC (racing) games, most run better at night.

FK doesn't have any lights in the environment compared to "normal" racetracks like Sebring, Le Mans, etc...
Imagine Sunset Peninsula oval from FM1 but with accurate shadows for 16+ cars, I think I would be as amazed as when I first saw the track in FM1.

As G Rom said, FK is one of the few that can work like that. I've been in to pc gaming long enough to know how significant the effects on performance are when adding/decreasing lighting and/or shadows.

That's why I specifically chose FK as example ;-)
Tracks without many lighting poles like FK and the Ring in night would be awesome as DLC no?

I would rather get a revamped Nordschleife before getting it at night. Being stuck with this beyond terrible version (especially after playing GT5's Ring) is perhaps my biggest disappointment about FM4 with no Spaurst as a close second and Le Mans looking terrible as a third.
I still don't get why Le Mans, Sebring, Road Atlanta and the Nordschleife (since the 24h layout isn't in...) didn't get alternate times of day though. Those tracks would have made much more sense IMO than the one we got. Overcast on more tracks and not just the TGTT would have been nice too.

Weather/night has nothing to do with loving cars but a lot to do with motorsport.

In the end I can clearly see it's a design choice as the game is locked at 60 fps and weather/night would have changed that.

Would rather see things that would not affect performance that could be in the game. Rally with various road surfaces for one. Each event having practice then qualify then race day. each but the last being skippable for casuals but lucrative for those that do them. Real autocross at the benchmark park lot. True 1:1 steering dammit lol.

I would love to have weather and night for variety but only having it on certain tracks is kind of a downer for me. I expect to see it fully implemented next gen but for now I'd hate to see some track DLC that is the same track we have only night.

I'm not against either of course, but I'd love to see it implemented realistically where you aren't sure about weather conditions when a track comes up until it tells you. Would be awesome for seasons like during the summer you get mostly sunny and a scattering of night races, then come fall and later in the year there is spots or rain. Being able to choose tires for rainy conditions or wet conditions and such.

I wouldn't be against only 1 or 2 tracks having night of course, I just don't think it can be implemented well into the career.

Man, I'm barely level 28 right now and talking about the next one ... gotta get my head back in the game!

You need to dream even bigger. Have the game connect to the weather channel and grab real time weather conditions for the tracks you race on. Combine that with a mode (that you can remove) a la MSR where you're racing in real local time... :)
Fuck, Turn 10 could then post special events online taking place during real races like ALMS races, 24h of Le Mans, 12h of Sebring, Bathurst 1000, etc... and you'd essentially be runing with the exact same conditions as the real race during the whole thing. All those races would then be replayable with the same conditions after the live event.

As always, one can dream... :-D

Jube, anyone:

What is the time-availability policy of the Season Pass?

If I purchase it later than November 1st, will I able to download the #1 DLC pack in the retro-active fashion or is it valid 6-months in advance after purchasing?

Thanx in adv.

I'm with you there, but I can say that I love everything in this pack. And if it is to be released on November 1st, that means all the future monthly packs will probably be the 1st Tuesday of each month from here on.

I'm guessing the Scirocco R will be the freebie.

Wait, there are people excited by the new Focus ? It's so ugly compared to the previous gens (first one, EU version remains the best looking IMO).

Anyway, pretty awesome pack. We knew some of those cars were coming (RS3, Aventador, Focus, Virage) but some are nice surprises like the 458, the R15 and the Charger.
BTW, you can already somewhat make yourself a Scirroco R in the game. The GT version has the OEM kits available.

Aventador, 458 GT, and R15++ are all win. I'm eagerly anticipating the Huayra once it's released from the shackles of EA captivity.

I'll probably pick up a Season Pass before this pack comes out. Don't want to miss anything.

I am still trying to be optimistic about the same thing happening for Porsche. Maybe if the The Run comes out and fails hard enough, EA will need to recoup some of those losses.

Hey, we can hope, right?

But this is a really nice pack. I am stoked for the Lambo, the RS3, the 458GT (which would look amazing in flat black WHICH WE CAN'T HAVE) and the Typhoon.

I've just noticed that some cars have the number plate holder modelled (e.g. Chevy Spark), but you can't actually put a number plate on it as you can't paint on it..

It's these little things that just unnecessarily seem to niggle me these days.. I'd love to think that T10 would step up on the patching front for some of these small things (mirrors the wrong way, and all that jazz), but I doubt they will..

Other then that, have been doing the crap out of 1 rival event (For a TT some site is doing), and damn, if the new physics/audio aren't really growing on me..

The sound of the Aventador shall be glorious !
Just thinking about it brings a smile on my face. :)

Speaking of which, sound is something that is easily forgotten in the next gen dreams. I hope the additionnal disc space and horsepower will allow for less compressed sounds. There's no doubt that we're loosing lots of details this gen.

It obviously doesn't prove anything, but it definitely seems like Turn10 is still using these polls as a blueprint for future DLC. There are still quite a few on these lists that I really want, so let's hope they keep it up. I really want some old school Japanese "muscle" like the old Corolla, and RX3 and the Kenmari GT-R.

BADNED already said on FC that Turn 10 indeed used Forzalopnik to see where the interest was regarding classics.
I think my most wanted from the list are the 205 T16 followed by the Clio Williams.
The 1970 Corolla has already been confirmed for a futur DLC BTW. ;)

That's a DAMN SOLID list of cars right there. Trailer needed more TYPHOON.

I think the Hot Holidays one was the most jam packed in terms of awesome (which is coincidentally the only one I bought), but this is good too.

Is there a list of rumoured/hinted at DLC cars that I'm unaware of?

Really? Where? I know there were more on the TofuR leak (like the escort 1600 and the older Celica GT-Four) but I don't think that's still viable is it?

Because night racing is real. Weather is real. Do yourself a favor one day and tag along to someone's track day. You will quickly realize that there is way more to racing/high performance driving than what Forza 4 presents to players.

Forza is like some sterilized car porn version of what people actually have to do to go drive on a track. It's marketed as a game for people who love cars, but, in fact, it's a game that presents a stylized, imaginary version of the real thing.

I think one of the things amazing about games is when they can structure things in such a way that players learn something in real life. Forza 4 is a very good game. But it's full of wasted potential and doesn't try to educate the player in any way. When Turn 10 opts to omit things like night racing or weather in the name of 60 fps, that's certainly a design choice ... but it isn't the choice of someone who loves cars.

Sorry, but this doesn't make any sense. Weather and night racing has nothing to with loving cars. A person who loves cars should be drooling over Autovista, the ability to tune their cars, take photos of their car, paint and customize their cars. Rain and weather are aspects of racing. Racing is just part of car passion, not the whole.

And to be perfectly honest, when it comes to racing, I prefer a solid 60fps.

BADNED added it to the car list over at FC (down at the moment) a while ago. The Gran Torino was also confirmed by him.
The Veloster is also supposed to end up in the game at some point, it was spotted in an ad or something IIRC.

I rather have night than weather, and I would take more tracks over either. But 60fps is silky smooth and it makes a big difference. I just wished I could feel the bumps on the road like I see on my drivers animation, they could have done a better job with rumble

Just kidding. Nothing against pad users, but they should be left off the leaderboards and should only be able to drive short buses.

I'll stop driving with a pad if you buy me a Fanatec :)

Yeah. Very surprised that a track like Sebring (the entire section at the start line), was left the way it was from FM3.. Nurburgring GP is still the only track with variations that you can feel.

Yeah, I noticed that when I was trying to get a car list for Forza 4. I swear, they always have some problems with their webhosts. I feel bad for them because BADNED does a lot to help and seems to get absolutely nothing in return.

Rumble was perfect in FM3, don't know why they changed it for worse. You can come close to FM3 by playing with a wired controller though.

Honestly it almost feels like a bug to me. For example I remember hitting jumps in Postiano in FM3 and you could feel your car catch air and land but I didn't notice that I got air on Alps until I watched the replay. WTH?
